Mcha 2010-11

Re: Mcha 2010-11

I doubt that Adrian is targeting Canadian players with extra generous financial aid. Even if it is unintentional, schools that get a disproportionate proportion of athletes to non athletes in a grant program can and will be disciplined by the the NCAA. The test is as was noted above

to see if you can determine whether a student is an athlete or not by looking at his or her aid package.

If you have a grant program for Canadians and 90% of the Canadians on that program are athletes while only 40% of your student body are athletes, you have failed that test. Ask Geneseo and Buffalo state. They weren't trying to cheat, but didn't get enough non-athletes taking the package.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

The MCHA semis are set, and they are as follows. All times are EST:

Saturday:
Lawrence vs. Adrian, 2 PM
MSOE vs. Marian, 6 PM

Sunday:
Championship game, 2 PM

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Any idea what the logic is behind Saturday's order?

The winner of Game 1 gets an extra four hours of rest and the opportunity to scout the second game with the full knowledge that they will be playing the winner. McShane has done that in the ECAC East finals every year Norwich has hosted

Re: Mcha 2010-11

That, and it is the usual start time for most of the Saturday games anyways there at Adrian. Easier for the fans to plan when to show up.

Very true. I think those Saturday afternoon games are usually a function of travel considerations. Teams have a lot of ground to cover in the MCHA.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Possible longer rest for the top seed, perhaps?

I would almost guarantee that is the case ...

Should be an interesting weekend, just seems weird to me the way Adrian has sleep-walked through the season.
I hope they get it figured out.

I will also be curious to see who ends up getting MCHA Player of the Year. I envisioned Skelly at the start, but not sure what happened there.

I suspect that Adrian will be sharp. The seniors on the team have a lot on the line and they know that the other three schools can be competitive.

Adrian certainly haven't dominated on the scoreboard the way we've been accustomed to, but they have really tidied up their play defensively. They also lead the conference in special teams play. I think the overall improvement of the conference has contributed to the change. Not sure that sleepwalking describes Adrian's season.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Congrats are in order for MSOE coach Mark Ostapina and goaltender Cooner Toomey for being named MCHA Coach of the Year, and MCHA Player of the Year, respectively. Ostapina was the obvious choice, and although I thought it would be Jordan Keizer for POY, Toomey is a worthy choice.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Btw, what is going on with the program at LF???They are looking for a new coach. They need a new rink. What do you think has happened to the once well-respected and powerful Foresters?

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Adrian 9
Lawrence 2
Final

Marian 6
MSOE 1
End 2

I didn't expect either game to go quite like that. We're looking at an Adrian-Marian final again this year.
