Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

So I've stewed on this for a while and here goes. The team is in Chicago right? they are leaving to go to St Lawrence, right? on the day before thanksgiving!!! on the busiest travel day of the year. They have lost their mind. Have to ever been to O'hare on the day before thanksgiving? it's a mad house of epic proportions. I guarantee that at least one team equipment bag will be lost. So now they get to buffalo, and how are they going to get the bag, wait for the next flight... 4 hours from now? Get united to deliver it to appleton ny.? Sure, maybe in a week.

why not travel on thanksgiving day, it's way lighter, way, way cheaper, and way better chance of not losing your stupid equipment. Traveling on the day before is not smart, especially if you do not have to be there that day.
only grandma's with too much money do it.Geeeesh!

End rant!
some pics on facebook regarding your concerns. The team's gear doesn't go through normal channels... maybe the team doesn't go inside either?

Rolling out some updates to Tech Hockey Guide this Thanksgiving. Just launched updated new players pages, Steven Seigo's for example, with a better way to manage them so we can roll them out to recruits and alumni soon.

It got delayed two years ago for the playoffs in Denver, so they missed a practice.

Helping to bump this thread a little further towards 1000 and *gasp* the second season thread.

Good to officially hear about the commitments.

EDIT: Also, when I dropped the gf off at MSP this afternoon, it really wasn't any more busy than normal. No idea about O'Hare, but I suspect it isn't as bad a zoo as you'd think, even today. The team should be just fine.

I remember at least twice the equipment didn't arrive with the team. once was the DU trip. Jamie was so mad ... they had packed up all the equipment the day before and hauled it out to the airport because it was an early flight. the other time ... I think ... it was only part of the stuff that didn't come through.

BENNY'S A KEEPER

Dave Ducharme windsorspitfires.com

Back in May, General Manager Warren Rychel surprised the hockey world by signing Ben Johnson to a free-agent deal with the Spitfires.

Just a few months later, and very early in his OHL career, it's easy to see what a coup it was to bring the 17-year-old Calumet, Michigan native to Windsor.

Last week, Benny produced points while playing his usual solid two-way game. For his all-around efforts, he's our Tecumseh and South Walkerville Vision Centres Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week.

Aftering scoring his first two OHL goals in an 8-0 win over the Soo Greyhounds back on November 13th, Johnson continued his torrid play with a goal and three assists in three games this weekend.

Johnson had a goal and a +1 rating on Thursday night, in a 5-4 OT loss to Plymouth, an assist and a +1 rating in a 3-1 loss in Peterborough, and another two helpers and a +1 rating in a 5-2 win in Oshawa on Sunday.

His recent tear has moved Benny into the top-20 in rookie scoring, with 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points while appearing in all 27 games this season.

Nice to see Ben hitting his stride....he's the best player to come out of Calumet since Gordie Frantti and I was starting to worry about his chances in the major juniors. I remember CHS alum Chris Cygan going to play for the Toronto Marlboros. He never seemed to attract much attention there and I thought he'd have done better to go the college route, but back then fewer college players made it to the NHL. Incidentally, Tanner Kero's dad was also an extremely good CHS hockey player.
