Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I agree the system is the problem. Coaches should be allowed to ink up deals for 4 years, so kids know (1) when they're going to be brought in, (2) how much money they'll get for 4 years (since that's the critical part).

Surest way to get rid of early commitments, and the renegging on both ends that now seems more prevalent.

Also will force programs to bring kids in on time, rather than warehousing them, knowing they won't be swept up by another program.

Will also help recruiting against Ontario/Major Junior, which uses the lack of commitment and the warehousing against the NCAA.

Did you notice how Kentucky basketball recruit Brandin Knight signed a "Financial Aid Offer" instead of a national letter of intent? The only stipulation for him is that if he enrolls at another SEC school he can't receive a grant-in-aid from that school for two years.

According to Heisenberg, and not a surprise, Higgins has now been moved to 2011.

So next year at forward we are looking at:

Anthoine
Amestoy
Swavely
Corkum

on D

O'Connor

and in net

Ouelette

I will double check on that...not saying Heisenberg is wrong. He could use another year in the USHL but I believe Higgins told me he signed a LOI for the 2010 season.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Higgins confimed he will be coming in 2011.

This is probably in everyone's best interest. We aren't desperate for forwards, especially if they aren't ready. Also as a '92, he still has time and if this season is any indication, he could certainly use it. Hopefully he'll use this to his advantage and be ready to go in 2011.

Sorry, I misread and thought it said he would be coming next fall.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Yeah, but those guys couldn't play. Can't say that that they'd be worth a roster spot on this team.

speaking of players getting bounced, does anyone think anyone on this current team will get bounced to make room for the incoming freshman?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

i agree, i think soloman will start the year as the 4th line vet, assuming swallow's role on the team, but if he doesn't play well he will be replaced quickly and probably not be back for the next season

Why! They have room for all of them? They were incredibly thin this year and could use an extra forward and d-man. Solomon has been a grinding defensive forward who certainly can play a role.

Thats basically what he told me that Whitehead and Higgins agreed another year in USHL will help his development

OK, I have to be a complete dink, but I can't let this go....

The 4th line vet?? What does that even mean?? I don't care what year you are....my ideal 4th liners are guys who can provide physical energy, or are tremendously intelligent defensive forwards (i.e. Andersson) so you can play matchups.

If by assuming Swallow's role you mean playing terribly and having no real impact on our offense or defense....then yea....I bet he could fill that "role" of being a warm body just fine. I mean, yea, Timbo put Swallow out on the PK once in a while...but hey, out of curiosity, how good was our PK this year?

What do you even mean by veteran? The guys played 42 career games and scored 1 whole goal. Shemansky has played 38 career games....almost the same amount....is he under consideration for that prestigious 4th line vet role?

The guy was a late invitee who isn't owed any playing time. Regardless of how the lines shuffle you can bet that some combination of...

House/Flynn/Gus makes up line 1
Spence/Joey/Dee makes up line 2
Shemansky/Mangene/Leidermarrk or Anthoine makes up line 3

Andersson is the clever, intelligent, D-minded mainstay on line 4....joining him will be whichever of those 3rd line guys doesn't stay there....

And with them, I would much rather try
--Corkum....heart kid, power forward frame, goal scorer, would love to see what he has in him since his injury
--Beattie.....kids going to heat up offensively as he progresses. He has the foundation.
--Swavely.....#2 in scoring in the EJHL this year. Coachable kid. Lets get his feet wet early
--Amestoy.....early reports remind me a lot of Shemansky and Mangene. Another quick footed, undersized but fearless and tenacious guy who loves to grind the corners.

ALLLLL before Soloman.

Soloman is good at.....errr.....blocking shots.....and he hurts himself every other time he does. Awesome.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Maine's in pretty good shape re:their forwards,IMO.This group was very good this year, and might be great next year.Maine has been to FF's with lesser forwards, for sure.I liked Soloman's nuts-yes,blocking shots-but he has no wheels, and isn't a difference-maker type,no matter how you slice it.

What Maine needs to get back in the mix is for Darling to get it together, and for Oullette to share time with him effectively...And maybe a little help from the D from time to time.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Corkum's a power forward? His father certainly wuz but I thot lil Corkum was of a much slighter build?

Last check, I thought he clocked in between 6'1'' and 6'2'' and was getting his weight up between 190-200.

I would bet by his junior year, he'll develop into a power role.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I think it would be good to keep Mangene, Diamond, and Shemansky together.

Part of me agrees, but Shemansky and Diamond both seem to be developing into similar 'finishers'....so unless they were on line together with Gus, or another savvy set up man....I think they'll be better suited broken up.
