Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I am pretty sure the only cup Tampa won was in 03-04, with all the Catamounts, but no Black Bears.
Clark was with the Avalanche and Lundin was a freshman at Main

and come on... Penner counts, he played 4 more games for Maine than Clark did... and won it with the Ducks
Tortorella was the Coach @ TB that year.

Right; didn't mean to leave him out. And he was just the one goal short of a Gordie Howe hat trick tonight. :p

I'm thinking that LA is going to steamroll Phoenix. Kinda nice to see Quick playing so well at this level; God knows Maine used to struggle to solve him.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Dan Sullivan is the only Hockey East player (male or female) to be recognized as Academic All-District. Honor for him; wouldn't use as a bash on the other teams' players as I think it is more on their SIDs than the players that no one else appears. Did a quick search and Boston College, Boston University and Merrimack had 0 athletes listed. I'm guessing doing that for the other 6 teams would get the same result.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he had a perfect GPA. Quite an achievement, especially for a student athlete.

He has had some 4.0 semesters, not sure if they've all been perfect, smart and dedicated guy.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Hello Maine folks! I'll be visiting your state for the first time in September. I'll be flying into Portland, Hanging out there a day, a day in Bangor, a couple days camping in Arcadia then an afternoon/evening in Portland. My sister recently moved to Presque Isle, but she hasn't spent much time in the places listed above.

Any recommendations on places to eat, things to see, etc? Thanks!

Its Acadia, not Arcadia. Go to Pats Pizza in Orono if you want what Maine hockey fans eat before and after games. I'd go to Schodic Point which is part of the Acadia Nat'l Park, slightly less traveled compared to the parts on MDI. Lobster at Trenton Lobster pound would be good, its at the entrance to Mount Desert Island.

It's Schoodic, not Schodic. :D And I completely agree with that. Schoodic was one of my dad's favorite places. As for Pat's - a must, but don't stop at any other Pat's Pizza in the state. They were franchised, and there is absolutely no consistency between the locations.

I've left you a note in rep, cfA. I'm pretty plugged in to the restaurant scene in Portland (which is one of the best in the country), but don't want to completely derail this thread. Shoot me a note, I'll hook you up.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Hey guys, how about Penner sending the Kings to the SCF with that tricky OT goal tonight? Add on an assist and a big block late in the third, and he had a huge game.

He hasn't gotten a ton of minutes, but he's had effective ones... I wonder if Suter is trying to keep him fresh, for just that reason.

I just got home from another great week in Portland, which might well be the most fun 50K-population town in the country. If I had only 4 days to spend in Maine I'd definitely skip the trip to Bangor for an additional day there. (Check out the Portland Head Light, drink at Gritty's, take a run around Back Cove, eat at any of a large number of great places... You can't miss.)

Best small city in the USA, if you ask me.

That overtime just had some ridiculous stuff going on. Officiating was a shtshow. Missed a puck being cleared into the crowd (dumbest rule I've ever heard of) after they waived off icing and allowed the play to continue with a goalie with no glove after LA ripped Smith's glove off while he had frozen the puck on the ice... I mean, I think the Brown hit on Roszival wasn't that big of a deal and was pretty legit but that obviously gets thrown into the bag as well as officiating that some wouldn't be happy with. It looked like Bennedetto and Bunyon out there. If Bertagna says HE refs are NHL caliber he might be right!

Then after the injury stoppage, Penner scores on the next drop of the puck just seconds later.

Either way, LA was a better team and deserved to win.

Why would one go to Bangor anyway? Hollywood Slots? State Fair?

Nice job by you guys a few pages back talking about Schoodic/Winter Harbor. Planning on hitting it up in a few weeks, as always.
