Maine - the Golfing Season

http://www.goblackbears.com/sports/m-hockey/2012-13/schedule

Schedule. Meh. No Portland game. Non-conference in the Alfond is Quinnipiac (1), St. Lawrence (2), Mercyhurst (2). Only one home against BC/UNH.

The Ice-Breaker and Estero are nice to get neutral games against good teams (assuming Maine avoids Army in Omaha), but that is one underwhelming home slate of games.

I have mixed feelings on it. It would be nice to have one series against a big time program but other than that it's okay. I think some of the non-conference games will be a good chance to give some of the younger guys a chance. I'm glad the BU, UNH, and BC series are spread out. Strange one playing Merrimack three times in a row.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Has either Dunn or Corbett been painted in the last 12 years?
the wood is rotting where the paint no longer protects it.

I wonder whether there are "powers" that prevent ATO or circle K from volunteering to paint what needs painting.

however, the jackets are not really a university funding issue, they are a boosters issue.
TImmy has alientated most of the donors with his attitude "why should I care about the many people who donate $50 a year when I can have dinner and schmooze tens of thousands out of a few".

because the many are the programs' backbone and they used to feel ownership in the team.... now people care a lot less.
Merrimack has a few big donors, but very few little donors who feel ownership.

broken record, I know

I'm pretty sure the union would have a cow if students were volunteering to paint academic buildings (I assume it is OK if they get hired by facilities as summer workers). When I was a student one of my professors (new to the department) had a whiteboard he was waiting for facilities to come install. Finally he asked someone if he could just do it himself. The guy said something like "If you hang that, I'm going to walk by here and see it and know that we [facilities] didn't do it. I'll take it down, put it back up, and charge your department for the time"

The best news from the schedule is that the hockey team will actually play home games on Homecoming! Amazing!

It hasn't been that long since they played on homecoming...last time was in 2009 against Michigan State I believe.

maybe he shouldda just hung it himself... as long as the facilities guy put it back up at the same time he took it down the professor would still benefit from the extra time he had the board up.

and it is interesting you would put it like that.

When I walked by Dunn and Corbett, I thought the same thing, only in different terms.... I thought "the unions are ruining America"

Are any of the players on this team's roster going to any NHL rookie camps ?

Is Marty going back to camp ?

When I was at Maine I took a seminar in Stevens Hall with Dr. Westphal (then the system chancellor). He walked in, looked at the water-damaged, paint-pealing ceiling and said "I wonder if they put me in one of the worst rooms to make a point about maintenance money?" We all kind of looked at each other until one girl spoke up with "Um, this is probably the best room the liberal arts college has..."

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

beattie, anthoine, and rutt (along with anthoine's brother) are playing in my men's league this summer... should be interesting... that said, it's a bit disturbing to me that they are not doing whatever possible to play against stiffer competition in the off-season...

Wil Merchant, incoming recruit is heading to Minnesota Wilds development camp next week. Obviously Devin Shore and Ben Hutton will be at Dallas' and Vancouver's respectfully

Bob Corkum is an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Czech Republic and Slovakia. Tyler Walsh has also been selected as the team's video coach.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Very nice schedule. Five teams in the nonleague schedule had 19 or more wins last year.

That's pretty cool news. Certainly Corkum is a great representative of USA Hockey and I'm glad Tyler is getting recognized for his knowledge and expertise too on the national level.

Josh Kummins reports that Jim Montgomert has signed a two-year extension with the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

A new feature this year with the season ticket application is online renewal. I went to the link but the renewal form is not yet available. Probably next week .

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Is the October 6th game against Quinnipiac an exhibition game?

I think the only exhibition game is with UNB, however the Ice Breaker Tournamet are exempt games and don't count against the schedule.
