Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I am really beginning to enjoy this jersey order process. I've gotten some pretty cool notes from some of the people that want jerseys and just today one of the people JohnsonsJerseys spoke to in Denver wants to get multiple jerseys with her dad's name and number...he played for the Huskies under Al Renfrew in the 1950s and was on the first team to ever make the NCAA tournament.

We have such a wonderful community. I really can't wait to meet people at the NCAA regionals that have their own stories to tell.

Speaking of regionals...who is going? Which regionals can you make it to, and which will you have to pass on?

For me, I'll be going regardless of location, and I believe Shirtless Guy is on board with that too.

Does anyone know if the school will be putting together student fan busses or anything like that?

I'm on the no matter what train. Although Fargo is my least likely drive. Half tempted to look at flights to Providence. South Bend would be awesome. 2 hour drive and no time off work. :)

there is no end to this amazing season!! Tyler Heinonen was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week and Tanner Kero is the WCHA regular season scoring champ!!

I know MSP, the flights to Providence suck. No non-stops (so there are terrible connections and long travel times) and they are significantly more expensive than Boston.

You might have better luck from DTW...I'm thinking there will be a direct from Detroit on Delta, but I can't remember if the connections from MSP were via DTW or not.

oh great. who would have ever thought we would be juggling travel schedules to get to NCAA regionals? seriously. I have tickets and hotels and airlines for the Frozen Five but never gave the NCAAs a thought. we are in the air to Tucson while the selection show is going on. literally. can we change those tickets for a week later? sure, for $450. per ticket. thanks United. I guess we go ahead and fly back and find out where Tech is going, then try to get there by Friday. or skip the regionals and hope for Boston? ah! what a great problem to have!

Would it be cheaper to NOT fly back, and just buy tickets to the next destination or something? I read some story about that a couple weeks back.

we don't know what to do, but its a great problem to have. will wait until we know where we are going. hope its South Bend because we will have a lot more fans there.

The fact that Houghton County only has 2 flights per day and only to Chicago (United) further complicates matters. Best of luck!

I don't think any of that have said we're going no matter what are actually I. Houghton anymore...keep up.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I'll be there except for Fargo which is pretty iffy.. I also have some info on hotels in Boston if we get to the point we need it. My recommendation on flights out of Houghton is to go to Marquette and fly from there, unless you just particularly want to go out of cmx and get miles for it., or use your miles to go.

Boston has many more flights and thus many more options as to times of the day vs both Manchester and Providence. There is public transportation from Boston logan to both Manchester and Providence. South Bend has limited hotel space. You can fly if you like there as well.

I'm very happy for the coach, the players, and for so many people from Houghton who have suffered for so many years. It's really great to see the Huskies so competitive.

It looked to me like Manchester was more spread out, so that we'd probably want a car there, whereas we'd get by without one in Providence. The 2 closest hotels in Manchester were sold out when I booked several weeks ago, so we couldn't get one within walking distance.

As for Boston, my wife and I are going regardless, we have planned on it for several months, much before it looked possible for Tech to be there. We're staying in the Fairfield Inn in Cambridge, just a short distance up Monsignor O'Brien Highway from downtown, and right on the T line.

Good plan.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Based on what I've heard we may be better off taking ground transport or public transportation to Manchester and then getting a car to avoid the crazy taxes on rentals in Boston...

That sounds like it may be an even better plan.

Here's a Tuesday treat for you, especially if you've never heard the voice of John MacInnes before. This is a link to a sports story from WLUC-TV in Marquette from the spring of 1981, featuring an interview with the legendary coach talking about the school moving from the WCHA to the CCHA. The goals included in the b-roll are scored by (in order) Bill Terry, Al Mickalich, Tim Watters, and Rick Boehm.

We're up to 18+5 for the Gold jersey order, just a few more guys!

Oh... the wife talked to HN. He's in for a gold. Will Kero be a valid option seeing as the order shouldn't arrive until after the season is over?

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

If I'm reading what I'm seeing correctly, we're guaranteed in. Even 2 losses to UAH won't drop Tech out of the top 12. Plan for your regionals, techies!

Can we then turn 16-1 the other way? Wait, I don't think that we could go 16-1 in two games on an empty net some nights.
