Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

NHL Draft this coming weekend/Friday and Saturday...will be interesting to see who selects Devin Shore and if he comes to Maine this fall or heads to Canada to play Major Jr. - - Some have him pegged as a 2nd round pick between 36th and 57th.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

He might better take it down to Grant in Florida, so the two of them could tip an adult beverage together, and talk about old times.

I root like Hell for Penner, but I have to opine that he's been in the right spot at the right time, over and over again... That set of circumstances got him from complete obscurity to Maine, and from Maine to Anaheim, from there to a huge contract with Edmonton that no other team would have tendered, and then to LA via a trade, while having his name embossed on the Cup twice in the process.

God bless him, he must be doing something right!

Yeah I remember the days of watching him Getzlaf and Corey Perry on the same line in Portland. They were dominant. I think they led the AHL in scoring as a line and only played in like 1/3 of the games that season.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

aren't the public and private schools around Amherst Mass better than the ones in Bangor?
and the cost of living is not much higher, and I am sure that the head coaching positions at D1 schools out there pay much, much more than the ones in Orono...
I wonder if there are any openings out in Amherst... especially where it is OK to make the tournament every 7 years or so...
heck, seems like a dream job ...
gosh, I wonder if ....

Do you think UMass makes a pitch at Jim Montgomery..?

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

There may not be a game in Portland. Does anyone know if the construction (renovation) schedule has been released yet?

Supposed to be done by the time the Pirates start, so shouldn't be an issue.

I do not know that Jimmy has school age kids who would benefit from the Amerst school system... so, maybe UMass would be better off making a pitch at someone with young children

oh please oh please...

Maine Sports Info = Dumb and Dumber.

Let's not throw the SIDs under the bus here. It seems to me they are understaffed. The athletics directory online shows four TBA positions (they have been TBA for a while now) and Laura Reed is listed as Assistant Athletic Director for Public Relations, and is the contact person for: men's ice hockey, baseball, women's soccer and women's ice hockey. Contrast that with UHN, where Tom Wilkins handles Men's Ice Hockey and nothing else. And they have an administrative assistant to help him.

UHN has a small army compared to Maine's staff.

I'd be interested in seeing how athletic budgets contrast throughout Hockey East - especially considering the cloud of black smoke surrounding UMass with regards to a lack of institutional support.

Devin Shore picked at the end of the 2nd Round(61st player taken)by the Dallas Stars....Comments by MacKenzie of TSN...could be a tug of war for Shore between the Barrie Colts/Major Canadien Jr. & the University of Maine Black Bears/NCAA Hockey East.

Based on the twitter conversations between Shore and the current players, he may as well already be part of the team.

No one commented on Jim Montgomery (and Kevin Sneddon) getting face time at the draft last night? Or did people just not recognize him without hair? :D

ETA: Maine had another incoming freshman drafted. Ben Hutton was selected by Vancouver in the 5th round.

So this Shore kid is the real deal, eh? 20 goals type of player or what?

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

The season ticket renewals will be mailed on June 29th. The ticket office didn't know when the schedule would be released.

I don't expect 20 goals from him,but with that said he should score some goals to add to his play-making skills...he looks to be a good setup man.

Maybe 12-20-32? I would love to see him and Diamond on a line together.

Its very encouraging to see Hutton go in the fifth round. I think Maine is going to have a decent group of defenseman next year. Maybe not spectacular but I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by them.
