Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Monday morning and I'm already pretty much over not getting the MacNaughton this season. A) At the start of the season I would have been happy for home ice. B) The team is still playing and can still achieve goals equal to or greater than the Cup. C) Our record against Mankato this season. Sure 2-3 years from now no one would remember who beat who, but for now it is easier to get over it when we didn't beat them in four chances, but I felt like we could have in any of those games. I guess the next time we face them it will be Houghton's miracle on ice... So if we meet them in St Paul, here's your bulletin board material:

Great moments... are born from great opportunity.
And that's what you have here, tonight, boys.
That's what you've earned here tonight. One game.
If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine.
But not this game. Not tonight.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Just saw a tweet saying that Tech will be playing in the Mariucci Classic next year...not sure how reliable the source is.

If it helps, I have seen a few sources on it.

Sounds like they are still in talks but tentatively yes, depends on the GLI dates to make sure there is enough separation. I'm hoping that MTU will host Wisconsin in 2015-16 and not have their NC be @Mariucci Classic, @Mich, @MSU, GLI...

Mel was very non-committal on the Mel Pearson Show. He did mention that there are discussions about it, but to me, he made it seem like more of a longshot than it is likely. If the Mariucci Classic means not having a home non-con series, then I am against going to the Mariucci Classic. Even if it is against lesser competition, I'd like to see at least 1 home non-conference series. Preferably more.

he also made it sounds like they have 2 open games to fill so it sounds like one of @Mich, @MSU, vs Wisc won't be next year...unless there is some kind of adjustment to the conference schedule rotation...

Like I mentioned last night when we were chatting, I think it would be best to push the @UMi series back to 16-17, so we don't pile up too many road non-conference series. Hopefully Michigan is able to make that work with their schedule. If Wisconsin at home can replace those games (not that excited about playing Wisconsin at "home" in Green Bay), that would be preferable. I can't imagine Wisconsin will be as bad next year as they are this year, they can't possibly be, right? If they are, I want nothing to do with them, period. We don't need more weak opponents without a chance at QWB. We have too much of that in conference to deal with.

We're going to be a little Big Ten heavy next year it appears...unless something else comes up...I would certainly hope that @Mich or @MSU gets pushed back but I'm pretty sure we have 2 @MSU series left on that contract plus we play @LSSU in NC in 2016-17 so if @Mich gets pushed to that year we'll have 6 NC road games...

What are the 6 for 16-17? You mention @LSSU and @UMi, are you including the GLI in there as a road series too?

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

MTU remains 4th this week in the USCHO Poll but they did garner a single first place vote.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Pretty spineless voting by the pollsters this week. Only three teams in the top 20 swept this weekend (MTU, BGSU, Harvard) and the only one to move up was Harvard (one place). The top 15 was identical to last week. Miami splits with the #1 team in the nation (no movement), Mankato loses to unranked BSU (no movement), UMD loses to unranked Western (no movement), DU loses to unranked SCSU (no movement), Minnesota loses to unranked Ohio St (no movement)...

The only other team in the top 20 (that played) not to take a loss this weekend was Omaha and they came away with a tie and a one goal win + ENG vs CC who is gosh awful this year. I could go on, but what's point. All they did was photocopy last week's ballots.

Who cares about the rankings/polls? those are meaningless. All that matters is the Pairwise.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

If I'm reading what I'm seeing correctly, we're guaranteed in. Even 2 losses to UAH won't drop Tech out of the top 12. Plan for your regionals, techies!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Speaking of regionals...who is going? Which regionals can you make it to, and which will you have to pass on?

For me, I'll be going regardless of location, and I believe Shirtless Guy is on board with that too.

Does anyone know if the school will be putting together student fan busses or anything like that?

Me, my brother and Yager are in no matter where as well.

Have you considered how you're going to get east, if needed? It looks like we'll be flying to Boston from MSP. If we're going to Providence, we'll take commuter rail into Providence, and if its Manchester, we'll get a rental car.

Fargo and South Bend will be drives.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I will be attending our regional. Any other year I would have planned to make my end of season trip the home playoff games (which never arrived), but this year since we've set our goals higher, my travel schedule has higher goals as well.

Brother and I will be flying into Boston from Chicago, not sure on Yager. Probably flying from Iowa somewhere. Probably renting a car both cities.
