Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Also an FYI to my fellow man fans. Apparently its against board rules here to talk about how a certain college hockey program that borders our state has never won a mens ice hockey d1 national championship. The fans of this school can dish it out but can't take it back. These fans called maine fans and people of our state degrating names while I simply kept the conversations or arguments to on ice stuff only. Yet they reported me. I am back after a week suspension and still posting like the true champion that I am. Oh that that certain school I mentioned still have never won mens Ice Hockey Championship in divison one EVER

you really need to get over it. get a life.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

No "harm" per se just poor taste. Its PR 101 you want to time your message correctly. Taking Senior Night is going tl turn some people off. Mistake IMO.

Not only a stupid poor taste mistake with bad timing, but down-right cruel. If you could have seen the senior parents faces as they tried to understand what had just been handed them realizing that their sons were here playing their hearts out four of those years......

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

I stuck around to the end of last night's game to hear the seniors bid farewell. I don't normally do this. I heard lots of good things from these young men pertaining to the Maine hockey program and their experiences being a student athlete. They all were very articulate and are excellent representatives of the University of Maine. Maine hockey fans can be proud of them. I think 4 of the 5 have been an honor roll student every semester of their 4 year career. Congratulations seniors.

Exactly. Actions speak louder than words. You can shout until you're blue in the face that this is about management and not players. But when you have a dozen chances to hand out these leaflets, and you do it on Senior day in front of family . . . that just sucks.

Good idea, lousy execution.

not sure it was lousy... there are plenty of parents who are extremely dissatisfied with the preparation their sons got from Timmy and just as unhappy about how Grant was promised to them and was taken away. There will be more than just a couple parents who will be happy to know that the fans see what is going on and it is not just their sons and family advisors who are malcontents.

this was not Providence college senior night. This was senior night for a bunch of very good prospects who were brought in with the understanding that they would be competing for national championships year after year. I bet that a few of the parents are happy to know that not everyone thinks that the problems are with their sons, but with someone else.
Many of you keep chanting that Timmy cannot stop pucks and Timmy cannot score goals, YOU are blaming the players. The guy handing out the flyers is NOT blaming the seniors. He is telling the parents that many of the fans know that it was not their fault.

a couple months ago some other knowitalls were asking how Nebraska and Notre Dame are doing (when Maine was ranked higher)... are you asking that now?

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

I love the rule. How often does a team actually gain an advantage for more than a few seconds (if at all) on a delayed penalty and convert? I'd say rarely. What about a situation where its a breakaway and a guy is tripped down but still manages to score? They didn't gain any advantage from the infraction at all (and the penalty doesn't even go in the books). Its a NCAA rule not Hockey East, as far as I know, and I love it, along with the hybrid icing (when called correctly).

Good weekend, Maine! Thanks for helping us out :D

well, the point of awarding a power play (except in the case of injury potential penalties) is because the other team took away a scoring opportunity... if the team scores, no scoring opportunity was taken away.

I want them to implement the Rodrigue line, like in basketball. If you score from outside a certain line, it counts as 2 goals. (jk)

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Looks like TW stopped coaching and let the team play............leaving it up to the players.............

as insane as that sounds, it does appear to be correct.
did any one else notice how many goals were scored this weekend with Maine players out front, screening or annoying Cannata? Also how many times did Maine players crash the net rather than all go chase a loose puck, like giant mites.

I was watching a game about 2 months ago, it might have been one of the Florida games. Timmy picked up his whiteboard and started "explaining" something... nobody seemed to "get it" and timmy looked all lost, so Corky came over, took the pen and explained "it".

maybe Timmy is delegating some authority to his coaches, rather than micromanage their every move. If this is the case, I applaud him for that.

also, there have been many new plays, new breakouts, passing across an open man when 3 rush the net, so that the second guy can shoot (this is new... and an old Paul Kariya/Mario Lemieux in the NHL play), different players on the PP, different shooting spots (i.e. not every shot comes from the right point, or the bottom of the right circle)...all good changes!!!

NOW, timmy needs to put someone on Mangene's line who can skate and follow him to the slot on his multiple breakaways that he is gonig to get at the Mullins center.... some Maine player MUST get his rebounds...is Amestoy fast enough?

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Diamond is a very dynamic and creative player who contributes so much to the success of the team. He has a reputation now and it's hurting him and the team when he spends so much time in the penalty box. He really needs to learn how to control himself and become more disciplined.

I disagree, everyone who plays with him says he is the best team mate they ever had. He gets under the skin of the opponents and gets into their heads. he runs goalies and puts the opponent on notice that they gotta watch out for more than just the puck carrier, heads have to be on a swivel at all times and that helps Maine more than it hurts. You guys have so forgotten how Walshy's (and Parker's and Hakstol's) boys knew/know how to push the envelope almost every shift.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

:p

Were they Maine fans or were you sitting with Merrimack fans?

Great weekend for Maine. Looking back on all the late game collapses this year, we sure could have used another 5 or so points right now. It looks like Maine is 15 or 16 based on the polls this morning. Ranked just in front of them is BU. There is no way Hockey East gets 5 schools in the tournament. Maine winning 2 at BU is a big ask. So many opportunities this season to pick up points (ie the entire series against UHN).
Long Time Maine Hockey fans.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

That record against the big three over the last five years is pretty pathetic.

