Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

I spoke with him today he was a Ferris State commit at one point...I probably wont have a story until early next week as I got swamped with working on another story today, and with weekend games coming up (Pirates, Black Bears, High School DIII), it will be early next week by the time the stop is up. Sorry for the delay.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Here's the story I was referring to...Not necessarily about Maine recruits but about the new junior league starting next year which could see Maine recruits in it.

Junior Hockey: USPHL team may be next Colisee tenant
Justin Pelletier, Sports Editor and Nathan Fournier, Staff Writer

A new, high-level junior hockey league appears likely to be to be the next full-time tenant of the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, and an announcement might come as soon as Monday.

A group of four Eastern Junior Hockey League teams recently announced the formation of a new league, the U.S. Premier Hockey League, to begin play in 2013, with a vision of operating in its first year as an eight-team league. The Portland Junior Pirates are in the mix to be one of the four teams in the second announced group, and would use the Lewiston facility as the team's home rink.

Just found out the reason Sam Wolfe was traded was because he was charged with shoplifting

Henke commits to Maine; Wolfe in hot water
By Nathan Fournier Published: 11th December 2012

Josh Henke needed a change of scenery.

The Trenton, Mich., native moved to the New Jersey Hitmen of the EJHL after spending last season with the Tri-City Storm and the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL in hopes of landing a Division I scholarship.

The move paid off as the 18-year-old committed to the University of Maine.

I hope Maine cuts ties with Wolfe. People who want something for nothing aren't going to find much joy in college athletics.
If he does not land in Maine he'll be somewhere's in D1 Hockey...if he can play, there's a place that will forgive and forget.

Could be or could be just kids being kids. A lot of 'em at one point or another in their lives figure they can get something for nothing and make that mistake. Even in college. Hell, look at the two hockey players from BC recently that stole some id's and credit cards and tried using them to their benefit. A lot of its just growing up I think.

So you never did any dumb things as a kid?

Everyone has, that's wasn't the point. There is a difference between doing something stupid and not being willing to work for something/feeling entitled. At 19 I would expect he would know the difference between right and wrong.

Doing dumb things as a kid is drinking underaged, being loud and obnoxious, being late for curfew, experimenting with marijuana as a high schooler. Wolfe has graduated high school and should know better than to steal. I can relate, as can most to the above thingsm i cannot relate to stealing.

I'm not even saying they should cut ties with him necessarily, but they better have serious confirmation that this was a one time blip on the radar and not a recurring theme.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Yes I agree stealing is a bit of an issue vs some other things kids may do as Irishfan85 says but I guess my question is why would this be something that should be put on these boards?? not sure but hope kid learns a tough lesson- maybe a blessing if Maine tells him no

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Whether it is fair or not, if you choose to play a Division I sport, you must take with that the consequence of notoriety and that things you do (both good and bad) will be published/commented on in newspapers, websites, blogs, message boards and social media. I'm not saying it is right, but it is what it is. Deal with it and don't do things to get yourself in trouble. His name was already in the newspaper for it. It's not like someone just posted info about Sam Wolfe that wasn't public knowledge.

If you think it's bad that this is on here, don't go to college football message boards. They analyze every Friday night game of their recruits or targeted recruits, they talk about personal info, wackjobs friend them on facebook, etc.

Why does Tim Whitehead feel entitled to $190K per year right now then?????

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Yeah in my mind taking $70 bucks work of clothes from some place named Schells isn't much more than fodder for some signs and message board taunting from rivals if this kid can play. Its not like he was armed or it was a full out heist. Dumb kid mistake, he'll pay the piper do some community service etc.

When is Tim Whitehead gonna do some community service? Certainly, he has been "stealing" from Maine taxpayers, students, fans and/or donors for quite some time...........

Hopefully after the season, but will they..? That is: Maine cutting there ties to TW and go in another direction: Rebuilding/Recruiting/changing the mindset @ UM towards a more positive outlook...not a good horizon for Maine...sadly the talk is of recruits off ice activities and the ever growing distain towards TW.

Steve Abbott preaches "character".......that's why he demanded that Cindy Blodgett cut loose a women's hoop player 2 years ago when she stole an ATM card and used it. What will Abbott do here? Will he be a hypocrite and allow Mr. Wolfe to keep his scholarship? When will ANYONE (media, administrators, large donors) face the music.........winter sports are 7-39-3 right now. Is this REALLY acceptable????

Question is will Abbott be around when his Contract ends this coming summer..? Will he leave and let the NEW AD address all that is happening at the U..? For Abbott to do anything in the TW Coaching Change if one was to happen,he would most likely be on board longer then his deal that expires in the summer...so if he gets a extension(Abbott)...does he exit TW..?
