Do u think they brought Dimmen back too early..............didn't think he skated well yesterday

Maybe...based on his post game remarks...

“They did a good job finishing their checks. It’s a tough style to play against. It wears on you,” said Dimmen

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The bottom line is that once Walsh's players, recruits, assistant coaches and even his legacy/vibe were gone, Whitehead was unable to do anything. As someone else pointed out, you're kidding yourselves if you think this team is anywhere near as talented as it was under Walsh or even when Whitehead first took over. Not even close; other than Nyquist, your best forwards now would have been 3rd liners back in the glory days.

Walsh had three superb teams, yes, and Tim has had none, but this year's squad is considerably better than the Maine team I saw advance in Rochester to the FF a few years back.Considerably better...And that was a "coat-tail" team.

Then again,Minnesota is loaded year after year with guys who leave early and earn NHL roster-spots,yet the Gophers fare no better than Maine of late.Maybe coaching matters, who knows?

IMO,it's not so much a question of talent this year.Maine has enough talent.(Night-in,night-out,intensity..?Maybe not.)

Bring back Jimmy Leger and Reg Cardinal!

Talent and Lunch Pail lines go hand in hand...you need to have someone use it right and can you say in crunch time that TW has...look at the last few seasons...break out of the gate with Big wins and usually by the Florida Classic you see many/many cracks in the way the team is headed...and then they go onto mainly Hockey East games from there and everything goes into the tank...that is is Coaching..period............The NEW Titianic: Maine Hockey 101

When your senior leaders are saying, we stopped playing or we quit, I'm thinking some of it is their fault. Its the same thing we've heard for years out of these guys. Maybe they aren't put into the best position by the coach but watching a team quit isn't what I bargained for when I bought tickets

Hey, all you clam sucking, lobster molesting Mainahs. Arnie Davis, the Potato Pin man is celebrating his 90th birthday this week. I've started a birthday thread in the Cafe. Make sure to post your birthday wishes to one of the few gentlemen from Maine!

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Truly sad how something I used enjoy to do with friends and family has turned into something I now refuse to do. I have not attended a single maine hockey game this season. Now I am sure it doesn't hurt the program or bother them but the problem is no one bleeds black bear blue like I do. I can't bring my self to watch this team in person. Its like watching a family member who is being beaten and ur in a cage and can only sit back and watch instead of helping them. I have seen this story many times ( every year since shawn passed away) and it always ends the same way. This coach has brought maine to lows which hasn't been seen since the programs beggining stages and he gets a 3 year raise? Maybe I should try to get a job at Umaine because you must get rewarded for not doing your job. Who wouldn't wana get paid and not have to preform well at their job?

If a fan like me has been turned away I guess the people left going just like hockey or are just sheep that will keep putting there money to watch a train wreck. They raise the ticket prices as the quality has hit rock bottom.

Last year I called the " Tim Whitehead Radio Sho" or whatever it is called. This was before the first round of the hockey east playoff series vs UML. I got through the screen saying I wanted to ask Tim what this playoff series will mean for the youngsters on the roster getting playoff expereince. When I went to the air I said " Guys I just wana say I really enjoy the show and have enjoyed listening all season". They thanked me and then I said "my question for coach whitehead is if the team lost the series to UML would he resighn for the good of the program". Whitehead got angry and snapped at me "not a chance!" I was hung up on of course because how dare anyone question his timid and sit back and lose aproach.

I posted this because I sense many fans share my anger. My question to many of you have you stopped attending games? I think the good posters of this board should call that show and put your 2 cents on the air for the people to hear as well as tim himself.

I listen to everygame on radio and watch on tv but like I said I am done wathcing this team in person until a coaching change is made. I also love how Tim says the drop in attendence at home games is due to the economy. Does he realize when he looks in the mirror he sees the reason?

Haven't seen Spuds at any of the games this year, do you know why?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Timid, Timid Tim has to go. Buy out his contract and get a coach with fire in his belly to take the helm. Buy out his contract and send him packing, please. If UM wants a money making machine, wants national exposure, wants a big money maker in the athletic program, then fire the coach and get a replacement. Do it, and do it soon. Forget the good intentions, this is a business decision.
Forget the past Frozen Four appearances of days gone by when Tim took over for Walsh. It was simply coat tail stuff. You know it, we know it and those appearances will not happen again with Tim at the helm. Tim, you're a good man, you're nice, have a nice family, etc. But you are NOT the kind of coach needed at UM to bring the trophies home to the Alfond. Tim is only mediocre, much the same as he was at UMass-Lowell (Division 1). He's already reached the pinnacle of his career, I am sorry to say. UM, stop hand wringing over this and get a new coach before Maine becomes nothing more than a mid-level team, forever more. Do it, fire him. It's past time and has been for years. Do it, fire him and move FORWARD and UPWARD. Please. For all of us who love Maine hockey, fire him.

