Early leader in the "who can come up with the most demented explanation of the Marathon bombing," competition. FAU "professor" claims it was all a mass casualty "drill". Nobody was actually hurt. Damage claimed was far worse than what could be expected of a bomb that size, blah, blah, blah. It should come as no surprise he thought Newtown was staged and is also a 9/11 "truther."

Presented only to show just how deranged some of us are.*

Could be. There's a lot of overlap in here. Sort of like the "categories" page of a porn site: some clips appear in more than one list.

If you agree with her original premise, then much of the rest of the editorial follows. However, it's not clear to me how valid her initial premise is.

She seems to think that the "shelter-in-place" warning was primarily given to help police hunt down the brothers (i.e. it was a law enforcement measure). it seemed to me that the "shelter-in-place" request was more of a public safety measure: did they have bombs already planted elsewhere merely waiting to be triggered? did they have confederates who might unleash attacks to help cover their escape?

I do have to agree that any astute terrorist watching the response would be tempted next time to get all the law enforcement people from an area concentrated in one spot, and then have a second wave ready to go after the areas now devoid of law enforcement because they are already preoccupied elsewhere.

I do have to agree with what she said here:

How does the writer of that know what feeds or doesn't feed terrorism? Is she a terrorist? What would she have suggested otherwise? Have schools full of children, buildings full of people so these guys could try to kill more people with one bomb?

And from a few pages back...pretty funny to read our most liberal posters implying they would have done anything more than agree to pay more taxes to the king prior to the revolution.

Right, I'm with you on that one: the shelter in place was for public safety, not for law enforcement. At the same time, having all of your resources concentrated in one small area, while perfectly understandable at the time, in retrospect might also be seen as exposing a future vulnerability.

The more I read and learn, the more impressed I become with NYPD under Ray Kelly. They now have computer-aided technology that scans pictures of an area and notices discrepancies which can alert the police to unattended packages, for example. They are developing mobile radiation detectors. It's not just keeping people safe, it is preserving our freedoms to peacably assemble as well that is at stake here, and they know it.

The issue was taxation without representation, not just taxation.

no, seriously, I thought that there was a tax on every document you filed with the Court under the 1763 Stamp Act. Don't have time now to look it up now, will research later and edit if need be.

Wrong year, but essentially, yes.

The Stamp Act 1765 (short title Duties in American Colonies Act 1765; 5 George III, c. 12) imposed a direct tax by the British Parliament specifically on the colonies of British America, and it required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London, carrying an embossed revenue stamp.[1][2] These printed materials were legal documents, magazines, newspapers and many other types of paper used throughout the colonies. Like previous taxes, the stamp tax had to be paid in valid British currency, not in colonial paper money.[3] The purpose of the tax was to help pay for troops stationed in North America after the British victory in the Seven Years' War. The British government felt that the colonies were the primary beneficiaries of this military presence, and should pay at least a portion of the expense.
