Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Heh.

Seriously though, every year I've been here, the exhibition's been on the ticket package. Why pull it now? Does the athletic department seriously think they'll rake in the cash from the students clamoring to shell out $5 (with a $10 service charge if they buy online, mind you) for a CIS team? Seriously?

I mean, hell, the students need a warm-up, too.

Oh, and nice job with the student placement - I see the athletic department is still adhering to their placement practice of "We'll fling you wherever we have an empty seat!" rather than building, you know, an actual student section for this thing. Just out of curiosity, I went to the ticketing website, submitted a request, and got tossed into the visitor's section. Nice.

Oh, but it's $1 popcorn night.

Surely our AD is run by a bunch of idiots.
Exhibition was not on ticket package last year if I remember correctly. I was fumed about it then myself.

Actually, it was.

The problem was that, since there wasn't apparently anybody running Slaps at the time, you probably didn't know about it. (I vividly remember no reminder e-mail being send prior to puck-drop.)

Oh, here's a snippet from my trip to Jenison earlier today...

Me: "I want one student ticket for the UWO game on Monday."
Counter: "... you realise that game is on your ticket package, right?"
Me: "According to about nine people that work within this building and the hockey office, it isn't."
Counter: "Oh... yeah, you're right. Where would you like to sit?"
Me: "Where are you tossing the students?"
Counter: "Everywhere"
Me:

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

While I'm in a complaining mood (I just sent a pretty bitter e-mail to Hollis and the AD regarding this whole UWO situation)...

Our hot dogs are garbage. Always have been, always will be. Thee most bland, non-descript frankfurter ever. And somehow the buns are always stale, even though the dogs have probably been in a steamer for about three hours prior to sale.

MSU needs to hook up with a food supplier that has connections with National Hebrew, or something.

Stay away from the roller dogs. Walking tacos are the best.

Green v. White game today at 7:00p.

It may not be exactly hockey, but it's hockey-esque. At this point, that's close enough for me. :D

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Somebody pinch me.

At any rate - tonight the Green beat the White, 3-2

Unofficlal numbers ...
1st Period -
GREEN: 10:42, Sucharski (Shelgren)
Penalties - None
2nd Period -
WHITE: 2.49, Gazley (unassisted); GREEN: 8:36, Crandell (A.J. Sturges); GREEN: 14.26, Grant (unassisted) shorthanded; WHITE: 15:53, Perlini (Leveille)
Penalties - GREEN: tripping - 2 min 4:26, Tropp. GREEN: contact to head (cross-check) - 2 min 13:22, Tropp. GREEN: tripping - 2 min 18:13, Hayes.

Goalies:
Palmisano 28 shots, 26 saves; Jarosz 18 shots, 16 saves; McMahon 8 shots, 7 saves.

Notes:
McMahon was in goal for both sides.
First goal was shot from the point by Shelgren, tipped by Sucharski.
White tied it when someone's (?) shot on a 2-on-1 was dropped by Palmisano, and Gazely was there to deposit it.
Green re-took lead on a short-handed steal at blueline by Grant and breakaway goal. A bit later Crandell made it 3-1 on a slap shot from 20 feet that rang just inside the left pipe. Perlini capped White's scoring from left of crease on feed from Leveille.

Shootout goals by Nill, Hayes, Sucharski, Perlini, Dan Sturges, Kivisto, Dunne, Petry and Josepher.

Jeff Dunne, Dan Sturges and Kurt Kivisto played as alumni.

I'd like to pinch the knucklehead at the Green and White game who insisted on bellowing at everything like this was the CCHA championship game. Hey, buddy, do the words "This doesn't count for anything" ring a bell with you?

That said, I think there was a lot to like tonight. Can't wait to see Derek Grant bust out one of those breakaways in a real game - that was so pretty :D

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Checked out the Green 'n' White game and i left pretty satisfied with what i saw and i had a pretty good time. It was a bit messy at times but I think we will be quite a bit better than last year and some of the freshman are certainly as talented as we have been hoping. I didn't do a very good job and evaluating individual players much because i was mostly just paying attention to the game as a whole but Krug, Grant and Hayes all looked pretty solid to me. Hayes had a helllll of a shot in the shootout. Nice. I know that Nill wasn't listed on Comley's media day depth chart but i thought he looked pretty speedy out there and seemed to work really hard. It was cool seing some alumni out there as well.

Unfortunately, i did see who i believe to be Grassi, walking around the concourse with a cast on his wrist/forearm...

That would be Angry Guy. He's got to get warmed up for the regular season too!!!

That's who i was thinking that was. I was sitting a couple sections over and was just thinking that that is either Angry Guy or a real *******.

I loved the giddyup in Nlll's skating tonight. Tough to judge a very scrappy first period but when things opened up in 2nd, offenses began to click a bit more. Nice breakaway goal by Grant shorthanded. No doubt Krug is going to be special. Hayes and Chelios are both smart and mature.
Always for me difficult to judge a team overall in scrimmage - tomorrow might be more revealing.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Well it looks like Western Ontario just took down Ohio State in overtime. I believe OSU is supposed to be quite solid so i wonder how that game played out on the stat sheet. It makes tomorrow even a bit more interesting, though.

I didn't catch which kid it was, but Comley said during his press conference Tuesday that one of the freshmen is out for at least this week with a broken thumb after falling out of the top bunk in his dorm.

You know, there's was a reason why I always opted for the bottom bunk. :D

Just got back from the Green v. White game. Not much to say analytically - Palmisano's first goal looked pretty bad - but I had a good time nonetheless.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

That guy really needs to get his priorities straight.

New linesman Wesley will probably think a little harder before he calls an icing that's not an icing. Vida will consider not calling a penalty from the red line on a possible penalty below the dot that his partner has a better view of. The fellas might consider hustling on and off the ice. Woody may actually make the catch when the puck is slung in his direction.

That said, I'm excited about Hayes, Krug and Grant. Hayes was a standout all night, as was Dan Sturges. Krug looks like a natural QB on the PP. That brake away and shot on the penalty kill by Grant was impressive. He reminded me of a young David Booth. There was a lot of sloppy play but I'm writing that off as scrimmageness.

UWO played strong in their NCAA opener last year and kinda fell apart the next night. But OSU had twice the penalty minutes of UWO so they probably had it coming.

PP:
UWO - 2-12
OSU - 0-6

Shots:
UWO - 30
OSU - 37

FaceOffs:
UWO - 33
OSU - 52

Sounds like a lot of whistles. Doesn't bode well for our young team but time will tell.

Go Green!

Totally forgot about that.

Grant was, IMO, the most impressive-looking player tonight. He has play-making ability - something this team desperately needed last season. He's going to be a factor on this team, and early.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

On the flip-side - while last year's rookie forwards Nill and Perlini seemed to have added a step, it seemed their classmate Leveille was a bit "off". Hopefully his heart just wan't in it.

I was thinking that as well. I was expecting him to be everywhere with great speed but i was pretty underwhelmed. With how hard we was reportedly working this summer i am thinking he was just not giving it all...i hope.

Well a lot of questions will be answered in less than 24 hours.
