Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I am a Maine fan, have nothing what so ever to do with the player in question and it is annoying that a player of his caliber was driven away by TW. He would have been a great addition to the Maine hockey program and is far superior to several of the F's they have coming in...

I don't agree with everything you say in these threads, but I will say, yes....I was, and still am pretty bummed he's not coming our way. He could have really been a strong figure in next years class.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I might be in the minority but I still haven't given up on Sirman. He showed flashes of brilliance (though there were also times where I felt we might've been just as well off with me in net). At the UMass series over spring break it seemed to me that he got beat 5-hole a lot. If Darling is indeed done, IMO we would be rotating Sirman and Ouellette until someone steps up and takes it.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

It takes 5 of you to say the same thing? ...

You've said the same thing hundreds of times since Arnold was dropped. So stop whining because people want you to shut the heck up about Arnold. He's gone, he isn't coming, we get it

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Another goalie? Does this mean Darling's done for good?

I like this quote
. "I have coached several big time goaltenders in the past like Ben Bishop, Al Montoya, Dave McKee, Brandon Crawford-West, Ron Vogel, and Sullivan is right there with that group."

It wouldn't be shocking if he was gone, rumors abound and have been since the incident happened. 2 freshman goalies doesn't bode well at the beginning of the season though?

Well, he's done the improbable...he put Wally and me on the same side of an argument. :p

All we need is dtp to come in here and agree and Hell would have officially frozen over. :D

He has to be right? I mean they can't start the season with four scholarship goalies? Darling, Sullivan, Oulette and Sirman? It's not as if one of them is Seeley caliber. All four seem more highly recruited than Wilson.

Not saying they'll be better, but I can't ever remember Maine having 3 "name" goalie recruits at once, much less four?

I love that quote too. Watching the goaltending in the league the last couple years has made me appreciate Bishop a lot more. :D

I bet Whitehead is getting creative with the scholarship money. I doubt they're all getting free rides.

Greg Hirsch was supposed to be a name goalie, but he didn't pan out that way. The 93 team would have had Snow, Dunham and Hirschy as a freshman and heir apparent. He has made a pretty good coach, though.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Not me, I love watching the goalies, he drove me crazy.

Same here, but I mean I used to think his save percentage of 903 wasn't good enough and Darling's tossing up an 899 and being treated like he's the difference between NCAAs and no NCAAs.

Bishop, fifth best in the league his soph. year, may have been #1 this past year.

Schneider, Curry, Quick, Regan...I don't think anybody around these days if up to snuff with that class.

Darling does have a lot of talent, and if he works hard he'll probably be better than the other three at the start of the season, assuming he returns. I think having one semi-experienced goalie would be good. I wouldn't be surprised to see him one of the best goalies in hockey east next year if he plays. I still have faith in him.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

You'll know it's a bad season for Maine if all four use up eligibility. Someone's definitely going to be on the outside looking in.

Sirman looked scared ****less when I saw him play. He's a 3rd stringer as far as I am concerned. This might be extra insurance and if Darling comes back someone will redshirt.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

The only thing I don't like is having two big goalies in the same class.

1993 is one thing.....but how'd you like to be in Lowell's shoes right now? Well, short of getting Derek Arnold.... ;)

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Youi don't like Dek either, but praise Bellamy. Go back and look at their respective senior season stats. Might surprise you.

What about them? Please tell me you're not referring to a numbers comparison.

I've got one side hollering at me that points aren't the only big way to measure a players impact *even though I never said it was*....and now I've got others critiqueing me for who I did consider more influential to the teams success, and they're using points to back it up.

I don't care if you disagree with me until the cows come home! What would be the point of a forum if everyone just AGREED on everything?? In fact, **** all over me for it....you won't hurt my feelings! :D But c'mon, pick a side of the fence and roll with it!

Good for Dek that he did what he did down the stretch (and I mean that sincerely, not being sarcastic), but all in all, he was a consistant contributer of some sort for about 3 months of his Maine career.

Bellamy was a pace setter, tone changer, and impact player whether he was scoring or not.... all 4 years.

BUT...just in case you were talking about numbers. Dek played on a team that had 8 20+ point scorers his senior year. Bellamy played on a team that had 1. Fair comparison? Bellamy was 3rd on the team in scoring that year, Dek was 7th.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I think that Jimmy Howard has done more to recruit goaltenders to UMaine over the past couple of months than anyone.......;)
