Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Disagree on Shore. Hes got the one big thing the bigs want....size . And he can score. He'll make it, no doubt in my mind, but having said that, he needs to complete a full season of college hockey dominance ....so I think he needs to return for his senior season. Along with Hutton. Both of them need to prove they have what it takes to take their college team deep into the playoffs....its not just about talent but also about heart and guts. And, I think they could do that next year if they want to, all the pieces would be in place.

I feel like Shore just doesn't have the mentality for pro hockey.......no mean streak, toughness or tenacity........and physically he just seems to "doughy" for lack of a better term. I don't think that he is in great shape.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Seeing as how they still have to go Merrimack and Providence, then that's going to be extremely difficult. However, getting at least 3 points out of 4 in these final two home series is a must.

Disagree on lack of tenacity. He can bring it when he wants. Mean streak I don't think is a necessity at the next level. I don't see him as strictly a power forward without hands. He has good hands , picks corners well and can make space for himself with skating ability. Think more than anything he needs to complete a full solid season of dominance at cuyrent level. Face it he is a threat anytime out on the ice, an indication he has ability to get to next level

I'll guarantee that ain't happenin'

I'd bet the farm that it ain't happing either. Just sayin that if they have a prayer of advancing past the 1st round of the HE playoffs they have to move up dramatically in the standings. And that is a fantasy.

Disagree with this. It's really luck of the draw and finishing higher doesn't necessarily mean you will have an easier opponent. For example, if the season ended today Maine would play at Uconn. If Maine moved up a spot they would play Northeastern. Who would you rather play?

They don't call you nervous Nellie for nothin! HAng in there and keep the faith, I see some consistently good play since the break. 4 points from the golden domers would be sweet if they can pull it off

Not that ND is a rival or anything yet. But if there is one team that this squad probably wants to payback it is ND. The collapse last season on their ice is probably the most painful thing this squad has had to deal with. So hopefully they are motivated for the ND games.

I like how the goaltending has steadily improved. The defense has been better lately. And the forward lines are developing chemistry. For example, I think Will Merchant has really played great hockey lately, at some point that is going to show up on a score sheet.

On the talk about Shore, I think he has many things going for him. He is good on face-offs and good in his own end. For a guy projected to be on the bubble for NHL those are two nice traits to have. If you pair Shore with two whiz bang wingers there wouldn't be a conversation about if he is capable of NHL play or not. IMO. But the guys he's with are either young or not at a level where he can get down low enough on the offensive end more often than not.

I think some size and grit at wing will help. And it looks like they are trying to remedy that by having Hayes play wing and through the way they are recruiting.

I am hoping and would bet that Maine will be tough down the stretch and be a tough out for any of these top teams in the HE playoffs.

hmmmmm, if you're playing decent defense I would rather avoid the hot, Ken Dryden type goalie in the playoffs I guess... just mo though. Note PC only able to put up two against UCONN goalie also

I am of the opinion that it doesn't matter who the goalie is. Mainers need to get dirty at the net front and take the goalies eyes away. Until this team understands toughness... it won't matter much. So I welcome the best goalies now... and get down low and take their eyes away and battle. At the same time defend against this much in your own end. Hamilton and Riley are going at it. But it would be nice if the whole d crew had a wolf pack mentality to get it done. I guess people can't lose a tooth or so.

That is it. Don't be bashful boys... take what's your's.

Northeastern.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Without question Northeastern. If there's any two teams I'd rather not face in the first round it's UConn or Merrimack. Similar styles...defense first, block a lot of shots, and goaltenders who could pull a Ken Dryden on us.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Making the pilgrimage up to Orono for the weekend series. They need to take at least 3, preferably all 4 points this weekend.

ND is 2-5-1 since Jan 1. The wins vs UConn and UNH. Mehh.Their fans are not happy. Screaming at Jeff Jackson. Screaming at the players, especially the top ones.

Maine is 6-3-1 since Jan 1. Not great, not bad but the inconsistency is enough to make you nuts. Go Black Bears!

Another recruit with Ben tonight, young looks 16 or so. Small compared to what we've been getting

Someone's had their future-sight working tonight.
