Undoubtedly there were BU fans who took off before the DU/Cornell game

You think? :smiley It looked to me like 95% of the BU fans left. I just don't understand that, frankly. I know it's "dinner" time but you can get back in, right? Didn't I read somewhere that someone posted they were told to "hold onto" their tickets because the games were separate admission? Or do I have that wrong?

Regarding the matchup, I just don't see a "big" BU win. The game is going to be very tight-checking and there won't be much space or open ice. It's always a tough game against Cornell. And because of Red Hot Hockey we see them frequently (not to mention the obvious history of the NCAA Finals matchup against Ken Dryden). I don't predict, so we'll leave it at that.

I know it's "one game at a time," but I can't help but to "peek" ahead at the potential BU/Minnesota FF matchup. A renewal of old bad blood. I STILL get angry when I think about the cr** that Minny pulled in that game. We were listening to the broadcast from our dorm room at Myles Standish.

We had also lost to them in the 1974 semi-finals at Boston Garden, when Vic Stanfield coughed up the puck at the blue line and Mike Polich beat Eddie Walsh in OT.

I'm not saying that this team (none of whom were even close to being born yet) is going to be "motivated" by that, but I know I will be.

Nope, they weren't allowing re-admission...

This is an interesting story originally published in 2020.

(Looks like you need an "account" to read the entire thing but at least you can get a flavor for it...how it was described in the movie "Miracle" is not really that far off...)

I assume attendance will be about as good as it can get on Saturday.
Reasonable game date/time and two teams within driving distance with fan bases that travel reasonably well.
I'll be interested to see how Cornell does attendance wise. They have a passionate fanbase. Cornell fans at RHH usually outnumber BU by 2 or 3 to 1, but Manchester is different from NYC.

They would bring a LOT of fans back in the day when the old ECAC tournament was played at the old Gahden. Including that guy with the long air horn that would always sit in the first row of the balcony (BTW, the best seats EVER for any hockey game anywhere).

(and the UNH folks will remember FONDLY the 1977 semifinals against said Big Red)

If Cornell plays like they did yesterday it will be similar to what BU faced at the Garden in Hockey East. Tough games where they had to come from behind and win in OT. Ultimately I think the skill BU has pulls out the W. 2-1, possibly in OT of course.

Obviously I remember the semifinals fondly not so much the final:-(

However I am very fond of the old ECAC days (probably because subconsciously I want to relive my youth) so I love this matchup and the fact that it is in New England to boot.

We got revenge in 1995 semi' and beat them in the Mariucci that year too.

They (DU) were also shut out as a one seed in their last game to seven seed Colorado College in the NCHC semis six days ago.

Haven't been following the other conferences that closely, but that's an important piece of information in light of my comments about how poorly DU played last night. Something is clearly amiss right now with that group, and before my new BFF Lynah gets the vapors over the utterance of gambling as a possible (discounted) motive, let's revisit what I posted last night ...

Denver was puzzling. How do you not come to play when you are defending champions, and a #1 seed?

Cornell played well ... but I wouldn't be shocked if someday it surfaced that something was amiss in the DU camp. They treated the Cornell blue line like it was a rattlesnake - lots of dumb plays, poor shot selection, WAY too passive play overall, and the goalie was just so nonchalant on the second Cornell goal. Plus the Big Red owned the slots, at both ends. Cornell could/should have won 5-0, and I bet some of them are wondering afterwards "What just happened??" Half the DU team left the ice as if they just missed the PGA cut Friday afternoon, couldn't wait to get back on the plane home. Just ... weird ... I know, there's not enough money bet on college hockey to make it a thing, but I can't remember the last time my BS detector was on so strongly, right from the start. I doubt Cornell's goalie broke a sweat. Even the obligatory scrum with 3 seconds left at the end looked like the Pios were going through the motions - "See, we really DO care" etc. Nah - not buying.

So, my overriding point is that something was amiss with the DU team that took to the ice last night. It looked to me like they were playing JAG (just another game) in mid-November, when they are clearly a squad that knows WAY better is required at this time of the season. And learning how their previous game went, seems to reinforce my point. The only folks who know for sure are the guys in the DU locker room, and I don't expect them to be airing their dirty laundry for public consumption anytime soon. But most of the guys on that squad played last night as if they were Frito Lay delivery drivers stocking the shelves at your local Speedway. Get in, get done, get out. Not how you win postseason games, and DU of all programs should know that ... so I'll stick with "something was amiss" and leave it at that.

Was that the game when the MN fans were doing their M-I-N-N...chant after a goal and BU scored while they were doing it? IIRC BU won that game 7-4, or something like that. Correct me if I'm misremembering.

There were a ton of Cornell fans at Agganis at the game this season. I expect the same tomorrow. I bet there are quite a few in the Boston area and NYC isn’t that bad of a trip away.

Me. I was told that when I purchased tickets. They changed it, posted signs and announced "no readmission" multiple times during the first game. You DO need yesterday's ticket to enter tomorrow if you purchased an all session ticket.

No doubt. At minimum, the absolute worst time to be valley-ing when you should be peaking.

Totally. To the point of being ridiculous.

I actually said this out loud during the game, substituting December or January for November.

Lower seats essentially sold out with 1 or 2 popping up randomly on Ticketmaster. Four upper sections went on sale last night and are selling reasonably well. Looking forward to UNH Athletics making bank and hosting for many more years.

What's up with these generic/cliched/robotic announcers doing the games? You all bitch about Bucci and Melrose, but at least they have personality, and pizzazz, and cache. Same with Dave Starman. I don't know what ESPN is thinking.

I have to mention that there was a Dwight Schrute doppelganger in front of me where the media sits. I mean it looked like this guy was intentionally going for the look. Suit, glasses, hair, all of it.

This is why I am torn on Bucci. I love his passion for college hockey but I can't stand his shtick. Grow up at some point dude! I also can't stand that he has to interject and let everyone know when a player will be signing a pro contract. "Here comes Logan Cooley...he will sign with the Coyotes right here on the ice tonight if the Gophers lose". Let the situation breathe.

Watching Ohio State-Harvard and love this booth with Bucci and Colby. Yes, I'm biased regarding Colby, but I always learn something when he does color. This is by far the best booth so far.

Western Michigan is no longer the worst team in the tournament. Must be the completely phony/fabricated/disingenuous "no athletic scholarships" claim holding Harvard back.
