Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

we couldn't have asked for a better season, trophy or not. and truly, the fact we couldn't beat MSU, says a lot about their team. we still have the best record in the nation and are in a good position heading into the tournament and the NCAAs. the NCAAs!!! wow! wouldn't one last match up for the Broadmoor between MTU and MSU be great?

How but 2 more matchups? One for the Broadmoor and one for that pesky little national championship.

WCHA.TV failed on me in the third period.
So was Johnstone's hit worth a DQ?

Happened pretty much right in front of me. 5 and a game for sure. I thought the DQ was harsh, but considering the 2 previous melees that occurred, I could see the reasoning.....certainly don't agree with the DQ because of losing control of the game. But it was absolutely a reckless play by David.

Have fun destroying us. I hate playing in Houghton.

Geof, where's your sense of adventure? ;)
Coach gonna put that 16-1 back up on the cork board?

It was a reckless play by David, but I was surprised by the DQ also. Or put another way, if David deserved a DQ then maybe Siemer deserved one as well for his hit a little later.

The difference between the two was partly the location on the rink. Siemer's hit was along the boards, Johnstone's was almost directly into the stanchion at the edge of the glass by the bench. That had the potential for an even more catastrophic injury.

I for one was very surprised that Diamantoni got up as quickly as he did and came right back out for his next shift. That's a tough kid.

Point taken . . . and Diamantoni is tough.

Technically, the regular season isn't over, yet. The garbage that is the B1G still has one week to go. *sigh*
Yes, but none of them even have 20 wins, so Tech will finish with the most regular season wins in D-I hockey.
So, UAH makes a return trip to Houghton next weekend.
Their coach made a big deal out of the score from the last series with writing "16-1" on their board every day after that series. UAH may not have the talent to match up with Tech, but they are going to have ever bit the motivation (if not more) to prove their place in the WCHA and the national D-I college picture for that matter.
...was Johnstone's hit worth a DQ?
I could see that call being 5 and a MISCONDUCT, but not a DQ. I've seen far worse get called for less this season. I think part of it was the out of control nature of the game and the officially really cracked down in the 3rd period. ANY contact was going to get you time in the box.

I think if you watch it back, you'll see the DQ was justified. And technically, he didn't get any time in the box himself since the DQ sent him straight to the locker room. ;)

Just saw a tweet saying that Tech will be playing in the Mariucci Classic next year...not sure how reliable the source is.

I saw that too, looks like the UConn beat writer. Minn., Ferris, Tech and UConn.

If true, based on schedule I'd guess it's GLI and then this the following weekend. Isn't the Mariucci Classic a tourney that is two planned games? Not winners player winners and losers play losers? So hopefully it's setup to se don't play Ferris.

No, it's a tournament format. It's just that the host school gets to play the prime time PM spot. Always. Something that always troubles me with the GLI, but that's for another time...

Although, I think one year they did switch things up because Bemidji was one of the invitees and that was set before the WCHA added them.

Last time NMU was in it, it was set up Winner vs Winner. That was how NMU was able to play Minnesota for both the tourney trophy AND the Death Cup.
