Salvo, I'm right there with ya...sitting through some of the worst times in the 90's and 2000's, it's unimaginable that a time would come that would find them as the top team in the country. Still in shock. Wow. Let's hope it doesn't go to their heads.

Congrats to the Warriors on reaching the top of the college hockey world!! Well done!! And to you fans that have stuck by them through all the bad times, enjoy every minute of these good times!!

I thought it would be a cold day in hell that Merrimack would be ranked as #1 in the country at any time before UMass Lowell earned the same distinction. I guess today is a cold day :p

Looks like us Lowellites will have to come up with a new Merrimack chant at Volpe/Lawler that was almost a given five or so years ago. That doesn't work anymore. :eek:

Congrats to the #1 MACK. I sincerely hope your reign atop the polls is not just a flash in the pan and heralds good things for the program.

So much has changed since my senior year there when they won 3 games. Today is a great day in Warrior hockey history and I can't wait until Wed.

As a survivor, what do you attribute the Warrior's transformation to? Is it the players? coach? culture? fans? Grit? Talent? all of the above??

And congrats from this UNH fan! I hope that your season plays out as successfully as it has to date. I doubt 'Mack is going back to being the dependable doormat of Hockey East anytime soon -- nor anywhere close. You may instead be knocking on the door. Enjoy the rarified air atop the heap!

Basically all of the above. Since Dennehy's arrived there's basically been a complete turnaround of the program and the school itself.

Hard not to like this story. Very cool for college hockey in general that a small school in a big conference can not only compete but succeed. Good on Merrimack and their fans.

If I can wax poetic for a second, I remember watching MC beat #2 ranked UNH 1-0 in late 2005 in a season where Merrimack went 6-23-5. At the time, defeating a team ranked that high, and shutting them out was about as good as it gets. Heck, scoring two goals a game back then was a good night.

At the time, I honestly never thought this program would ever be good enough to be #2 in the country, recruit players to compete with the behemoths of BC, BU, UNH, Maine or sellout the barn. Now that I have seen all of it, and only 6 years later - I am utterly amazed - there is no other way to say it.
