Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

I'd take either of these guys over Wilson, Sirman, Sullivan, or Lundin. They aren't as good as Bishop, Darling, or Oullette, but they're definitely better than the other group. At least half the goals Maine has conceded this year has been because of horrible defending.

I'd agree with this. You give these two guys some help in front of the net and they'll be just fine. Both move well in the crease. Has anyone noticed any lack of concentration?

Don't know if anyone saw the BDN article on the two recruits the women's team inked to NLIs. Both play for the Canadian U-18 national team. One is a goaltender, the other is the daughter of Stephane Matteau
Is the goaltender eligible to try out for the men's team?

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

There is NO traffic on the UConn thread about this weekend, or in general. Not much fan interest.
I'd love to see Red & the boys take 2 and gain a little respect. Romeo tonight and Morris Sunday is my guess.
GO BEARS.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

We got outplayed at the key position, when your goalie lets in softies and their goalie is a brick wall, you lose. The last goal was defensive breakdown, Rutt was the only guy back, Uconn Freshman which the announcers were raving about before game started set it up. Apparently the players on the ice didn't get the memo. Glad I didn't drive up there for that, the snow sucks enough but that would have been a horrible ride home. I knew this game would be tough, Maine always makes good goalies look like Ken Dryden.

Not much fan interest? Head down to Hartford tomorrow, you'll see passion like Orono, just a few more thousand people. The fact that UConn fans aren't on this board might be more of a sign that this fan forum thread is beat. It was great a few years ago, but now it's like a small town diner, same people talking smack about the same crap. I would hesitate to judge UConn's fan interest on the activity on the USCHO fan forum.

Looking forward to Sunday's battle.

Obviously, Connecticut fans stay away from USCHO forums. I noticed when the Huskies played UML at the XL Center in Hartford on January 10th, attendance was over 6,000.

We're headed down tomorrow. Looking for our guys to bounce back.

When we bought tickets the arena looked pretty well sold, esp. for Super Bowl Sunday. Ended up 1st row upper bowl. Any suggestions on where to get lunch before the game? Good draft beer selection is always a plus.

Nicoles is more than just a good goalie,he's top notch and he can steal games for UConn...they might even surprise someone in the Hockey East Playoffs...he's that good to win a series by himself. Maine needs to rebound Sunday and get loads of traffic in front of Nicoles...will need deflections and ugly goals to win this one.

See what having some money behind a program can do?

Good goalie or not, I'd say this game is a real test to see if this Maine team has turned a corner or not when it comes to winning on the road. It was nice to win decisively on the road at UNH with a shutout, but it won't mean anything if Maine can't avenge the loss at home on Friday by pulling out a win. Yeah, I know UConn is a good team and all that, but I think we have a pretty good team too when the players all show up and play a full 60 minutes and execute the way they know how.

I hear you loud and clear about the 60 minutes of hockey...its NOT there and has not been there all season long...even in there wins...there's been times like 8-10 minutes of a start/end of a period or the full period that they are just NOT there... >coaching? >lack of talent? >both? >someone fill in the blank? It has been frustrating to say the least...and when you think they are turning the corner, bingo back to square one.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Who is in NET today? Romeo? I would think they go with a rotation...maybe? Maine needs these 2 points today to stay on track with a chance at a Home Playoff spot.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

And a defense. It looks like that program is farther along than by rights it should be.

....and I think they have only 11 scholarships this year .... and also 9 freshmen. Impressive

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

a GREAT goaltender can do that to teams... Nicoles is the reason they've taken down BC, Lowell, RPI, UVM, Quinnipiac, Union, and Tied BU and Notre Dame.... What is scary is this kid is only a sophomore, so we're going to see A LOT more of him over the next couple of years.... If UCONN throws money at the program over the next couple of seasons, they're better positioned to entrench themselves than most of the teams in HE. With that said, right now, they're a young team with a great 'tender and very good coaching....
