Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

how many people listened to each of the different type of Maine games?
do you think that more than a couple thousand tuned in to a football game? (I would bet it is in the hundreds, but i have NO idea)

I can believe that maybe 5,000 tuned in to away hockey games, but other than that, don't you suppose that it was red sox and patriot games that sold ads?
I'll bet more listen to football than hockey

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I would guess hockey, at least if you average the number of listeners over the past 20 years or so, but reasonable minds can differ.

All I want to know is where can I find Maine webcasts this coming season?

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I wonder if Penner will bring the Cup up to Maine? After all if it wasn't for Grant...blah blah blah. ;)

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

The schedule hasn't officially been released yet, but piecing together what's in the schedule thread and things I've heard through the grapevine, it should look like this:

F 10/12 v Notre Dame (Kansas City)
S 10/13 v Army/UNO (Kansas City)
F 10/19 St Lawrence
S 10/20 St Lawrence (Homecoming Weekend)
F 10/26 @ Providence
S 10/27 @ Providence
Su 11/4 New Hampshire
F 11/9 @ Lowell
S 11/10 @ Lowell
F 11/16 Massachusetts*
Su 11/18 Boston College*
11/24 or 12/15 Quinnipiac/U-18 (Portland)*
F 12/7 @ Vermont*
Su 12/9 @ Boston University*
F 12/28 Duluth (Estero)
S 12/29 Ferris or Cornell (Estero)
F 1/4 Mercyhurst
S 1/5 Mercyhurst
F 1/11 @ Northeastern*
S 1/12 @ Merrimack
F 1/18 Merrimack
S 1/19 Merrimack
F 1/25 @ Boston College*
S 1/26 @ Boston College*
F 2/1 Providence
Su 2/3 Lowell (This is Super Bowl Sunday, so expect the 7PM time to change)
F 2/8 Vermont*
S 2/9 Vermont*
F 2/15 Boston University*
S 2/16 Boston University*
F 2/22 @ Massachusetts*
S 2/23 @ Massachusetts*
F 3/1 Northeastern*
S 3/2 Northeastern*
F 3/8 @ New Hampshire
S 3/9 @ New Hampshire

BC, BU, UMA and Vermont have not released their schedules yet, and Northeastern is still tentative. Games without a * are official. Nice to see that the hockey team will finally be home on Homecoming.

Matt Mangene and Mark Anthoine are taking part in a charity game (and more) in Saco, Maine for the Michael T. Goulet Traumatic Brain Injury & Epilepsy Foundation (Our mission is to raise awareness for prevention and improve the lives of patients and families affected by Traumatic Brain Injury & Epilepsy Disorders. We provide funding for education and research towards prevention, treatment methods, and effectiveness, to organizations and local individuals for scholarship and assistance.) on 6/24 - http://www.michaelgouletfoundation.org/faceoff2012.html

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Unless they don't play BU, Harvard can't play in Portland. The only ECAC team with a game still available (assuming the first sentence) is Quinnipiac.

All the buzz in the schedule thread has been about Harvard. Assuming it is Quinnipiac, and going with what Maine Event posted about Maine opening with them, the only date available is Saturday 10/6. That would mean the Portland game would be the U-18 team. Or Maine plays the Q in Portland 11/25 or 12/15.

The only league opponent they could play in Portland is BC, and as much as I would love that, it's not going to happen.

It hasn't happened in 8 years, so I agree that it is unlikely. That does not eliminate the realm of possibility, though.

BTW, good enough sources to call this tentative? You don't have to say who, but I know I started making some guesses on the schedules thread and it looks like most of this fits (not to mention your schedule is typically the same in a two-year period, but with the locations reversed).

The only games I'm unsure about are @BU, @UVM and with BC. And obviously the Portland game, which will either be Q or US U-18. The rest is pretty solid.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

At least play a game that counts in Portland.

I mentioned on the other thread that a league game vs. Providence was played in Portland in the 2004-05 season. Two games were played in Portland that year; the other game was vs. the USA U-18 squad.

I'm hoping for Quinnipiac. BC would be nice, but the University isn't letting that gate get away. No other team is available. The other alternative is not to even play a game in Portland and hold all home games in Orono.

ETA: They COULD do what we did back in the early 90's and have game 1 vs BU or UVM in Portland and game 2 in Orono. We did that with Kent State back then. But that would be some wild scheduling...

Well, you have one more NC game remaining. I'm not sure how "sure" your source was about Harvard/Quinnipiac, but Q's the only one with a game left, and that's assuming you don't wish to fill it with Atlantic Hockey (like when you played Mercyhurst in Portland, but I can't remember what year, I want to say 2006-07... 07-08 was definitely my team since I was there, and 05-06 I think was Brown)

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I first heard a while back that Quinnipiac was playing @ Maine on October 6th...but if not at Orono then I would think they would fit in @ Portland....date tba..?

He might better take it down to Grant in Florida, so the two of them could tip an adult beverage together, and talk about old times.

I root like Hell for Penner, but I have to opine that he's been in the right spot at the right time, over and over again... That set of circumstances got him from complete obscurity to Maine, and from Maine to Anaheim, from there to a huge contract with Edmonton that no other team would have tendered, and then to LA via a trade, while having his name embossed on the Cup twice in the process.

God bless him, he must be doing something right!

Penner has the talent to be a good player, his draw-back is he is lazy and needs someone to kick his butt to keep him in gear...his big paydays are over...he's a free Agent and the Kings will take him back but not at $4.5 mil.....he'll be lucky to get half that @ LA....but there maybe a team outside of LA that may offer him $3 mil plus deal and for 2-3 years.....one thing 4sure is he can be considered a Playoff type player...maybe the long regular season boors him and then when the Playoffs come around he figures it out....plus he may like playing on the PARTY LINE: Richards/Carter.....
