Michigan Tech Huskies 11 WCHA points! tied for 4th with Denver. whoa.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Pearson is right - when they want to, they can win. It's all about giving a consistent team effort.

SLU's been playing better lately, so I'm glad we got that first road win under our belts tonight. Should be a good series next weekend - time to put the pedal to the metal.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Huskeeez!. Seriously, we needed those points bad given the schedule in December.

MNS- not any particular reason other than I am sick to death of the bhhc sending out all this C*** and not even having a D*** secretary to answer the phone. I wish to heck they would shut up for a few more months. (and it has been what, over 4 months since they started, not three.)

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Nice win, well needed points, and as Mel says when they decide to play they can be a pretty good team. Hopefully at some point they decide to play all the time and not just sometimes.

Looking forward to seeing how these teams match up. No doubt we've (SLU) been playing better hockey lately, the boys are finally starting to catch on to the new systems. Sounds like we'll be without our top scorer, Flanagan, as he is out with an 'upper body injury' but haven't heard what exactly. I doubt any of you will be making the trek over as it is Turkey Weekend, but if anybody does, hope it's a safe one and that you enjoy Appletown.

I'm too lazy to do the research, but the fact that I can't remember says something:
When was the last time Tech got to Turkey day in the top half of the the WCHA standings?
I'm thankful... for the efforts of the team and staff this year.

Well, that's the first time we've reached 7 wins since 07-08, and according to Tech's schedule archives, we did it before Thanksgiving for the first time since '84-'85. We should hang a banner. :p

They may have been in the top half of the league before Thanksgiving in '92-'93 (which was the last season we hosted a first-round playoff series). They were 5-5 in conference play going into the holiday that year.

HP would you say your team is better than last years? From the looks of it, it is, but it's hard to tell just from results.

Haven't been able to see them play this year (and won't until atleast Dec 17th), so I prefer to withold judgement on that one. I might (MIGHT) be willing to say a touch better, but the departure of AC Bobby Prier and new asst coach Greg Carvel coming in did mess with some systems, causing the early season struggles. This years team doesn't really have the offensive potential that last years team did, IMO.

One at the Joe would be awfully nice!

I hope you're talking about a banner at the Joe and not A win, 2nd or 3rd is not good enough in the gli, we need to win the **** thing for once!

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

One of my alumni buddies wrote to me about a time in the mid 80's when Nahrgang was coach and he was so mad at the ref that he pulled his team off the ice for a period of time. This was when Tech (and the CCHA?) was playing an interlocking schedule with the new Hockey East. Anyone remember this going on. Apparently the hockey news had a big spread on it and an analysis on how many additional penalties the visiting teams were getting.
I remember that the old time Tech teams were much more physical than these days and that WCHA refs were a lot more lenient on physical play than the east coast refs were.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

former Husky John Young's son committed to UMD. This makes me sad, mostly because it makes me feel old.

Tough to hear about kids of former players not end up at Tech. Was the kid anything worth getting? I don't recall reading anything that we had an interest in him, or that he had any interest in considering Tech.

It's hard to make predictions based on numbers in juniors, but it seems he's on his way to being a pretty solid college center, like his father. It seems that he committed back in January though, and I'm sure the mess Tech was in at the time had a lot to do with that decision, assuming that Russell & Mikesch were even talking to him.

The interlocked schedule WCHA/HE was during the first three seasons of Hockey East (1984-88). These years were also the first three seasons of Tech's second stint in the WCHA.

Will Tech fans be able to watch the games this weekend? I have looked at the St. Lawrence website but can't find anything. Can anyone help out?
