Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I suspected there would be some whining about increased prices from the oldsters, these people need to be shown a list of ticket prices at other WCHA arenas. Welcome to the 21st century - inflation is not the school's fault.

Every year I get together with some guys out East and watch a BU game (watching DU at BU next weekend as well). Out there you drop $25 to park your car and another $22 to park your butt in a seat... and you still don't have any nachos.

There is an easy way around the $5 parking - get to the game more than an hour in advance and watch warm-up. Parking = free. Just curious, do season ticket holders get free parking, or just access to the front lot and they still have to pay? If they don't currently get free or discounted parking, might be a good way to boost season ticket sales.

I love it when people go to a sporting event. Pay an extra 5 dollars, and act like the raised ticket prices caused them to take out a second mortgage

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Missed the entire game and can't find any recap.

Who dressed tonight? Who played?

I did find an abbreviatted play by play on the THG. Thanks for that any way!

Post game highlights will always be posted up on our YouTube page. http://www.youtube.com/user/TechHockeyGuide
Our recap is live on www.techhockeyguide.com. I didn't get everything up right away because I had to travel back to Duluth due to some unforeseen events.

I always park in my government subsidized parking spot in front of the Forest Service's building.

Also, I talked to the Huskies Live people. They are procuring new cameras right now at Mel's request, hopefully that'll improve the quality.

Tech hockey not worth it

To the editor:

In regards to the "new era of MTU hockey," I was disappointed with the game that took place on Saturday.

It was fast paced. It was exciting. But it wasn't like a traditional Tech game that I have been accustomed to watching throughout the years.

To begin, to even get into a parking lot, I was charged $5. "Okay," I thought, "As long as ticket prices aren't any higher." Expecting to get the typical $6 or $8 ticket, I was stamped with the outrageous price of $12. My total for a simple exhibition game was now at $17, and I haven't even stepped inside the mezzanine of the (MacInnes) Ice Arena.

As a child, the only reason I was allowed to go Friday and Saturday night Tech games was because of the price. It was relatively cheap for me to go, as long as I did not snack, and the adult prices were not bad either, allowing for at least my dad to attend the games with me, if not the whole family.

Saturday, after paying $17 to walk from the parking lot to the door of "the Mac," I was able to find a seat higher up and get prepared for the game. Things were beginning to seem normal until MTU scored their first goal. Expecting to hear only the "World Famous" Michigan Tech Pep Band, I was caught by surprise when a "Goal Song" was played to try to mask the Pep Band. It turned into a lot of white noise and frustrated me to the point of not even cheering it was so annoying.

To wrap up, I feel bad for the families who have kids that are enthused with MTU hockey. Yes, they are great games to watch, but the price to pay and the drowning out of Tech's unique qualities just doesn't make it worth it to me anymore.

$5 might be a second mortgage on a yooper trailer home. ;)

Anyone have a good iPhone or Andriod App for listening to the 93.5 broadcast? I'll be in Madison for the Northern game, but I still want to listen to the important game :)

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Hey, I'm seriously considering dropping the $40 to watch the games on "Huskies Live." I've heard varying reviews of the quality. Any recommendations?

I've been to several of the WCHA arenas and Tech by far is one of the best values out there. Pretty much everywhere else you have to pay a lot more for a ticket, and concessions are really expensive! I know that the Mac is not the best arena out there, but truth be told, pretty much every seat in the arena is great. I love to go back as often as I can!

Still working out technical issues. Last's night's feed decided to impersonate a Gopher fan and didn't show up until halfway through the first period. I'd avoid.

I usually just open it in the browser on iOS and it works fine.

Cool, I didn't have the iPhone last year for a work phone, had a windows mobile one that had an app I could use. Android doesn't like it...

I agree it's a good value. My question to you is you say the Mac not the best arena, so what would make it better?

(besides the level of hockey the last few years)

I've been to several arenas as well and for an old barn I think it is pretty **** good, especially with the last renovation.

It's good given the size. Obviously wraparound seats would be better. I did like the addition of the suites (and had the pleasure to enjoy the Gophers series with the GopherPuckLive crew in the big one the first year they were available :D).

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Among arenas with a capacity of less than 5,000, I doubt I'd want to watch a game anywhere else. Thanks to 70s building codes and the resulting steepness of the seating areas, the sightlines and feeling of proximity to the action are fantastic.

The funny thing about building codes and assembly areas, you can still build them as steep as you want according to IBC2010.

leather seats, marble floors, a video scoreboard, alcohol for sale...

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

The thing that would put the mac up there would be some kind of video screen. Not only that, but you can't just put crap up there. They need a good video production group to add the "wow" factor to whatever they put up there. But overall, it is a GREAT place to watch a game. Now we just need to get a few more wins, because that place really rocks when it's full and everyone is into it.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Nice win tonight, team showed strengths that weren't there in the first period last night. Also got kind of chippy when Robinson was getting run over, that can help us and hurt us and the same time. We'll see how everything looks against a real opponent next weekend with Wisconsin.
