Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Man oh man...

Way to bring back the haunting names of more
recruitment failures.

Dee was an NHL draftee before we even got him. Just because he's not dramatically underachieving anymore doesn't make him a decent analogy to a late invitee, non scholarship walk on who isn't really working out. Obviously scouts saw some kind of raw potential in Dee for Edmonton to take a stab at him and his final year before Maine and his first two here....his stock plummeted. He had raw skill but obviously had to work a little bit harder. He is in no way analogous to Kyle Soloman.

And the fact that you had swavely as a third liner...with no mention of anthoine in your top 14 names to crack the lineup tells me you're not grasping who is coming in with performance expectations.

If his play translates to the NCAA...I'll be ****ed if I see soloman in the lineup over anthoine, corkum, or Beattie.

I think the point that he was a "late addition, walk on" and still around despite injuries makes my point that they see something in him and he will play, if wasnt going to play they'd drop him and let the younger guys play. As for swavely over anthoine, anthoine should be a good player, and i referenced other freshman getting a shot on the 4th line. although he could also compete for the third line. i think he is the best forward other than swavely, many may not agree with me and as i haven't seen either play i am relying on what i read, and despite swavely playing in a lower league the type of player he is said to be makes me more interested in him than anthoine.

and to the previous poster i agree that brice o'connor is going to come in strong and make an impact

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Besides, the experience of Soloman isn't really needed on 4th line since it will include 'vets' like Andersson, Leidermark, or Beattie.

i kinda think that Solomon brings a little more to the table than Beattie does.

If any of you saw what Kyle got in the groin at Lowell or in the Neck at Merrimack, you might be life long Solomon fans, as I am sure I am.
that kid has guts!

Agreed. I was there. Poor guy was writhing on the ice in pure agony, looked like he got shot. And if i remember correctly, the refs didnt blow the whistle immediately either. Heard a rumor afterwards that that shot inverted his cup. That's the definition of sacrificing yourself.

Saw them both, and there's no doubt that the kid has a set.

Well, I really hope those two shots were going to go into the net had they not been blocked then.

There is a line between courage and stupidity.

What did you do this season?
Well, I blocked two shots and missed the rest of the season because of it...

Again, awesome.

While I am ALL for the lunchpail work ethic players...there's part of me that doesn't disagree with Reggie Bush when he talked about the running backs that ALWAYS grind for that extra yard and eventually end up tearing their ACL because of it. It's awesome to bring all your effort....but if its to the point where you're going to jeopardize your health....whats the point? Is that 1 extra yard going to be worth missing the rest of the season?

Maybe I won't have to worry about my opinion of him. He'll start the year....dive neck first in front of a couple shots and he'll be on the shelf again. But hey...at least he's courageous! ;)

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Wow. Another insanely stupid post from gomaine24. Shocking.

We gotta get him and jcarter together when Maine/UVM play each other. Keymaster/Gatekeeper kind of stuff.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I heard he was caught running streetcars in Boston...no wait, its goalies that get run by others....must have been PEaves in the car confusing a streetcar for a goalie:D

Hey, if you're not willing to sacrifice your nutz to prevent a shot on goal, what kind of a man are ya? :o

what's the point? seriously? winning. that's the point. why do they push for that one yard? because you don't give up because you think you know the outcome... "oh, it might go wide, i'll let it go," meanwhile, the guy camped out in front gets a stick on it, or collects a rebound and puts it in the back of the net...

if you're not willing to risk it all, you probably should be looking for a different line of work... it's the same reason players are lauded in hockey for taking a hit to make a play...

and as for how important one yard can be, ask andre dyson about the difference one yard would ave made, and why you always try to get that one extra yard. i'm not saying he didn't try for the extra yard, but i bet if you asked him, he'd want nothing more than to have stayed on his feet just a bit longer... of course, if all of his teammates weren't fighting for the extra yard, he probably would have been down at the 10...

Did you read the thing right before it?? I said "Whats the point..." to...

'if its going to jeopardize your health'

To say...seriously? winning. that's the point- To THAT is saying that you have no problem if any of our guys go down with career detrementing injuries just so long as it benefited the team that game. What do you suppose their mothers would say to that?!

There's a difference between skating hard and finishing your man... and being an idiot on the ice.

Guys other than Soloman blocked shots, too....but he's the only one who ends up just short of the E.R. every other time he does.

And yet....its the only legitimate redeeming quality people can muster up to defend his playing time....am I seriously the only one seeing the disconnect here?

No, I'm sure they would have just run a different play.

If its a do or die play for the Superbowl, why would you throw it to your receiver on a slant outside of the 10 yard line?...

In fact....most people wonder why they didn't make the throw to the endzone on this play to begin with.

The guy I was quoting just won a superbowl, though, so what does he know about success.

Care to elaborate, Nick? I would expect you of all people to agree with me on this one...

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

The guy I was quoting just won a superbowl, though, so what does he know about success.

he's also the same guy that is/was investigated for ncaa violations while in college... so, you're citing a guy who violated ncaa rules while in college that openly admits to giving up on plays because it's in his best interest and not the team's... sorry, you didn't quite sell me on that one... and for what it's worth, talent does not equal heart or pride... and for the record, i think bushhas a ton of talent, just perplexed as to why bell and thomas are arguably as if not more effective

and re: the titans play... i'm fairly certain the coaching staff made the play call not anyone on the field... it's up to the players to execute it... and i bet everyone of the guys on the titans side would have done anything to get that extra yard...

but what do i know, i'm not a professional athlete, i couldn't possibly have any insight on what it means to compete...

Right, but where is the line between heart and pride....and plain absurdity. At what point does someone stop saying "Boy, he's really leaving it all on the ice" and start saying "Wow, he's playing very recklessly"??

Maybe Bush isn't the ideal role model for my overall point on Soloman...but if 'courage' is all he brings to the table, and he gets injured every third game he actually plays for said courage, and ends up missing half the season over it...I mean, I don't get his appeal to people? Should we just carry a roster of 37 and tell everyone to dive balls first in front of every shot they can? Anyone want Gustav diving head first in front of a blueliner's slapshot?

There are players who play much more "balls to the wall" than he does....and they do 'the little things' too....and they don't spend half the season on the shelf.

That depends, in the national championship, then yes, against PC in the regular season, maybe or maybe not

Some guys get hurt, its the nature of the game. Maybe he should learn to protect himself when blocking a shot?

I think you're being kind of hard on a guy who at the very least did his best to help his team win. I've seen more talented guys who appeared to do less than there best in watching their team lose

Yea, well, believe it or not (the way I'm ranting)....I don't have it out for the guy. It just boggles my mind to hear so many people going to bat for him.

I'd rather have a forward who blocks 2 shots per game and has a better chance of scoring himself than someone who is going to block 4 shots and brings nothing to the table in the offensive zone.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Yep... continuously posting stupid stuff to defend stupid things he originally said... You guys got yourself a Maine version of jcarter, here.

Good luck with that.
