Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

last fall someone had re-posted the original 9-11-01 thread which if I recall was faster. I'd say it was the fastest i've seen since I joined.
The 911 (original) thread was amazing. Long before Twitter and one could not get into any news site that day so for those without access to a TV or radio (worked in the way interior of a large building) this was by far the best source of information.

I heard the older brother left the US for more than 6 months last year, doesn't that render your Visa invalid? You have to spend more time here(in the US) than anywhere else or they take away your right to be here? Does anyone know how that works?

Lived in a sanctuary city (Cambridge). Your law there doesn't matter

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Several different news outlets reporting that the younger brother went to class on Wednesday and spent Wednesday night in his dorm.

Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev spent the two days after the horrific attack tweeting out rap lyrics and partying with his pals.

Tsarnaev, 19, kicked back at an intramural soccer party at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Wednesday, clearly confident that he and his older brother would get away with the marathon massacre.

“He was just relaxed,’’ a woman told the Boston Globe.

Electronic card swipes on campus show that before partying, the young killer — who was finally nabbed last night — had treated Wednesday like any other day, including putting in a workout at the gym, the Globe said.

The 9/11 denier slept in his single-unit dorm room that night — as hundreds of law-enforcement officials were looking for him.

From the classified ads in the Boston Globe. Boat for sale. Price negotiable. Needs work. Call 857-555-1212. Hey you don't suppose. Nah.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

I'm astounded that he survived the number of shots fired at the boat. Fiberglass isn't bulletproof.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

So, I was watching CNN after the caught the guy. The reporter was asking a woman how she felt when the city was locked down and no one could go anywhere. Her response? "I am disappointed because I had tickets to the Red Sox game tonight and it got cancelled." Priorities, Boston.

I think you'll find her in a small minority. And someone should have told her that the [phony] sellout streak is over. Sox tickets no longer have to be bought months ahead of time.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Its a federal law though, how does he get back into the country?

On your visa you get a 1 - One entry, 2 - Two Entries, or M - Multiple Entries.

My friend from Finland - M.
My classmate from Iran - 1.
Because they are from Russia originally, they probably got an M or at least 2.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

One thing I don't get, and I am not trying to pull a FlagDude, is why did law enforcement tell people to not answer doors, etc....but then proceed to go door-to-door looking for the suspect?

Its not the entries, its the length of time out of the country. What I've heard is more than half the year out and you can lose your Visa. With a domestic assault charge and FBI interviews, how does Thing 1 get back here?

They had permanent residency visas, if I heard correctly. Does that change the 6-month rule?

I don't think so, anyone with a green card is permanent resident as I understand it. I'm guessing the 6 month rule is judgement call of ICE official.?

The statements I saw indicated don't answer doors except for uniformed law enforcement with ID displayed.

Bombings heighten runners' commitment to 2014 Boston Marathon

As I saw posted on Facebook, if you're trying to defeat the human spirit, runners are the wrong group to target.

I don't have a link, but registrations for local races have skyrocketed in the past week. One race, the Fifth-Third River Bank Run in Grand Rapids (MI), has seen 500 new registrations alone.
Yeah, I would think just about every race, fun run, and obstacle course deal out there is going to have their best turnouts ever this year and probably into next year as well. Pretty sure I'm going to be seeing more runners this summer.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Red Sox pre-game ceremony was nicely done.

David Ortiz (paraphrased) - This is our ****in' city. Stay strong!

NESN didn't have the delay in effect.:D
