For someone who didn't see the game..........

Was Merimmack that bad or was Maine that good?

Not sure if MC was that bad, Maine was excellent, was all over MC from the get go. The best I've seen Maine play since BC game.

Good to see Dimmen play like Dimmen, his skating is fluid once again.

For the first time all year I didn't cringe when the puck went into Maines zone, Sully was good but the d around him was awesome.

not exactly the type of instance you're talking about, but just once for me... when abbott fell at the point on the pp leading to the 3 on 1

Larry forgot to mention Sully's achievement. As a matter of fact, they didn't even announce it at the game, at least not that I heard. I can't help but feel he got shafted...
Totally agree. Sully broke a 9 year old record held by Howard. Played another great game tonight. If he stays hot and the team play like they did tonight, we can play anyone anywhere and beat them...PERIOD.

Boy, Diamond is really racking up the penalty minutes. 39 penalties for 116 minutes so far and going strong...

Someone needs to tell that kid to relax.

I think your right to a certain extent. HOWEVER he has an ENORMOUS target on his back! Anything he does earns him a trip the box. He gets in opponents heads, every team needs a player like that.

chris - he took an interference call tonight worth 2 minutes, was skating away, got drilled in the back a fell to the ice... what did the refs give him... two for slashing, two for embellisment, two for unsportsmanlike, and a ten minute misconduct.... he didn't get up and go after the guy afterwards... it was hip check along the boards just before the guy got to the puck... had the guy been carrying the puck it would have been praised as a great hit... the penalties assessed were brutal... if you want to give him two minutes, fine, but 16 was complete horse****

i wish i could get the game off of my dvr and put the "penalties" online....

didn't harp on it, but he mentions it 7 or 8 paragraphs in...

watching on tv, the crowd new it and acknowledged it... and really, it'l like talking about a no-hitter... do you really want the pa announcer jinxing it?

Merrimack certainly missed Da Costa over the weekend. Having said that, i don't think the outcomes would have been any different. Merrimack may have scored a couple more goals in each game with him in the lineup. I thought Merrimack was a more blue color team and worked very hard each night. The work ethic along with good goal tending has earned them a successful season. I think Maine has more skilled players and played with more tenacity in my opinion.

Maine played with a PURPOSE this weekend...Finally...!! And a Welcome site.

Diamond is a very dynamic and creative player who contributes so much to the success of the team. He has a reputation now and it's hurting him and the team when he spends so much time in the penalty box. He really needs to learn how to control himself and become more disciplined.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

The AD saw it.:D Titled the Decline of Maine hockey, bunch of stats showing how the team has failed to perform in the 2nd half for the last 4 years. Says how much attendance has declined and what its cost the U. Last, they gave a letter to sign and date, envelope with ADs office address on it. I saw 2 college guys passing them out, they had 1000's in thier boxes so anyone who wanted one got one.
I didn't see them, but two guys on the side of me had one and they were fumiing about it...they didn't care for it being passed around during a game and with no name who started it....they like TW.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Not to mention, Bertagna will blabber some crap like "the referee already assessed the harshest penalty he could, he made the correct call, so no further discipline is required".

makes you wonder, when the team can put in such an effort like they did last night, just how good they could be. And why we haven't seen that sort of display more often. Funny how we always seem to get one in the last couple weeks of the season, like last year in the HE tourney.

Yup.

Please explain why it's to any team's advantage to be down a man..?

I like his grit, but Joey needs to clean up his act.Starman said that it was the same deal when he coached him as a Jr. in LI.This is not a recent development.

He brings some very good things to the table,no doubt about that, but his act isn't gonna fly at this level,or at the next...

Time for him to re-think his approach. It's not working so well so far.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

It's nice to see Maine play to their potential.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Congrats to Maine for utterly and completely putting the smack down on a Merrimack team that nobody has been able to do that to this year...all of their losses before this weekend were by 1 goal (some were 2, but had ENG's in them)...Maine came out like a team possessed and took control from the opening faceoff in game one to the final buzzer in game 2...Maine has always been the team I root for 2nd (after Merrimack of course) and it was great to see them finally live up to their potential this year. It puts them in a tie at #15 in the PWR rankings, which gives them a chance at the NCAA's. Hell of a weekend for you guys. You deserve all the praise you are getting.

And I agree with what someone said below. Even with Da Costa, I believe the results are the same, just a bit closer. MC didnt show up to play the way they have all year, they got away from the little things that made them successful all year, and Maine made them pay in EVERY possible way. Congrats.

On a side note, I HATE HATE HATE the new rule about scoring on a delayed power play...in the NHL, refs hand goes up, goalie goes to the bench, you get the extra attacker on the ice, you score, no PP follows...in Hockey east, you still get the power play. I HATE this rule. Have hated it all year and hate it even more now.

they like TW.
:p

Were they Maine fans or were you sitting with Merrimack fans?

Great weekend for Maine. Looking back on all the late game collapses this year, we sure could have used another 5 or so points right now. It looks like Maine is 15 or 16 based on the polls this morning. Ranked just in front of them is BU. There is no way Hockey East gets 5 schools in the tournament. Maine winning 2 at BU is a big ask. So many opportunities this season to pick up points (ie the entire series against UHN).

I love the rule. How often does a team actually gain an advantage for more than a few seconds (if at all) on a delayed penalty and convert? I'd say rarely. What about a situation where its a breakaway and a guy is tripped down but still manages to score? They didn't gain any advantage from the infraction at all (and the penalty doesn't even go in the books). Its a NCAA rule not Hockey East, as far as I know, and I love it, along with the hybrid icing (when called correctly).

Good weekend, Maine! Thanks for helping us out :D
