Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Anyone think that Sean Romeo gets a start this weekend in net versus UConn..?..Maybe McGovern on Friday & Romeo on Saturday...why not...

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Yeh - why not, None of the three are really standing out as being the better goalie. I thought he would get a shot last weekend. Romeo must not be practicing well.

Former Black Bear Liam Pecararo heading to Northeastern.

Congrats to '96 LW Liam Pecararo (Waterloo) on committing to Northeastern. Good offensive skill set, had NCHC, Big 10, Hockey East interest.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Blaine Byron just made one of the worst plays I've ever seen in any sport and Maine is down 1-0.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Did anybody else see that Maine Men's Basketball beat top-of-the-conference Albany today?

Yes, I did. Terrific win for this program on the rise. The men's basketball team will see the NCAA Tourney before the hockey team does. How wacked would that be?

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

If there wasn't a scoreboard Maine was great tonight. Only one stupid penalty, they skated hard, passed well, played good D. I thought Robbins was one of the better players on the ice but you can't miss a wide open net from 6 or 7 feet away. this has to be the worst team Maine has had on the ice since Semler days. 12th in HE, anything higher than that is a gift from heaven. Team absolutely has no offense, no snipers, no shot from the point, no one who can get to a rebound, can't win a faceoff. Its very frustrating to watch and Im sure its frustrating to play.

It's borderline mind-boggling to see all 44 shots stay out. But that's what we have here.

I'll go ahead and say it: I think Maine would be better-off under Timmy. At least he recruited a few blue-chippers, and kept the Bears more-or-less on the radar.

Red is certainly not the answer. I appreciate that he is devoted to Maine and is doing what he can, but it's nowhere near enough. The program has plummeted from mediocre-status to being one of the worst in the nation. I'd like to see Red take a fractional buyout and assist in the transition to hiring a new staff, 'cause if that doesn't happen ASAP, Maine will be awful for the foreseeable future.

I agree with you.

I don't see Red leaving the program. He's here for at least one more year to complete his contract. After that who knows.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Almost every other team in the league has scored twice as many goals as Maine in league play. Double!!

Lots of Tim recruits on this team, which ones are the blue chippers?

Red doesn't seem to be the guy. I think you have to go young, get someone who can relate to the current crop of players. No doubt Red knows as much about hockey as anyone but can he get these players to understand it and do it? Doesn't seem like it to me. If they always played like last night, maine would have a better record but it still wouldn't be great. If I had to bet, they have nothing in the tank tonight. Hope they prove me wrong

The good players Tim recruited left last year after being under Red. Not saying it was because of Red that they left. Over half the team is Red's.

nothing in the tank tonight.

That seems to be how it is. If Maine doesn't win the first game they usually don't win the 2nd. I haven't checked to see if that's true.

Im not sure if Tim was a better game day coach than Red, but he was definitely a better recruiter. He brought in better players, on avg., than Red has so far. Say what you want about riding the success of the Walsh era, for whatever the reason, Tim was able to at least get a few elite players who are in the NHL. Will any of Red's players even sniff the NHL? I think not.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Sadly I think that after NEXT SEASON the Program will have to cut ties with this Present Coaching Staff and go after a Younger Head Coach & Assistant Coach to take over...and that's "IF" there isn't some drastic change in there play next season...another rebuild is in order...facts are facts and this Staff has to take a good amount of blame also. "IF" a new man is hired he will most likely bring in his own assistants, which is the norm most of the time. It's not working, talent is not there and the recruiting trail is dismal to say the least...the worst part of this is always being negative, but it is what it is and its NOT GOOD...just the plain truth...again/sadly. 12th place looks like a lock....no wins equals no progress.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

On Whitehead: His recruiting went in spurts. He'd have an incredible class and then a couple of blah ones, for whatever reason, it seemed to go this way in the post-Grant years. After Bish, you had some blah classes, then the class with Nyquist and House, and then the home run that was Abbott, Flynn and friends, then some blah ones, then Shore-Hutton. So we're definitely in the blah cycle here.

I'd hoped Red and Guite would bring more consistency but if my choices are have a .210 batting average forever or hit .190 sometimes and then .380 other times, give me the second one.

Just to add my two cents, I don't give a chit how old the coach is if they produce; I don't think they should necessarily target young (or cheap), if a guy of that age comes to an interview and knocks your socks off, awesome, but it's sure not a prereq.
