Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Yes 3 is usually the norm, but Maine has 4 netminders on the Roster to date...like you said 3 is the norm,2 regulars and the practice goalie...

Doesn't Maine usually have 4? Two scholarship goalies, one walk on (door opener), and a practice goalie (since not all three goalies can make it to every practice). Chris Howat from Bangor High is going to be the 4th. So now we have three scholarship goalies, and a practice goalie.

Well at 8 posts I can see you are either a firestarter or nitwit. Dylan Gareau is headed to Maine, Landon Gareau signed with Brampton. Dylan's rights in the OHL are held by Barrie so this never made sense from the moment it was posted!

So for the helluvit rate the impact YOU think the incoming class will have Shore , Hutton, Lomborg(sp?), Morris............ just for a conversation starter..then we all write it down and make fun of each other next march....

Shore could and should be the best of the incoming...I think he plays from the get-go and adds some play making skills...the other forwards Lomberg could get some playing time as the season goes on and(imo)Merchant being the wildcard,he could surprise alot of people or he could have used a year in the USHL like Lomberg did...Swavely more or less will be a fringe player who gets his playing time come his Sophmore year....on the d-side look for Hutton to take a crack at playing on a regular basis after the season is a month old, don't count out Conner Riley at getting some playing time also,Williams is more or less in the same boat as Swavely,he'll see his time in year 2 of his career @ UMaine....and lastly Matt Morris, hard to say he had very good season at Dubuque his first season, but his second he was injured and didn't fare as well his 2nd season with Dubuque,I still "HOPE" he has something,he did play for Jim Montgomery and also got some Coaching/Netminding tips from Grant Standbrook...but with 3 goalies...Sullivan the most likely to get the nod at #1 and with Ouellette back, sadly a kid with alot of upside but just has not been focused enough to challenge Sullivan in the first two seasons at Maine...he seems to be content at being a #2...which is why I hope Morris comes in and turns some heads....so here's the first imo/laugh come next March....ok --- NEXT ---.

Well theres no turning back now Noah Zilbert suited up in Saint John's exhibition game last night. Again he wasnt a committed player but was looking at Maine

From what I heard Maine was a very strong option for him. Isn't this thread is about committed kids and potential recruits?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

It should be, but for some, there's a different agenda.

No "agenda" here.......just sick of the long list of players that have USED Maine to get their Junior deals completed.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Huge difference between looking at Maine and opting to play MJ vs committing and accepting a scholarship offer to Maine then bailing out of that for MJ. In terms of "using" Maine, the former is really no different than a recruit who looks at Maine then goes to some other school

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

You really can't blame a kid for leaving his options open until choosing the right one for him. There are numerous examples of schools and junior programs not fulfilling promises made to recruits. It's a business unfortunately and the kids really need to look out for and protect their interests.

Exactly

Zilbert never used Maine it was just an option just like Dylan Somerby chose BU over Maine and other Hockey East schools. Somerby didn't use Maine, it was an option he was interested in.

I was going to say BJ Salerno recorded an assist for Waterloo in their 5-3 victory over Norway's National U-20 team at the Junior Club World Cup in Russia today. But since Salerno is an Ottawa 67 draft pick so he's obviously just using Maine to get a better deal with the 67's, this update doesnt apply to this thread. {/sarcasm}

He just might!

Go ahead and get excited over "potential" recruits. I'll wait until they sign their LOI and are officially listed on the UM roster.

Even after they sign their LOI and appear in games they still bolt to the CHL, so you must follow Maine after the season is completed ;)

Look you may not get excited or don't follow recruiting that's fine, but others like to hear updates about recruits and who commits to the school.

I don't get excited, I could careless if Maine recruits 1 stars or 5 stars, go 0-38 or go 42-1-2, as a reporter all I get excited for is why these kids made their commitment to Maine and follow them until they get to school. If there's news I will share it with the board you are more than welcome to listen to it or ignore it, doesn't matter to me.

On some former commits Swann Boisvert is going to play at a Div 3 school in the New England area and Pietro Antoneli is trying his luck in the USHL to try to hook on with another D1 school
