Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

And speaking of marketing efforts:

MSUFCU is giving out 500 free tickets for Western Ontario ... and for $5 to members who show up after the free ones are gone.
I'm not going to lie - I let out a little bit of a groan after seeing this.

Oh, and in regard to the hotel situation for our Clarkson fan, the walk from the Kellogg Center to Munn is more like two minutes instead of 10. You could probably see Munn (or the old-growth trees that disguise Munn) from your room, actually - you'll be that close.

That said, you'll pay though the hiney.

I walk real slow :D

Also I understand the reaction - "Great, we fill 500+ seats with people who only show up if there's free/deeply discounted admission involved."

The optimist in me says we'll play real well against a Canadian college team in front of people who don't appreciate the difference from D-1 opponents and ... the perception of a good product is born.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Thanks for the information everyone. I'm looking forward to a nice weekend there both for the hockey and the other atmosphere. It's a shame it's an away weekend for football but I'll probably go over to see Spartan Stadium anyway.

I booked at the Quality Inn... business rate of $79 per night versus $150 for the Mariott. Looking at the maps it seems fairly close and I don't mind walking around.

I presume Comcast Local will be carrying most of the remainder?

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Anybody else make it out to the last "unofficial" practice?
Did you like what you saw?

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I'm gonna go with Yes.

Well that's a bit encouraging. The last few days i have heard a lot of good things about this team and it has really been building my excitement. Monday is too far away. I can't wait any longer. I've gotta run away somewhere!

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Ever considered banking with a credit union? :p
Heh.

Seriously though, every year I've been here, the exhibition's been on the ticket package. Why pull it now? Does the athletic department seriously think they'll rake in the cash from the students clamoring to shell out $5 (with a $10 service charge if they buy online, mind you) for a CIS team? Seriously?

I mean, hell, the students need a warm-up, too.

Oh, and nice job with the student placement - I see the athletic department is still adhering to their placement practice of "We'll fling you wherever we have an empty seat!" rather than building, you know, an actual student section for this thing. Just out of curiosity, I went to the ticketing website, submitted a request, and got tossed into the visitor's section. Nice.

Oh, but it's $1 popcorn night.

Surely our AD is run by a bunch of idiots.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

A friend of mine goes to OSU and he likes to attend their games and he says that they have quarter dog nights. QUARTER DOGS! We got like $5 dog nights.
While I'm in a complaining mood (I just sent a pretty bitter e-mail to Hollis and the AD regarding this whole UWO situation)...

Our hot dogs are garbage. Always have been, always will be. Thee most bland, non-descript frankfurter ever. And somehow the buns are always stale, even though the dogs have probably been in a steamer for about three hours prior to sale.

MSU needs to hook up with a food supplier that has connections with National Hebrew, or something.

It's run by someone who's really rounding into form as a <edit>rabid</edit> football/basketball-centered administrator. 2 years ago I don't think those in power would have considered all these changes we've seen the last couple seasons.

At least we've got Johnsonville Brats ($1 more than the dogs), Hungry Howie's and walking tacos.
