Shore says with assurity he's comin to Maine.

I would say all of the draft picks are going to show up at Maine for a place to play pending the current NHL lockout situation. I would say that the AHL would be all jammed up with players with a 2 way contract

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Bangor High School's Chris Howat will be Maine's reserve goaltender this year according to Larry Mahoney. He had a 12-5 record with a 2.22 gaa and a .880 save percentage according to mainehshockey.com

Merchant gains valuable experience at Wild Development Camp
By Nathan Fournier Published: 20th July 2012
Portland, ME – Despite not being drafted last month, Will Merchant was still able to wear an NHL sweater for the first time last week.

The Eagan, Minnesota native and an incoming freshman to the University of Maine Black Bears men’s ice hockey team took part in the Minnesota Wild’s development camp last week as a free agent invitee.

I will have more on Howat on Monday after I get in touch with him this weekend.

Howat named to Black Bears roster
By Nathan Fournier Published: 24th July 2012

Portland, ME – There’s no place like home.

Despite mulling offers to play junior hockey, goaltender Chris Howat, who just finished his senior year at Bangor High School, will attend the University of Maine in the fall to be the reserve goaltender for the men’s ice hockey team.

“There was an option of playing juniors, but I didn’t want to go very far (from home),” said Howat. “My studies are pretty important to me, as far as that aspect goes. It provides me (the ability) to continuing studying without a break.”

“This opportunity doesn’t come very often, plus there’s no guarantee in juniors.”

Interesting tidbit of news former recruit Brandon Francisco is leaving the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) for the Newmarket Hurricanes (OJHL). Such a promising career but wasnt able to put it all together

How long has it been since Maine had a recruiting class with nine players in the USHL? Isn't that cause for optimism?

I was thinking the same thing!
it looks like Tim has turned a corner!

here's hoping I was wrong all this time and that he CAN recruit excellent players...I never thougt a Devin Shore would ever come to Orono as long as Tim was there, but I was wrong.
I never thought I would see anything but Boston Advantage and Manchester Monarchs, but I was wrong!

let's hope this all pans out, and YES it is a cause for optimism

I saw that also, I don't follow recruiting that much, I'm a show me type of guy but looks good to me

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

It's sure to be optimistic. Waterloo is suppose to be a top team this season, Indiana and Cedar Rapids each have a history of developing players and Fargo has had a pretty good run their first few years in the league

I think you will still see Maine recruit heavily in the EJHL/New New England but the key is to get those recruits to the USHL for at least a year. Remember none of these players above were in the USHL before they committed to Maine. Maine seem to be hitting the midwest this season with Wolfe, Schuhamer, and Merchant this past season and Norman two seasons ago, maybe we will see them recruit players directly out of the USHL.

Sorry for the mistake I dont know why I listed Pecararo as a 2015 recruit...Hes a 2014 recruit.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Thanks for posting this link. I missed it back in March. One of the most complimentary articles I have ever read. Reading this piece has me really "reved up" for the coming season.

Nice compliments despite the many factual errors. However the alumni magazine also has a very nice piece on the 92-93 team that seemingly was devoid of simple edits that would have fixed factual errors. Internet makes it so easy to check facts, and yet there are more errors than ever these days!

Many factual errors? Please fill us in on the specifics?

The ones I caught were: saying Kariya was class of '96 is a bit misleading (although technically probably true) because he turned pro in '94. 1993 was not Maine's first time to the frozen four like the article says. The video of the '93 season is called "Out of the Woods," not "Into the Woods." Also, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Dave LaCouture didn't graduate in '99 (unless he came back and got his degree then.
