So do you think we have NOT seen the lowest of lows yet..?

What players do you think are going to turn into scoring machines next year?. This trend of making goalies look great goes back before Red. if Devin leaves who is your go to guy? Cam brown?

Vesey and Pecararo.

Granted 3 goals in 2 games don't win many games...but the difference maker this weekend was UConns Goaltender Rob Nichols,he kept them in both games and was clutch when needed. Now back to Alfond and taking on Notre Dame next weekend.

Nichols certainly played well on Friday, but Maine just missed the net so many times when he was back on his heels... IMO, that should have been a 3-1 victory, at least.

Shore isn't anywhere near ready for The Bigs, IMO. I kinda doubt that he'll ever make it, but he'll need to work on his game a lot more to have a any kind of shot. Abbott was a much better player, and he still hasn't been called-up for a mediocre Toronto team.

I don't see anyone on the present Roster that will be back next season as anywhere's near being called a sniper...I was just kidding in my comment as anyone can see that next years team does not have much more to offer then this years...if we think this year was long, could very well be the recipe next season...what a mess in terms that this won't be fixed soon.

Disagree on Shore. Hes got the one big thing the bigs want....size . And he can score. He'll make it, no doubt in my mind, but having said that, he needs to complete a full season of college hockey dominance ....so I think he needs to return for his senior season. Along with Hutton. Both of them need to prove they have what it takes to take their college team deep into the playoffs....its not just about talent but also about heart and guts. And, I think they could do that next year if they want to, all the pieces would be in place.

Feeling quite optimistic eh? I think saying all the pieces being in place for a deep playoff run is a little too glass half full. But I like your positivity! :)

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

suppose he will turn it back the other way when Maine goes back to playing teams not ranked 35th or below in the nation?
Ahh, now I know why you have such a negative rating, you earned it! Shore's a good player, I think that Dallas might be disappointed with his development and elect to get him in their system quickly, ditto for Hutton. I think you "internet wacko's" are a little harsh on Rutt. He gets publicly ridiculed for making mistakes and when others make similar or worse mistakes....crickets..... Last year it took awhile but the last month of the season he was probably our best D. For the last 3 weeks he has played like our best D, despite getting no PP time, he's accumulating points steadily and since being paired with Riley his +- has gone up steadily. In conference, against HE opponents, BC, BU, UML, UMass, UNH, VT, and UConn he has the teams second best +- only behind Riley. Could he have played better early on? of course, but so could have every other member on the team. The team has started playing better since he turned it, and of course when the schedule got a little easier.

i do not think that I have ever been hard on Rutt... but to put me in a box with the "internet nutcases' who have been 100% correct regarding the things that Whitehead was wrong about... I got no complaints.

all i was saying is that there are some who thought he was a bad D man and then he turned it around....but these people are not considering who the opposition has been. Rutt has always been solid, never great and never terrible.

that said.... unless I took a look at which lines he is out against, I do not care what his plus minus is.... in general, whoever goes out against Eichel Rodriquez and ORegan is going to be a team's best D pair, and they will not end the game with a great plus minus. It is pretty easy to end a game with a good plus minus when a D man only has to take on the opponennts bottom 2 lines.

Hey man it's more experience especially in net, couple workhorses on a mission, some good young bucks and a second season from a solid freshman class. You gotta stay positive

No one here has been hard on Rutt compared to the facebook page, idiots have said he should give up the A on his sweater because he sucks so much and doesn't lead by example. He is what he is and has been since playing at Maine. Shawn always talked about Dmans mistakes as being the most visible. You might not notice when a forward makes a defensive mistake but you will always see a Dmans. When Maine gave up the goal to UConn with 20 secs left, the facebook page had several folks blame Rutt right off, funny he was only guy back on d, where were the other Maine players?? yet he gets blamed.

There's an old saying that goes something like "you can't teach an old dog new tricks," which I don't think is entirely true. There's another saying that says "old habits are harder to break." When looking at UConn and their achievements this year when compared to Maine's shortcomings, I think you can really see that it's easier to start fresh with new people and start from day one with the right habits and build from there. Maine has too many bad habits and mental mistakes that keep coming back to haunt them regardless of what gets talked about in practice by the coaches. Maine is showing much improvement, but they still have a tendency to regress from time to time. Personally I think Maine is due for a breakout very shortly. When things are clicking things really do click. Maine will not be a fun team to play against down the stretch. But, in the meantime, fans should keep in mind that old habits die hard.

Oh I expect improvement but the deep run into the playoffs is still a couple years away IMO. I'm still optimistic that this will turn around. I love Maine hockey too much not too.

Its like a pendelum in many ways, its cyclical. Look at the horific start that Northeastern had, look at what they've been doing lately. Look at UML's hot start, and what they have done lately. Its goes both ways and I think the Bears are gonna tear it up down the stretch. At the very least they should put themselves in a position of strength for the playoffs. Just my opinion. Peoples get too caught up in the now nowadays and thats a double entendre :D

I see good things but until I see it on a regular basis I'm not convinced this team is ready to make some noise. they need 4 pts this weekend.

My sentiments as well. And they need 3-4 pts EVERY weekend from here on out.

They don't call you nervous Nellie for nothin! HAng in there and keep the faith, I see some consistently good play since the break. 4 points from the golden domers would be sweet if they can pull it off
