Re: Mcha 2010-11
All right. More or less, we're roughly halfway through the MCHA schedule. What have we learned, if anything?
1) Adrian - Jekyl and Hyde, and vulnerable when they're not fully focused and at the top of their games.
2) MSOE - Better than I expected, and younger, too.
3) Marian - Not suprised that they would be the one to pop Adrian, but more surprised that they got swept by MSOE. Upon further review, should I be?
4) Lawrence - got beat by Northland?
5) Lake Forest - I suspected that not bringing in a defenseman or a goaltender this year would hurt them. I suspect that I'm right on this account. I'll see for myself in a couple weeks.
6) Northland - Better. Baby steps, but better
7) Finlandia - Worse than I thought. I'll know for my self just how bad next weekend (the weekend after this one). Coach McCabe has got his hands full.
8) Concordia - Improved, but they've still got a looong way to go. Two years ago I would have figured that they would get their game going before Northland. Oops.
Looking at the standings, we've got a clear top 4, and a clear bottom half. It's possible that both Finlandia and Concordia both end up with 1 win this season.
It's not a big surprise to me that Marian was the one to stop Adrian's streak. The biggest surprise to me is MSOE. Right now, if I had a vote, they've got the MCHA coach of the year in Ostapina and the player of the year in Keizer. Those of you that know me know that I'm not a fan of Ostapina, but the results don't lie, and right now, he's deserving. Keizer's numbers speak for themselves.
