Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Oh, i just noticed you said this. I would strongly advise to walk wherever you go if you are staying on campus or right in downtown east lansing. Parking can be a ***** to find and they will ticket at any chance you give them. Some walks might be a bit more lengthy to anybody who doesn't prefer to go many places on foot but it really isn't that bad. If you want to go into nearby cities of Lansing or Okemos then drive or take a bus but for exploring campus/east lansing/walking to Munn, i believe walking would be best. I guess you could pay to park by the Football stadium next to Munn but walking is free.

I recommend parking in the engineering lot. You have to get a slip when you pull in, but usually after 9:00, 10:00 at the absolute latest, they stop taking money and just leave the gate up. They don't really ticket that lot until around 4:00 a.m. due to all the studious engineers who complained about getting tickets when they were studying or working late on design projects. The walk to Munn from here takes less than 5 minutes.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Alright, good show put on by the team. We are certainly much faster and much more skilled. At times we had a bit of trouble handling passes and tried to force plays too much but i was pretty encouraged by what i saw. The freshman are fantastic and I thought Petry looked pretty good as well. I believe we are going to be a team that generates our offense with quick rushes and speed rather than cycling and control in the offensive end and that is OK as long as we do it well which would be very exciting. It was good to see Nill pot one after how hard h e worked in the G&W game last night. All those years ago Comley said his team would be fast and skilled with the ability to score a lot of goals and our teams never really shook out that way but i think this is the team that will eventually be there.

Big crowd, eh?

Mr. Pirateasaurus et al -

I think we may have something here.

Guarantee one thing, I haven't actually enjoyed watching a Spartan hockey game* like I did this evening.

Some work to do? Sure, especially on the back end. But it seems this team can skate.

Add: We've got ourselves a goalie too. (or 2?)
* Since late in the 07/08 campaign

Crowd was about where I expected it to be - horrid.

And Grant is slowly becoming one of my favorite players.

Except for Merrifield, who was moving around like somebody stuck a pair of dead fish in his skates.

But aside from that, I was pretty impressed. The passing needs work, but this team looks genuinely decent.

And yes judging by this evening's doings, Leveille was sandbagging it last night.;)

Best free parking is by the ducks :D

Leveille certainly was a step quicker tonight and it was good to see. I think we've got a very exciting team here. It is certainly nice to see some speed and some nice tic tac toe passes in the offensive end. We did try to force things a little too much which led to some turnovers but it's the first game. It is certainly going to be a much more fun year to watch.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Regarding the crowd... pass the word around about the family 4 packs. 4 tickets 4 drinks 4 foods for $50 isn't bad at all.

Gee that could be as much as a $110 value. No, not bad. Will do aye aye.

I've only been recommending that they do something like that for, what, three years now, I think?

Oh well. Better late than never.

And tonight also confirmed to me how badly they dropped the ball in regard to student tickets. They should have done what Ferris did last season for their exhibition and give out free seats to students. Promote the event through e-mail two weeks in advance, lump everybody in the current student section footprint, have SAF pass out one-page cheer cards and newspaper at the student gate, and use this opportunity as a last-second drive to sell student season tickets.

Instead, you get about 30 kids who decided to shell out $5, and, given the atmosphere tonight (which consisted of myself, two others, and a few loud members of the Brass), they probably felt pretty cheated.

I was told by the hockey office that what we saw tonight was the best option in their mind. Really?

Well, let's see here...

Four of the cheapest tickets at $20 each, multiplied by four: $80
Four small sodas at $3.50 each, multiplied by four: $14
Four hot dogs at $3.50 each, multiplied by four: $14

Total, minus web purchase and credit card fees: $108

That is a good deal.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

There really isn't an excuse for shafting students like that. There is no way the money made from the very meek student turnout was worth it.

And Allen, were you the guy dancing at intermission to one of the Brass songs? It was a guy in a group of 3 dudes.

I've only been dancing during Everybody's for three years now, dude! I thought that was widely known here! :D

In other words, yep. :D

Haha, I guess usually there are a lot of people surrounding you so it's a bit more difficult to spot. But you're a pretty good dancer:D

I am always surprised how seamless the transition back to msu hockey is for me. I guess i have been doing it for so long that when games start again, it almost feels like i attended a game last week.

I think that come friday we will see our typical early year 5000 attendance mark.

I'll take a couple of stabs at attendance for our next five:

Fri., v. Clarkson: 4,500
Sat., v. Clarkson: 5,000
Fri., v. WMU: 5,100
Thu., v. UWO: 4,400
Fri., v. UWO: 5,000

I especially like it when he goes crazy in the outro and throws his jersey 10 rows down onto some innocent bystander and fall onto people

Petry was really good
His D partner, Krupp waas also really good, especially for a freshmen
Levielle looked really good
I paid attention to grant becuase of the hype and he looked good too

I thought we were going to be horrible this year from the people we lost but we seem even better somehow without having Lerg, Crowder, Shepke

apparently W Ontario beat Ohio state so they cant be that bad

Also, its embarrasing MSUFCU offered 500 free tickets and the total attendence was onlly 500. I had a free ticket with my grandparents but I could have got one from MSUFCU.

What advantage is it to not include this game in the slapshots package? Because from what it looked like, not a lot of students paid for the game because they didnt get it.

hm? total attendance was reported at about 3500, not 500. I would peg it at closer to 2500, though. Not good but considering it was WO on a monday after last season, whatever.

And you must have meant Krug. Yes, he is quite talented. He might be one of the most skillful players on the team.
