Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

So, any predictions on how the Warriors will do this weekend against Northeastern? I would like to predict a sweep but I believe that the Huskies are going to make that extremely difficult. I see a couple of real tight games, probably one or two goal contests. Penalty troubles are going to be the difference IMO.

I hope you are right. How has Northeastern's goalies been doing??

I think a split this weekend. Both teams win at their barns Merrimack 4-2 Northeastern 3-2.

Power Play was pathetic for the Warriors last night. Let's just keep jamming the square peg into the round hole. Eventually the corners will wear down and it will sort of fit. Last year we had the experiment of having mostly Freshmen on the second PP unit, essentially useless. This year it appears that some players are getting opportunity while others are not, the wrong players IMO. Skew the performance however you want but the special teams need to produce, and last night the PP had plenty of opportunity to win the game, and didn't.

Awesome game last night. It was great hearing the crowd go silent and seeing the fans put back their shirts with their heads down.

Great atmosphere at the Matthews as always, MC put together a pretty good visitor's section too. I hope that the fans the Lawler will be even half as vocal as the Husky fans someday (note to students: chant more than twice).

Friday's game is gonna be awesome.

Merrimack up to #6 nationally, including receiving 2 first place votes. Great start to the season.

First 1st place votes in D1 history?

Friday night is huge.

I have a gut feeling that the Warriors will be taking no prisoners on Friday night. Just have to stay out of the penalty box.

Who would have thought we see the day that a Merrimack team would be going into BU for their first meeting of the season and Merrimack is the team that by ranking are the team expected to win

Easily, this is the game of the week in Hockey East land and a type of game that could be a springboard for the rest of the season. Both team still have a lot to prove and if Lowell was off, it would definitely be a game I'd love to see in-person.

According to Mike McMahon of warriorrinkrat (posted on my FB page), MC receive a single 1st place vote last February, but this is the first time we had more than one AND the first time we had at least 1 1st place vote in both polls.

I agree, both teams are going to be ready to rock. Warriors will prevail in this one.

Not sure how this is anymore 'the' game in Hockey East land than BU/BC on Sunday.... Hopefully its a good contest though!

This. The media seems to think that the casual sports fan only cares about BC. (Though MC got some name drops on the sports hub flashes during the tourney run last year at least).

Honestly, I think [Merrimack-BU] is a bigger game on a HE and national level for this week. Merrimack College is #6 in the country and a lot of national media will be watching this face off against a Boston University team while #16 in the country, have lost to two HE teams this season in a "rebuilding mode". One can make a very good argument that while Merrimack's undefeated stretch has been very impressive, this game would prove to be their biggest test of the young season. Merrimack has a lot more to lose if they are routed on Friday than any result of the the first BU/BC game on Sunday. Competing against NFL football with a 4:00 PM faceoff and people travelling to Patriots parties for the night game doesn't help this cause.

BU/BC will always be a heated rivalry and a special contest every time they take the ice. Just because they are playing each other doesn't always mean they should be treated as the second coming. They see each other at least three and often times four games per year. Over the past two years, Merrimack College has proven that they deserve to share in that top spotlight. If they should prevail against BU tomorrow night, it's going to be an interesting read from all of the HE fans on this board.

Agreed, MC is now in the spotlight, hopefully it's not too bright!

The best part of last night was looking at the score sheet. All three goals were guys who scored their first of the year and two were by freshmen. I never thought I would say this but this years team is just deeper than last years.

I am disappointed for the 12 day lay off, but hopefully Merrimack moves up the next two weeks in the poll.

La Dolce Vita continues. Sloppy game and just crap reffing (sadly no surprise) but when the bleep hits the fan our boys have been able to produce. Let's see how BC does over the weekend but #5 is certainly possible.
