Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

The winter jacket thing is ridiculous if true.
Fortunately, it's not.

and I hope all the readers got the ironic "winter jacket" comment a true statement, but meant to point out the gaps that exist in current program and administration

#notmeantasafactualstatement

So rather than point at something that actually makes Tim look bad (like that disgusting interview he did with Channel 5 last winter) it's so much easier just to make **** up and hope no one calls you on it. Kudos!

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I'm not sold on anything but I haven't seen Morris play. Sully is the #1 going into Sept, after that we'll see. I heard goods thing about Marty, hasn't panned out. I've heard good things about MAtt but until I see him play I don't know.
I think we are all in the same boat,we want a winning team at UM...and for that this season...the Goaltending will be key either with one(Sullivan)or with one of these two(Ouellette & Morris) forming at Tandem to make Maine season click.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Wait - what's the story of the WABI interview?

Controversy in June?

edit: never mind. just noticed "last winter" in Priceless's post.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Rushed or not he so far isn't a D1 goalie and with the coaching situation I doubt he is going to be. Give him some time with Grant and he probably would be but.......
Pfft... the kid don't need coaching, he needs a winter jacket.
You'd be amazed how great the Black Bears would be if they had a winter jacket (to match their designer sneakers... excellent winter foot wear). ;) :p

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

The sad fact is that the team has not had a real jacket for the last couple of years, fleece yes, but not something you can walk around in during a new England winter. Ask the team.....

I have talked to players. They say you're full of it. I have no idea what you think qualifies as a winter jacket, but I was with the team for two years and we were never issued anything remotely like this mysterious winter coat you mention. We received track suits/windbreakers, sweatsuits, polo shirts and the like but not a winter jacket. We wore our own jackets around campus and either the pullover or the windbreaker on road trips. The only Maine jackets I have are the one I purchased in the University Bookstore and my "M" jacket issued to people who earned a varsity letter.

I really don't get this fascination with articles of clothing. If you want to criticize Tim's coaching/alumni relations/booster relations etc, no one in this forum is going to stop you. Most will join the chorus. But don't make crap up to make it seem worse than it is.

Fortunately, it's not.

Thank you for clearing it up. My point stands on the funding though. The state could and should do a lot better.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Maine finally released its schedule. Unfortunately, it was for Women's Soccer.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

:pWas it uphill both ways to the rink for you when you were with the team??? did they even play indoors???....was the horse drawn logging sled that took you to Boston for away games a bumpy ride.... did you have pucks or play with frozen horse turds...Lord knows you have enough with all the ones you post here.....

That bit was already done, and a lot better than this pathetic effort.

We were housed in a circus tent down by Alpha Gamma Rho and had to scrounge for kindling to keep warm. It was a two-mile hike uphill to get to the rink, and, because of the tilt of the earth in the evening, a three-mile hike uphill after practice to get back. And we didn't have store-bought pucks. We had to fashion them out of smashed beer cans wrapped in electrical tape and then frozen. We didn't have any fancy-schmancy helmets either. We made them ourselves out of old pickle buckets with coat hangers for cages. We were lucky if our skates matched. Some guys had to use figure skates with the picks filed off.

And stay off the lawn!!!

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

The building committee is meeting on Wednesday to finalize plans for the renovation and prepare for planning board approval from the City of Portland. It should be seamless and painless because of all the behind scene work that's been ongoing. Cianbro is slated to begin construction on Phase I on Aug. 1 or short thereafter with a completion date Nov. 1st. The Pirates will be out of the arena until that time. Once they return in Nov Phase II will begin with completion expected around April and once the Pirates' season is finished the CCCC will be closed until the project is done which is expected to be Oct. 2013.

If UMaine wants to play in Portland there should be a date avail.

The Portland date has been set....early January.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Mercyhurst

They play a series with Mercyhurst on 1/4 and 1/5. Mercyhurst lists both games as being in Orono. The NC game is believed to be Quinnipiac but the only January weekend dates both teams have available at the moment is 1/25 and 1/26 and that is reserved tentatively for @ Boston College. Maine could play a Tuesday game in Portland, but that doesn't make a lot of sense. It still seems like Maine v Quinnipiac @ Portland would be 11/24, 11/25 or 12/15. Or the game can still be Mercyhurst on 1/4 in Portland and 1/5 in Orono (or vice versa) like we did with Kent State in 1991. Then the NC game with Quinnipiac would be in Orono.

ETA: Got your email RATIBB; tried to reply but the email you registered with doesn't seem to be active. Good to hear Maine is going the "Kent State" route...next step is to get a league game in Portland!

Mike Lundin signs with Ottawa today.

Lundin 'thrilled' to get fresh start with Senators
Veteran blueliner inks one-year deal in Ottawa, says he's recovered from injury woes

Mike Lundin is eager for a new beginning in Ottawa.

The veteran blueliner, who was plagued by back troubles during a lost season with the Minnesota Wild in 2011-12, inked a one-year free-agent deal with the Senators today. Though he's leaving his home state, Lundin says he's "thrilled" to head north of the border for the first time in his five-year National Hockey League career.

"It wasn’t the greatest year for me last year," said Lundin, a 27-year-old native of Burnsville, Minn. "With the injuries and everything, it didn’t work out. But I’m healed up and I know that my best hockey is ahead of me. I’m thrilled at the opportunity and that Ottawa was interested in me and I’m excited to come and play with a Canadian team with potential. After the season they had last year, they’re only looking to get better."

Lundin only saw 17 games' worth of action with the Wild season. He missed the first 23 games of the 2011-12 campaign with a back injury and later sat out the final 25 games with a sports hernia. Off-season surgery on March 15 repaired both a fracture in his back and the hernia, which Lundin said doctors believe were related ailments.

"Everything been great since then," he said. "I've been working out and training hard to be back in top shape."

Prior to last season, Lundin spent the previous four years with the Tampa Bay Lightning, totalling four goals and 29 assists in 224 games. He played all 18 playoff games for the Bolts during their drive to the Eastern Conference final in 2010-11.

In Lundin, the Senators are getting a defenceman with a stay-at-home reputation.

"I’m not a big guy, but I’m more of a defensive specialist," said the 6-2, 191-pound Lundin. "I’m not flashy — you probably won’t notice a lot of me out there — but hopefully, I’m just doing my job and staying kind of quiet. Hopefully, I can have the chance to skate against some other teams’ top lines and use my speed and good stick and be able to help control other teams’ offences.

"I'm still working on getting my point production, my offensive work in the NHL up. I know I have it in my game and haven’t necessarily shown it yet. Hopefully, I’m there to contribute (in that way), too."

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Good news everyone: The new coach at UMass is NOT Jim Montgomery...your dream remains alive!

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Just saw a few minutes ago on this uscho.com site that Pecknold may not be in line for the UMass job...????

Schedule. Meh. No Portland game. Non-conference in the Alfond is Quinnipiac (1), St. Lawrence (2), Mercyhurst (2). Only one home against BC/UNH.

The Ice-Breaker and Estero are nice to get neutral games against good teams (assuming Maine avoids Army in Omaha), but that is one underwhelming home slate of games.
