Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I don't disagree that we need a change in coaching, but how do we know that Corkum would be a better fit?

I'm with Wally...At least Corkum has shown us some recruiting, and I don't see how the in-game stuff could get much worse right now.

Maine hockey is not getting me through the winter the way it used to.:p

You are both right...Corkum would light a fire under these guys...he would get there respect....and this team would be tough, hard working and behind the bench you would see someone with the right emotions at the right time......he would run a tight team. BUT no chance......MAYBE next season.......and finally it does SU*k out loud how this season has started and what it will bring down the road.....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Kerluke wasn't much of a defensive forward either. Then you have Corkum who was a forward as well so we don't have a coach with any background as a defenseman doesn't make much sense.

The D completely fell apart after Campbell Blair left.

The inconsistency in all areas of the game is now a complete disaster under Whitehead. What's worse is that I have never, ever heard Tim suggest that the coaching staff needed to do a better job. Maine is going on 3 years (should be 4 years after the gift seed) of not qualifying for the NCAA tournament and 3 years of living in the basement of HE. Their record against conference opponents is absoultely abysmal.

The only hope is that you have a guy there in Corkum who can recruit and who, I suspect, can coach a lot more effectively than Whitehead. He understands what the program means to the University and to the State

At least Corkum knows how to play defense. Pretty good all-round player.

Who was the last legit blue chip d-man that Maine recruited and signed???

Too bad he isn't allowed to.:(

Corkum was definitely a really good defensive forward especially once he got to the NHL that's what kept him in the league so long. That being said being a defensive forward and being a defenseman is apples and oranges. That's why I'd like to see someone with a background as a defenseman or at least a background coaching defenseman.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Agree 100% on the goaltending it's probably the worst in D1. How about a D coach as well? Since Blair left the D has been on a downhill slide.

Campbell's famous quote to the defensemen WAS, "I don't care what coach tells you, I want you hitting"

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

As far as I know, Kerluke is the one who handles the defense. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me to have an ex-forward coaching defensemen how to play, but maybe that's just me. Maybe Danny-boy is master of all facets of the game.

danny does not have to be a master of anything, he just has to do exactly what Tim tells him to do, no more and no less... but certainly NO MORE.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Comparing an accidental hit-from-behind to Hitler is a bit of a stretch, no?

I actually understand where you guys are coming from, being upset about the hit on Shemansky. Same thing happened to Greg Mauldin a few years ago in Lowell. He was turning into a hit, and got driven into the Tsongas boards. Hockey is a physical game, and sometimes mistakes happen. Nolet is not a dirty player, and wouldn't make a dirty hit on purpose.

Shemansky played the next night against UNH, so if he was paralyzed, there must have been some sort of miracle.

keep defending the hit. Next you are going to tell me that Nolet knew that Shemansky was going to play the next night... interestingly I did not see him or Toot whining for a n embellishment penalty....

Hitler was just trying to unify the country, and stop the illegal aliens from diluting the superior genepool.

LOL.......Is that tongue in cheek? If it isn't, that wasn't the intent on my post.

I don't think he was a blue chipper coming in, but if I were going to build a lineup of an all time Maine team, Prestin would be one of my 6 d-men.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Yes,Metcalf for sure.

And I'll add Andre Aubut,The Pride of Laval, not that anyone but us old-timers ever saw him play...(Too bad for you kids!)He was the best skating D-man I've ever seen in a Maine uniform.

More than any other player-with the very possible exception of Gary Conn-he vaulted Maine into D-1 when nobody thought they could make that jump.

He's gone,but he's not forgotten.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Is it true that recruit Johnny Searfoss has opted out of UMaine and instead is going over to Nebraska/Omaha?? New coach there by the name of Dean Blais...pretty good coach when at North Dakota.......Maine keeps losing games and recruits.......next will be the attendence of fans for home/away games.........