Can a state school justify simply buying out a coaches contract in this economic environment in Maine just because the team is struggling? I think you guys are stuck in Timmay Time for the forseeable future for this reason.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

what does that mean? the season is over? or he is done at Maine?

I knew a long time ago, and people who know hockey a hel1 of a lot better than I do knew long before I did that Timmy had sealed the deal.

It means the season is over. Pinhead has coached this team into oblivion by December once again. And he is here for 2 1/2 more years. We have an interim AD this year, the new AD won't fire him in his first year on the job, and Pinhead will have only a year left on his contract the next year. Of course all of this is good news for Providence, Lowell and Northeastern...they won't be the HE bottom dweller the next couple of years.

But, many others have said it better than me. Let me recap:

...HEY! Mike Cornell has been an intense, reliable defenseman leading hockey east in +/- through the 1st two months. Though, with 1 goal in 42 games played, he's shown practically nothing offensively. BETTER PLAY HIM AT FORWARD

AND HEY! Matt Mangene has been our best skater, our best forechecker, a versatile forward who is great on the PK, and he is creating a lot of scoring opportunities and getting a lot of helpers not usually found on a 3rd line. BETTER PLAY HIM ON DEFENSE WHERE HE CAN BE A -4 IN A SINGLE GAME

"Oh, I'd like to keep him on defense. It's his natural position"....got news for you, Tim. Minus a few freak games, he's been a forward this year, last year, and the year before in Manchester. If he has played defense exclusively in the past it was, at minimum, FOUR ****ing seasons ago, and against much lesser competition. He's a forward. An effective one on the 3rd line at that. Get over it, AND STOP ****ING AROUND!

...Why is it that the longer Timid Tim avails the team of his coaching prowess, the worse they play? Start off a new season going gangbusters, full of jump, edginess and excitement, and TimiD Tim coaches it all right out of them by December.

...Grant is gone, as is the individual attention to player development, the ability to pick apart opponent weaknesses and the mental skill of focusing on a player's own positive attributes.

Why when you have so many forwards, you need to play defensemen at forward? Why, when you've got so many d-men, you have to play forwards at defense? Jesus, his coaching decisions just boggle the mind. You want a defenseman who can carry the puck then why don't you recruit one?

This team plays soft, and needs guys to go out there, be aggressive, and hit anything that moves. That means we need guys like Beattie, Anthoine and Corkum in the lineup. But that's not the way Timid Tim coaches, so we won't see it happen.

It is the recruiting, and the fact that the family advisors are telling the good ones NOT to waste time in a system that does not teach hockey. this is where I wish everybody's favorite poster, Hokydad were able to chime in... as much as you all hate him, he knows what is what with recruiting and why Timmy cannot get the job done.

Thats the other thing, these guys don't hit a soul, IMHO its fear of getting benched. I know Corkum and Anthoine will wreck guys if given the chance.

And as a result, no one's afraid of playing against them. Looking over their shoulder before going into the corner after a puck, hurrying a pass, or looking up before receiving one. They're not beaten up and worn down late in the game. I missed most of the first two periods yesterday, but Hannigan said Merrimack came out in the first and just obliterated the Maine forwards every chance they got, basically just took control over them with agressive and physical play.

And with timid coaching comes timid leadership

Have to love the quotes from the article on the BDN website. One thing Whitehead forgets to say is that "our so-called coach is also an embarrassment."

"Against a strong team in their own rink, you've got to pay the price and play harder than that'" said Maine coach Tim Whitehead. "Their top players outplayed our top players. Our so-called first line (Robby Dee between Gustav Nyquist and Brian Flynn) was an embarrassment."

"We didn't come to play today," said Dee

"Take nothing away from them. They took it to us pretty good in all areas of the ice. After that first goal, we stopped playing," said Dee

"We got outworked again. They came out a little hungrier than we did and it definitely swung the tide," said Maine senior defenseman and assistant captain Jeff Dimmen

Love those, we quit statements from our senior leadership

Yes...doesn't that sound like a broken record...same lingo the last 4 years...the New Titianic: Maine Hockey.

I don't even want to go to hockey games at the Alfond anymore. I really don't see myself renewing my tickets next year, it just isn't enjoyable anymore.

I agree. I support this team by buying season tickets and attend all games. I expect a team to work hard and put forth 100 % effort. It's not going to happen every game, I recognize that, that never happens no matter what the sport is. But it's happening way too, often on this team. Part of the problem may be coaching, but I also see a lack of commitment and dedication on the part of players. Players making the same comments game after game and acknowledging their lack of effort is very troubling.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I am now convinced its much more fun following Maine fanz reactions to a loss than it is actually following the team. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Game on !!!!!!!!!

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I wouldn't be surprised if whitehead uses a 4-1 stack next weekend. Where he has the goalie in the middle of the net with his arms against his body pads stacked standing up right and the 2 dmen standing covering the left and right side of the net. Use the wings the lay on their stomachs flat in front of the net. The other body would be used to generate the dump in into the other teams zone if he can gain the red line.
