Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

And it was good to see some sparring in the corners, the likes of which hadn't been seen in 9 years. For an instant I expected a 40-player pileup.

I believe it was 1998 when we had that disgusting brawl after the final buzzer of a UM win at Munn...as much as I hate Michigan that was a dark day in the rivalry. Tonight was rough and emotional, but it was mostly between the whistles. I loved that!

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

It almost became a bench clearer when Kampfer left his bench to try to join in. The ref sent him back, but should have called a penalty. Can you imagine if he had gotten down there? The intensity was good, and should carry over to tonight.

How many facemask penalties is Coach going to allow? Ouch..

I was surprised that the 2nd time Wilkins told him to go back to the bench he didn't disqualify him.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

here's what I don't understand...going into that melee there was a Michigan penalty already on the board, right? I believe there was about 50 seconds left on the penalty. Why did that come off the board? I haven't had a chance to go back and look at the tape but my father and the others around me all noticed that the penalty on the board had disappeared.

There was not. The previous penalty on the board was Lebler's roughing call, which expired when Tropp scored his second at 2:51. The scrum happened at 3:18, while Wohlberg was still in the box serving his misconduct.

Kampfer came off the bench to try to join in the scrum? Has he healed up enough that he can get into fistfights again?

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I enjoyed the extracurriculars last night. I loved how excited all of the students were, especially when Krug got them going. My excitement was tempered a bit when i noticed we had a major and a 5on3 disadvantage but we pulled it out.

That was a very important win for this team.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Krug has to keep in under control tonight. That bit with Wolhberg that lead to them both getting 2 for delay of game and a 10 for Wohlberg early in the third wasn't over at the end of the game.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Krug is a very emotional kid. I agree that he needs to work harder to keep himself in check. He's got "Captain" written all over him though if he continues to step up the way he has.

Imagine that guy wearing a 'C' in a locker room during 2nd intermission with his team trailing. I think he just gets himself so amped up for a game, and the plus side is it shows in his game. On the other hand it spills over into a few unnecessary penalties and what we saw Friday.

On the other other hand, I'd like 4 of him.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I am very, very concerned about an emotional letdown this weekend. Looking at the way the game ended Saturday, our young squad must be hurting right now. Given what is on the line in the national picture I ALMOST wish he had been blown out Saturday instead of such an emotional roller coaster.

With all the travel this week, I think it is important to play fresh legs on night two, and maybe even mix the lines up a bit to keep minds sharp and legs fresh. Alaska is a dangerous team, and we need 6 points really bad.

On the other hand, there was the comeback and the idea was planted that no reasonable deficit is insurmountable - even when you're getting your butts kicked. The energy expended against a rediculously good skating team like Michigan may have taken a bit out of our team at the end.
But speaking of mixing, watching the JLA game again I saw MSU at its most dangerous when Leveille centered with Chelios and Nill.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I question that combination on paper, as I like all three players with the puck on heir stick, but I hate their ability to pass the puck (or lack thereof). But in the end they went very well together. I think they had good chemistry.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I think we will be fine. I believe we will put forth solid efforts this weekend but what i am concerned about is playing on big ice at 11 at night.

Well our boys will have 2 1/2 days to get used to the time change. So it'll be more like 7 ;)

Considering that our hockey team is filled with college-aged kids, I'm sure staying up past 11p isn't too much of a problem. Sure isn't for me, at least. :D ;)

Now, sleeping, eating, and living in a cramped 17.5-inch seat in an equally-cramped 737 for 16 hours at 37,000 feet, that might cause some fatigue issues. But, seeing that the team is leaving tomorrow morning, we should be past those issues by gametime on Friday.

I do fear an emotional let-down, though, onset by last weekend's set. We're catching UAF at a pretty good time right now, but I can see them sweeping us if we're still sulking over last Saturday at the Joe.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

It looks like i will be at MTU this weekend so i will not be able to listen to the games. The last time I headed up there we were handily swept by Northern my freshman year so hopefully i don't reactivate some sort of curse or something.
