Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

So the team has been traveling for 8 hours now and are about halfway through the journey...I wonder how many people Krug has interfered with by this point??

It started off with the boarding call. Also, the captain calls for a crosscheck (before landing).

Lots of "Oh, holy crap, it's cold as eff!" status updates from our hockeyists on Facebook.

Well, at least it isn't -70 at that armpit of the earth.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

So I was thinking...I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. But I have noticed a theme developing lately where we play flat on Saturday following emotional Friday games.

So I tried to mess around with a few combinations that I think would help boost energy and efficiency. Our % of completed passes is much lower on Saturdays, as are our shots on goal. With that, here is what I propose for Saturday only.

Tropp-Grant-Gazley
Rowe-Levielle-Sucharski
Forfar-Hayes-Chelios

I think we have a tendancy to lose our legs on Saturday nights. I think these combinations put a new person will skilled hands on each line. I may be over thinking things, but I see a poblem down the line if we cannot put together sweeps right now.

That's cool - cept who's gonna win faceoffs on top line?

I dont have numbers in front of me, but from my memory I like Tropp in the defensive end and Gazley in the offensive end.

On a completely different note...someone I know who is connected to the athletics department but not precisely to hockey has mentioned that one of the areas of overhaul will be to the hockey uniform as a part of the new branding concept for the university.

Even though the spartan head logo is not changing, it sounds like the black pants and the script Michigan State will change. I don't care about the pants but I will be extremely disappointed if the script logo is discarded.

Dang, even though our hockey uniforms have changed a number of times over the years, they have always looked sharp, especially with the script. I will be pretty bummed if they switch it to just a straight logo or S of sorts because i do not think it will look nearly as good. OSU's jersey's looked bad enough with that design. I think the black pants are cool, too.

Maybe by "script michigan state will change" they mean the font. They have changed that before.

I am 99-percent certain this'll be the last season where we'll wear the script "Michigan State" text. The logo's only really used for the hockey team, and I think that's the type of thing this whole rebranding initiative is strictly against.

I'd expect us to get all Rangers-style diagonal lettering, or, more likely, we'll end up adopting the basketball logo. (And yes, I will be very ****ed about that.)

Oh well, it's hockey, therefore Hollis doesn't give a s***.

Not the diagonal lettering, please :(

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

It could be far worse. This was, reportedly, an unofficial logo from 1978-82.

That smiley is appropriate. Sheesh ...

About the game - didn't we throw an insane amount of shots toward the net last night? I wanna say 20 of them missed wide/high and at least as many were blocked.

I'm thinking at times what SD3 really applies. Perhaps this lineup has grown a bit stale and we need something to jumpstart it.
I think were were one extra pass away from getting pucks on this guy. Evidently Alaska's M.O. is to block anything that comes from between the circles.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

That stale concept has been veryabvious since our scoring dropped off from that torrid pace of late december/early January. I knew we couldnt keep up that pace, but it should be possible to mix things up a bit and create a spark.

The TV is listed as Comcast for tonight. Is this accurate? If so I'm going to have to find a bar here in metro-detroit as I have DirecTV. I'm not sure I even want to see toniights game, but I cant skip an opportunity to watch the Spartans!

It is interesting you point this out because i got the same feeling during the first game against Notre Dame earlier in the season. We were being outshot and i was surprised and just said "man, it seems all we do is throw it wide" Then those intermission shot reports came on and shots wide were 17-3:eek:

I was checking out our offense earlier this week and we are the highest scoring team in the CCHA. I also noticed one thing that i almost mentioned but am really glad i didn't and that is that we have yet to be shutout this season. If i did, this loss would surely be blamed on me:p

Whelp, gotta win tonight and we have to get more pucks to the net. 16 shots is last year.

It's Comcast Digital channel 900 at our house in EL.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Hockey at 8, Basketball at 9...looks like I will be taking over the tv's at Pappy's Pub in Detroit tonight!

I hope Palmisano plays his game tonight...I dont have much confidence in this team to provide much scoring tonight.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Well, at least we win another shootout so it feels mostly like a win. Another disappointing weekend though and if it weren't for all the teams behind us losing, we would probably have dropped a couple spots by now. Not to mention another hit to our NCAA hopes...but our series with ferris will likely determine whether we finish ahead of them or not so let's hope we can make something happen.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

We've put ourselves in a nasty position where I think we must sweep both Ferris and BGSU if we want to make the tournament.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Who arounf the college hockey world would have thought the upper ranks of the CCHA would be determined by a series between MSU and Ferris.

In a way I am just excited we are competative, but at the same time we are not maximizing our potential and that is so frustrating!

We DVR'd a game between Ferris and Miami in late October, either right before or right after MSU played Miami. I remember watching that game and saying that Ferris would have something to do with the league race before the end. Blair Riley is seriously scary, and when their goaltending is on it's really, really good.

I also understand it's a super tough place to play. We are making the trip for the first time and are looking forward to it.