BTW, no one mentioned it, but priceless got a shout out from Joe Carr a couple of times over the course of the broadcast last night. For his PWR expertise, not his TIMMAY love. :D

+1. When Joey is on the ice, someones watching. He needs a little more finesse and like Prestin needs to learn when to push the envelope, he doesn't need to do it every shift. The guy can handle the puck in traffic and gets absolutely killed in front of the crease. Who else does that for Maine?

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Congrats to Maine for utterly and completely putting the smack down on a Merrimack team that nobody has been able to do that to this year...all of their losses before this weekend were by 1 goal (some were 2, but had ENG's in them)...Maine came out like a team possessed and took control from the opening faceoff in game one to the final buzzer in game 2...Maine has always been the team I root for 2nd (after Merrimack of course) and it was great to see them finally live up to their potential this year. It puts them in a tie at #15 in the PWR rankings, which gives them a chance at the NCAA's. Hell of a weekend for you guys. You deserve all the praise you are getting.

And I agree with what someone said below. Even with Da Costa, I believe the results are the same, just a bit closer. MC didnt show up to play the way they have all year, they got away from the little things that made them successful all year, and Maine made them pay in EVERY possible way. Congrats.

On a side note, I HATE HATE HATE the new rule about scoring on a delayed power play...in the NHL, refs hand goes up, goalie goes to the bench, you get the extra attacker on the ice, you score, no PP follows...in Hockey east, you still get the power play. I HATE this rule. Have hated it all year and hate it even more now.
SOMETIMES a good beating is what a team needs heading into the H.E. Playoffs & NCAA's...they learn....Merrimack will be fine with SDC coming back and solid goaltending....good luck in the NCAA's...and just maybe you'll see Maine again, not in the NCAA's but the QF's in 2 weeks, like I said good luck in the NCAA's but the QF's is a different story if you play Maine..(hahhaha).

yeah... and it was announced that he played for the team back in the 90's... if you keep telling those, people are going to start to believe you

I like the rule. I've always wondered why it wasn't in place. Apart from a very few seconds between the ref's arm going up and a team touching up, why keep playing? If the offense has the defense so totally out of whack that they can score without losing control even a little, then they deserve the chance at two goals.

Educate me on this: when a penalty shot is awarded, is that followed by two minutes in the box?

you really need to get over it. get a life.

See the part about trolls, MAINEhockeyFireWhitehead. They're talking about you.

Flame me if you want, but that little display last night was a stain on the hockey program and the university.

The team is in the midst of a winning streak, Dan Sullivan is on his way to a record-setting shutout streak AND it's Senior Night. You're supposed to honor the seniors for four years of dedication to the school and the team and instead you're taking the spotlight off of them. Worse, you're complaining that they might be the first class since '86 to miss an NCAA tournament. Like they don't know it. Like it's not something that eats at them. They're well aware of their lack of success. You think they came to Maine to lose? And then to hear it from your own "fans"? They might expect it at the Whit or Conte Forum, but to come into your own building and be told that you suck? Real classy.

I hope you whiners are all proud of yourselves. You were hoping to get the attention of the administration? Good news: you did. I've already heard from one member of the administration who was appalled at the insensitivity shown to the seniors, their parents and the team in general. Any chance of persuading the administration for a change is probably gone now. Congratulations.

Did you morons give any thought at all to the timing of this event? Those parents sent their son across the country, in some cases to a different country, for four years and this is the thanks they are shown? What are they going to say to friends or prospective student-athletes? "He really enjoyed his time there, but the fans were terrible." Good message to send.

It snowed on Friday? Too ****ing bad. Either do your little protest on Friday or don't do it at all. Saturday should have been a great night - Maine won, took the #4 team in the country to the woodshed, Sully broke the shutout record and we were sending off a terrific group of seniors. Instead you wanted to put the spotlight on you and your little cause. Pathetic.

And don't give me this bull**** about how it was all aimed at the coach, not they players. It doesn't work that way. The coach is a bad recruiter? Well guess who he recruited! The very kids you claim to support. Slight disconnect there?

I hope you're proud of whatever you think you accomplished.

Great point but I get the impression the people that have done this are not exactly big thinkers. They either won't touch this point at all or will fail terribly trying to spin this in another direction. I agree with your whole rant here.

Priceless very well said. We were happy to be on hand last night and I even walked up from the steam plant with Mr. Banwell, who just happened to park next to our car and I struck up a conversation. He talked about how much Mike had enjoyed his time in Maine and how great the fans are. I am not sure if he got a flyer as he went in the Dexter lounge and I went to the main entrance. When I saw the handouts I grabbed one and promptly returned it when I saw what it was.

Here is what I will say to the Fire Tim contingent. If you are going to be so brazen as to hand these out on Seniors night, then have the GUTS to sign the thing. Just like many of you hide behind fake names on this board, you hid from identifying yourselves last night! True Cowards.

And as Priceless stated, the fact that you criticize the recruiting on the very night we honor the Senior class is simply in poor taste. I know it comes as no surprise that I am in agreement with Priceless, but timing is everything, and last night was simply bad timing.

Hey, as a UNH fan it's none of my business, but I agree with Priceless. Definitely not classy to do anything that takes the focus away from Senior Night. It was doubly ill-timed, given what Maine accomplished these past couple weekends: scoring what -- 23 goals and giving up only 3 in 5 games, 2 of which were played against the #4 team in the country? A record shutout streak by a freshman goalie?

Methinks it was a case of "Ready! Fire! Aim!"
