Yes, all of the benches are gone, and replaced with chairback seats, the road team also enters from behind their bench now as well, so you should have a good view of the Wildcats at the start of each period...

To clarify - There is a new student bleacher section added behind the opposing goalie.

when did they make the last few changes? I could have sworn I sat on benches earlier this season

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

it's listed at 6500 on the Tsongas Center site........i kinda thought they might know. the 6488 was the announced crowd at the BC game
http://www.tsongascenter.com/center_information.php
all I know is what I hear on the radio... I haven't dug around for official numbers. They had to take out seats when they built the new space (the name of which, I've forgot)... I wouldn't be surprised if SRO was around 6500.

Anyone know what teams if any are looking at Barton? He's been great this year, landed the HE player of the week yesterday.

I think I read here they began the visiting seats after the BC game, I think they had NU in for a game and that section was completely closed off to spectators as they were already in the process of upgrading.

You're right. They finished all the seating over Christmas break.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

The visitor's side seats were done over the Christmas break.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Raising prices to $15.00 at 2600+/- every game over 15+ games funded the seats, not the support from anyone.
The total renovation was maybe 300-400K tops, and I doubt that high.

Where are you getting your info??? It's been printed that the total renovations have now topped $2MM (it might have been $3MM...I'm looking for the article now). You really are clueless...GO AWAY...The few weeks that you were gone were the best in a LONG time on this board...please, I beg you. GO THE F AWAY!!!

I think what he was trying to say is that that with the quality of the renovations it looks like they only spent 300k. Unless they bought a one million dollar bucket of paint I just don't see it. Anyway good luck this weekend and hopefully you guys get the sweep.

Really??? You don't think it looks like they spent the money? Then again, we don't get to see a lot of the renovations (ice beds, compressors, etc)...but the seats alone weren't cheap...the "piazza" in front was included in that figure as well...I think the place looks 2 million times better than it did, so maybe I'm looking at it from that standpoint :) LOL

As for what Hokydope said, he said, and I quote "The total renovation was maybe 300-400K tops, and I doubt that high." It doesn't say it looks like that...he threw out a magical figure of what it actually cost...and per usual on these boards, he's SO WRONG...he's an idiot and he looks like a fool on these boards who doesn't know his ***** from his elbow, nevermind actually knowing about the MC program. I've spent a long time just reading his BS...but on this one, I couldn't just sit there and let him spout of untrue facts...he supposedly has connections with MC...I HIGHLY doubt it.

I don't know anything about how much renovations cost, but I'll say what they did there took an unacceptable Hockey East rink and made it an acceptable Hockey East rink. Nice to get rid of those high school bleachers, throw in some new paint, and put in seats behind the goals. I haven't been there since everything was completed, only was there once in the fall. It's definitely improved, but nothing stellar.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Relax, get a grip before you have a stroke.

They didnt spend 3 million dollars, nor did they spend 2 million. Maybe all in including previous year renovations and other add ons but the chairbacks and the clock, which didnt cost anything was not 2 million, If so, the same contractor who sold us $800.00 toilet seats is back in business.
Put it this way, mr insider. If they had put up 3 million, a corporate sponsor was going to kick in 5 million and build a new rink, including a practice facility that would have allowed for a womens program. Several of the guys who were presented jerseys at the on ice ceremony put up 30K or less and some did over a few years.

It is far superior to old rink and facility. Great place to watch a game and great fan support. If you dont believe that the school, league and players deserve better, such as life.

The administration supports the program but less so than any other Hockey East program, by a mile+. I love watching MC hockey and support it but the fans and all included should not accept this as a final product. The emperor is naked

I don't get what is such a novel concept about this. Every conference has a school that is lacking behind every other school in the league. Ferris State has been competitive in the CCHA, but their facility isn't anything to write home about, but it is loud and the students come out in droves. Notre Dame's facility has been lacking for years. I know they are finally building a new. Ohio State, one of the biggest money makers in all of college athletics, play their home playoff games at their practice rink. Have you ever seen Duke's football stadium? Look, I wish we had this really nice rink with a complete bowl of seating that sat about 3500 with a higher ceiling, really nice leather seats, etc, but it isn't happening. The hockey program is significantly better and when Da Costa and Cannata leave, there will be a huge drop off, but I believe that this team will be competitive for the future. Dennehy is recruiting better and is a much better coach than Serino.

What's everyone's take for this weekend? I think two points is crucial.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

actually hokyidiot they couldnt build a new rink no matter what the donation because they dont have land to put it on and the town of north andover wont allow them too... aside from that the rink is great they did spend 2-3 mil on it that is a fact just cuz all you can see is the chair backs doesnt mean its all that was done, its a completely new ice surface and everything involved, please tell me you dont think it costs 50 dollars to put in that callibur ice surface and systems to maintain it, you cant be that dumb, plus moving the penalty box, creating a path under the seats for the visitors, as well as changing the cieling out the seat backs the new student section... ya your right they must not give a **** about the hockey program here. This isnt BC BU UNH Maine or VT ... MC doesnt have hundreds of millions of dollars nor do they have tons of wealthy athletic donors and alums, nor simply a large student body or other large sports programs. You cant just magically come up with money just because you want to support the program, money like that doesnt exist at a school like merrimack, but they are certainly doing an exceptional job for what they have available. we would all love it if you kept the rest of your input to other teams threads we dont want you or your "support"

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

the tsongas center seats 6496 and the 6800+ posted above was actually 6488 and i was one of them..........not to disagree, JC but MC's capacity % is way higher than Lowell if you want to compare that way http://www.collegehockeynews.com/almanac/attendance.php

We aren't disagreeing then. Again, if the actual capacity is 6500 then HE website has it wrong and that makes their attendence 63% and MC 78%.
