Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Man, that was a hilarious letter that the person wrote. Kid goes from being an NCAA champion, to a quitter. If he was that upset about not being good enough to get playing time why didn't he transfer out? Instead he loses face and walks out on his team before the year is done.

And thats shenanigans about not letting you switch the names on the seats, should be some sort of pass down form, especially when held in the family for that long.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I agree there was a better way to handle the situation. He could have tried talking to someone, namely Comley, earlier on and asked why he wasn't playing and if he needed to transfer to get some playing time somewhere else.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Although I do wonder why he didn't dress at least one time during the season (did he dress for any exhibitions?), that is poor on his part to walk out on the morning of Senior Night.

As for the non-transferring of season tickets, Michigan State is not the only one who has such a policy.

This is the type of issue that should be taken care of by assistant coaches. They are the ones that are responsible for creating friendships with players. We have two of the best assitants in the country and I would be shocked if they didnt know about this before it happened and try in some way to keep it under control.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

No i do believe that he didn't play at all(correct me if I am wrong), I guess they were to concerened with making our young guys better then playing a senior who really has never played much.

He played against NTDP in January.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I hope they do finally get some sense and work hard to get that place sold out and full of hockey fans.
That'd be nice, but it must be noted that, in the past, our CCHA tournament home games have been pretty poorly attended. I think we've broken the 5,000 level only once in seven years.

It should also be noted that we've been stuffing our building as of late with a lot of people that haven't been paying full-price admission. The family four-packs and $10 tickets of the last few weeks will not be an option next weekend.

That said, if the #5, #6 and #7 seeds do advance, thus meaning we'll meet with Michigan again, most of that stuff can get tossed out the window.

been a season ticket holder since Dem Hall. i thought they were only redoing the seating assignments for Breslin next year. i don't recall seeing anything about moving folks for Munn. did i miss something here?

I believe it is relative to your seat location. They are trying to get season ticket holders to the sides of the rink and keep the ends mostly for public ticket sales.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Hey if the student section isn't there me and my brother will do some cheer starting as I have brought my new cow bell to the recent games... We sit right across from you guys Alan and always do most of the cheers... There are usually open seats so if you really wanted some back up just come over and sit by us as we are big fans of yours.

So you were part of that group of guys across the way then? Nice job, I really thought having another section on the other side of rink cheering added a ton to the atmosphere at Munn.

One word of advice, DONT try to start the wave. You may have noticed that the student section will yell, wave their arms and boo those that try start the wave. This is do to the 'superstition' that whenever the wave is started, the oppossing team scores. This I believe started a few years back, when the wave was done about three times in one game, and each time, within at least a minute after the wave was performed, the opposing team scored. This 'curse' has proven itself again this year as well, I believe it was against Notre Dame.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Also don't try to start any other chants. Unless the student section starts one, it's just not worth chanting.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

We were fine with everything you guys were doing up until the wave.

You should know better - you never do the wave at a hockey game. It's giganticly boneheaded-looking and borderline dangerous.

Not to mention, more often than not, bad things generally happen when the wave is successfully done at Munn.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Just venting some frustration based hearing the crowd on the opposite corner engaged in "Go Green" or "Lets Go State" at critical junctures, while the student section refraining from joining in, only to restart the same chant two minutes later. Like the old SNL bit, you can't own the wave, or a chant, we're all just along for the ride. And no, it wasn't "better in my day" (only four years removed from the northeast corner, now residing in the southwest) but then, just as now students held an "us and them" mentality where the "old-timers" don't cheer, clap or root for the team. In honesty We Are All Spartans, and we should all be, and are pulling on the same rope. [/rant]

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Again, we had no issue with the group across us. It was actually refreshing to get our call/response "Go green!" chant to actually work. (It was also nice to be on the "Go white!" end for a change.) We didn't really know what that group was chanting a good chunk of the time, be we relayed any chants from over there (that we caught) that were of importance. ("Put in Bobby!" was one of these chants.)

I mean, hell, our student section's been raked over the coals so many times this season by the "elders" and angry, power-tripping members of the athletic department that, really, seeing anything in that building that was spirited and embraced was great and promising.

I'm fine and am appreciative of any additional zeal. Well, just as long as that zeal doesn't include the wave (which frankly should be banned from Munn altogether.)

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I hate the wave as much as anyone, but I don't care if they are doing it for all 60 minutes as long as they are involved. I am as superstitious as anyone, and I hate the wave as much as the next guy but beggars cant be choosers. People creating atmosphere at Munn...any atmosphere, is a good thing.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

No i am not part of that group but sat right across the isle from them... They usually come about once a year and are always a lot of fun.. I agree about not doing the wave as I am just following the student sectoin most of the time. If you would look over my brother, his wife, and my mom are pretty much the only ones doing the number of goals-sieve chant on our side.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

No wave... there is nothing more pointless, especially whilst the puck is in play during critical moments of the game.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Alright, as long as we are airing our grievances about Munn here, I have long been tired of the 300 audio clip nonsense.
