Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm only now remembering that these games will be in AK time. I'm a month away from reaching the ripe old age of 25, this might be tough. *click*click* ;)

EDIT: Just got an email from the Alumni Assoc. about the GLI, which reminded me that the Wolverines always get the evening semifinal, so I guess I'll be there for all four games after all, since I will have to take Thursday afternoon off to watch Tech play MSU, and I already have the 30th off as a paid holiday.

Actually they don't, Michigan Tech usually got the evening semifinal, but that changed a few years ago...

Hey, Shirtless... If you still need that ride from the airport, HN said he'd be willing. Just check with him about the logistics.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Some good info in Stephen Anderson's tweets.

Nielsen did not make the trip (concussion)

Likely lines - Furne/Olson/B. Pietila
Baker/J. Johnstone/Gordic
D. Johnstone/Kero/MacLeod
Lickteig/McCadden/Rix - Reddick also on trip

D Pairs -Stebner/Davis
Cecere/Sova
Sweeney/Seigo - Heinonen also on trip

90% likely Genoe starts Friday

Recruits signing/announcment likely Tuesday - still waiting for to see if one hopeful signs

Good to see P. Heinonen making the trip. Hopefully he gets a shot to play this weekend. It would be nice to see another local getting some playing time. I thought he played real well last year and deserves a shot. Word around town is he is much stronger than last year.

Anyone know if A. Pietila made the trip? He's been playing well also. Not sure the reason for him being in and out of the line up?

Also, anyone know what's going on with Gubb? He's another one that I would have thought would be playing more???

I'm just glad they have this problem (getting guys in) rather than the more recently typical problem of "who's healthy enough to stand up on skates".

Good point

Just feel bad for the guys that don't suit up regularly (or at all in Heinonen's case).

I'm certian they are all working hard

If they aren't listed there (and Anderson has it right), they didn't make the trip. You only bring one extra D and one extra F on the road. If someone gets injured on friday night, a team will typically fly someone else out, but being that its in alaska...I don't see that happening. Also, just because the team is not going back to houghton doesn't mean these are the 22 players they have to take to Canton. The rest of the players will meet the team in Chicago next week.

Heinonen played really well last year too. I'm a bit nervous about Nielson being out. Davis has potential and is pretty quick, but he's had some turnover issues as you'd expect from a first year player.

Hopefully the new uptempo pace will benefit from a wider ice surface.

Why is the team spending so much time in Chicago? Is there some team event there or is it just an exceptionally long layover?

John Scott got them Blackhawk tickets?

its in a central location?

Mrs Pearson needed shopping time?

cheap hotels?

Michigan Tech is relocating to Chicago?

number one reason? Mel said so.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

Mrs. Pearson needed shopping time?

I forgot all the talk last spring about how Pearson's wife supposedly hated Houghton, and now I'm trying hard not to laugh at this. :D

Seriously, she was like Yoko Ono for a week after Mel declined the first offer.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I believe the arrangements for the trip were made before Mel got hired. Also it is extremely expensive to buy tickets from chicago to houghton only to leave two days later, due to there only being two flights a day and the need to connect to certain flights out so as to get into Canton at a descent hour so it might have been that rather than a total goat rope they opted to stay in chicago and fly out a few days later. There may be some side benefits as well.

I don't think it's out of the realm of reality to expect the bhhc to have hired a commish well before now. And, how do you expect anyone to listen to anything they say when they do what they are doing now. It's just bush league if you ask me.If they are going to act like a league, and send out these news releases like a league, then they need to BE a league.
