Anyone else concerned about Gordic not playing for weeks? What's his injury?

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I also watch some games on the streaming site. It is pretty bad.....very hard to tell where the puck is. HuskiesLive sets its streaming resolution over the internet low for some reason. They are not the only school using the XOS/Neulion product suite for hockey. Several other schools, including WMU use it and appear to stream to their paying customers at higher resolution. The whole point of the XOS technology is that it encodes very efficiently to stream higher resolution with low bandwith. I don't think it would cost more to upgrade the chunky video, at least not on the vendor side. Nick Laurila would probably be the person to contact about it, as he set it up.

It has got to be a bandwidth thing. I'm almost positive they use the same feed in the boxes right? That isn't the crappy resolution.

I'm suspicious of the bandwidth claim. that would only affect the speed not the resolution, correct. On my computer screen I cannot read the numbers on the jerseys at all in the full screen mode, only in the small screen. I think it has to do with the resolution they are sending out. I was assured it would be better this year and I'm sure money was spent on equipment but in reality it's exactly the same ****.It totally ****es me off.

with modern software, the resolution adjusts itself to the available bandwidth so that the image doesn't freeze up completely. That's why if you watch baseball on mlb.com, the picture pixellates terribly when they're playing the yankees.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

My policy is to watch TV on TV, not on the internet. I don't think I've ever had a good video when trying to watch anything on the internet, except maybe youtube. I didn't buy a 50" HD TV to sit and watch a choppy, blurry game on my laptop. If I want to watch hockey I'll find a game on TV, instead of suffer through trying to watch the specific game I'm interested in on the computer. The radio broadcasts on the internet work much better.

Flashy Man thinks somewhere between the camera and the internet feed the signal goes to analog which would cause a ton of problems. I know he's looking into it.

Let me know when you get done with your indentured servitude and can have a life again, as much as this team ****es me off, I do want to try to get up to Houghton to watch some games at some point.

No. Time to put on my Network Engineer hat. ;) Speed (latency) and bandwidth are completely different. Speed is affected by the devices along the path the traffic is taking plus the length of the path. Bandwidth is how big the pipe is. You can have all the bandwidth in the world but if you're going around the world through a bunch of slow boxes. It will still be slow. If you are trying to conserve the bandwidth you would send a smaller resolution (which means smaller packets). I am blaming bandwidth or just not paying for a service that allows them to send at a higher resolution (again more bandwidth). The resolution issue is just a symptom, I'm guessing bandwidth or cost is the actual cause.

Edit after seeing SG post... That could also screw it up...

Well hopefully not too much longer. 5:45am alarm clocks and 9pm dinners get old very fast. Definitely don't want to be up here in November but who knows what the weather is going to do.

Mel's postgame interview:
Genoe probably would like to have a couple of the first ones back
We battled hard, a goal can deflate you and we got on our heels
Fought back hard all night, very proud of the guys
Told guys after 2 - relax, gripping the stick too tight
Battled hard down low, got some dirty goals
Big goal towards the end of the 2nd, so we were down 2
Furne played with Olson and Baker in 3rd
Upperclassmen lead the way
Work in progress, but like a lot of things about our team
Robinson will be in goal tomorrow
Need a better start tomorrow
Would like to get some guys that sat tonight in the lineup tomorrow
Likely 3 or 4 changes for tomorrow just get all the guys involved not because of poor play

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Missed the entire game and can't find any recap.

Who dressed tonight? Who played?

I did find an abbreviatted play by play on the THG. Thanks for that any way!

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

What a bad way to start out the season after 1 period, give up 3 goals, some that should have been stopped, and there were a couple more mins of a major penalty to kill in the 2nd, but the team battled back. Yes it's AIC, but great job fighting back to get the W!

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I wonder if he showed up tonight....if not he missed a good game, first time i have been excitted at a tech game in awhile.

Tech hockey not worth it

To the editor:

In regards to the "new era of MTU hockey," I was disappointed with the game that took place on Saturday.

It was fast paced. It was exciting. But it wasn't like a traditional Tech game that I have been accustomed to watching throughout the years.

To begin, to even get into a parking lot, I was charged $5. "Okay," I thought, "As long as ticket prices aren't any higher." Expecting to get the typical $6 or $8 ticket, I was stamped with the outrageous price of $12. My total for a simple exhibition game was now at $17, and I haven't even stepped inside the mezzanine of the (MacInnes) Ice Arena.

As a child, the only reason I was allowed to go Friday and Saturday night Tech games was because of the price. It was relatively cheap for me to go, as long as I did not snack, and the adult prices were not bad either, allowing for at least my dad to attend the games with me, if not the whole family.

Saturday, after paying $17 to walk from the parking lot to the door of "the Mac," I was able to find a seat higher up and get prepared for the game. Things were beginning to seem normal until MTU scored their first goal. Expecting to hear only the "World Famous" Michigan Tech Pep Band, I was caught by surprise when a "Goal Song" was played to try to mask the Pep Band. It turned into a lot of white noise and frustrated me to the point of not even cheering it was so annoying.

To wrap up, I feel bad for the families who have kids that are enthused with MTU hockey. Yes, they are great games to watch, but the price to pay and the drowning out of Tech's unique qualities just doesn't make it worth it to me anymore.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm glad the "goal song" didn't last until the regular season. I heard nothing but terrible things about it and the resulting migraines last week.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

i do think "don't stop believing" was appropriate last night, they just timed the chorus wrong.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

So the goal song has been canned (pun not intended)?

I suspected there would be some whining about increased prices from the oldsters, though I also have to agree that there should've been a bit of a break given for the exhibition game. Still, these people need to be shown a list of ticket prices at other WCHA arenas. Welcome to the 21st century - inflation is not the school's fault.
