"In the wake of the Boston Marathon attacks, where is the hue and cry from liberals calling for a ban on pressure cookers? At bare minimum there should be a limit on high-capacity cookers. How about background checks for purchases and a national owner registry?
That will stop these types of incidents, right?"

The bombers aren't Arab. They're Chechnian, and the younger one is a U.S. citizen. While it's certainly possible they are anti-Semitic, there's nothing at this point to indicate that's the case or that it played any role in Monday's events.

Your statement, at this point, is a bit like saying a Mexican Catholic must have hated the British 30 years ago because Irish Catholics did.

On a slightly related note, what is the difference between an "ethnic Chechen" and a "Chechen"? I've seen this a few places now and it seems a bit silly to include the word "ethnic".

Well, the combination of black powder + metal stuff + a pressure cooker is ilegal. Actually, just a pressure cooker + back powder is ilegal. What more of a ban of that do you want? :)

Much like a gun + 30 round clip in theory. Each part by itslef is ok. But that combination is legal.

And it should be not all that easy to get black powder.

We have one thing that, when used as intended, you end up with nicely cooked food. Then there's a second thing that, when used as intended, fires high velocity bits of metal at other objects, often used to kill the object it is being pointed at.

I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I can clearly see there's a difference between wanting to control the use of one vs the other.

It is tres important that we don't accuse that remorseless killer of being anti-Semitic. Blowing 8-year olds to pieces is enough for me. You'd be the guy criticizing an obituary of Hitler that failed to mention he was a vegan.

But you keep counting the number of fairies dancing on the head of that pin. You hear?
