Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

1. The games MC has down the stretch with the BUs, Maines, and UNHs will go a long way in determining if this team is "for real."

2. I still would like to see MC win some tougher road games. 2-3-2 isn't bad on the road in the league but their only 2 Ws were NU and UML, two of the more putrid teams in this terrible league.

1 point out of third place over halfway through the season? Are we for real yet? I'm starting to get tired of listening to people constantly saying "ya but we have to wait and see if they can prove themselves...".

We took the season series from BC (at the time ranked 1st or 2nd I dont remember), we're in the position to do the same to BU, we completely blew out the 9th ranked team in the country. I really don't get it. If that's not a "for real" contender in Hockey East..I don't know what is.

Define for real? For real meaning you can win the NCAA title? Keep dreaming. For real meaning you can get to the Frozen Four? With a favorable draw, RIT did that. So sure. For real meaning you can get to the Garden for what the second time ever? I don't see why not. But, really, relax.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

lol no one said anything about winning an NCAA title, or even getting to a frozen four. I don't expect that kind of thinking from anyone, I don't even think it. That's not what "being for real" means.

It means being as good as your record says you are. We were in 5th place and ranked 17th in the country going into the game. There are often times ranked teams that don't really play how their ranking reflects. So I can understand the "we have to wait and see" thing when we first made it into the rankings...but seriously the way Maine played, it didn't look like a NCAA title is in your books either..let a lone a frozen four. I know you have played better, I have seen it Ive been to a few other HE games where Maine has played this season. But as of right now I'm left wondering if "#9" Maine is "for real".

Beating Maine, BC, and BU is easy in the regular season (especially BU) :), doing it in the postseason is a different story. Good to see a fellow bottom feeder having success.

Any Maine fan who is paying attention knows Maine shouldn't be ninth in the nation. They've rolled over 2 out of their last 3 games.

Hold the freak on. Maine was 18th in the PWR/RPI coming into the game today. Take your hand out of your pants and smell the coffee. We know MC is very good at home. However... road wins... RIT (37th in RPI coming into today), Army (53), NU (45), Harvard (52), UML (54). I'd still like to see some quality road wins. Thanks for playing.

You're going to get a rude awakening in March.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Just curious from a logistics standpoint....Did the team travel to Merrimack today or last night? I saw them stop in Portsmouth on the way to Providence last month and thought it odd they would travel so far on a game day. They played flat that night and have to think perhaps the long game day bus rides are affecting the team.

5-star post.

Yeah that Whitehead ***** as a coach

Timmay has sealed the deal. Starting with the collapse vs UHN, this entire team has lost confidence in themselves and their coach. He had them sitting back on their heels so much against the Widcats in the 3rd, they had no chance to win that game. Fast forward to the Miami beatdown and now today, this team will not make it to the Garden. The lines are completely messed up....there's no way any good player can show his best stuff if he has to think about who's on the ice with him every time he touches the puck. Any good coach is only tweaking his lines in January....not completely retooling them.

Get the clubs ready....this team is done

No, they were 18th AFTER the game. They were 15th before it. Merrimack was 17th going into the game. Now they are 12th.

"For real" for Merrimack fans means nothing less-- and nothing more-- than "they are a pretty good team". That's it. I'm sure the players have their sights set higher than that, and they should-- and I think they may-- be able to achieve a good deal more than that. But for a lot of fans, especially those who have been watching for decades, and not years, being "a pretty good team" qualifies as being "for real" in an "any given day" sort of way, and showing that at home, against a traditionally solid program like Maine, they can capitalize on an opponent's mistakes in a game, means something.

Any coach of a successful team is only tweaking lines in January because that's all he needs to do. A coach of an less successful team is retooling them in January because he has to, whether he's a good coach or not.

Correct. Siouxsports actually updated when this game was over, I figured they just did it once a night when all games were over.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Timmay has sealed the deal.

what does that mean? the season is over? or he is done at Maine?

I knew a long time ago, and people who know hockey a hel1 of a lot better than I do knew long before I did that Timmy had sealed the deal.

when are people gonna wake up and see the number of all americans dwindling to next to nothing, the number of players in the AHL, never mind the NHL dwindling to next to nothing?

Not sure how I asked it before, but what do MIke Lundin and Jimmy Howard have in common with John Rolston and Blaine Lacher?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

What a poor effort by Maine tonight. I was at the game and left extremely pizzed. At one point I think it was goal 4 or 5 we let a Mack player skate right in and score. Maine players were falling back to the blue line thinking someone else would cover him. After that it looked like we gave up and stopped playing. I have been trying to hold back but I'm ready to join the internet nutcases and hope on the Fire Timmy campaign. This was my first trip to Lawler, one thing that really stuck out for me was how low the ceiling was, and there "band" should sit higher in the stands so that there sound doesn't reflect off the glass 3 feet in front of them. I did like the lobby area, didn't have to wait outside for the doors to open. Wish the Alfond had full arena chair back seating. Anyway this is two games in a row (UNH game, and this one) of driving home wondering if I should continue to spend money on Maine hockey. Plus side was that since I live in Dover, NH my drive home was only 50mins instead of 3.5 hours

This was actually the first game Lawler had full chair-back seating. They changed the home side over during the summer and the visitor's side over during winter break. Also, the "band" was lucky to be anywhere in the stands. When BU played there earlier this year and that student section behind the net was full, the band was up in some little glass room in the corner. It was one of the funniest things I've seen at a hockey game. They were just crammed in that tiny room, isolated from everyone else in the arena.

Are you talking about that area that looks like a press box way in the corner on the vistors side? When I go to games I really enjoy listening to the bands and was disappointed when I couldn't here them. I was over in Section 13.

Yes for one game they were up in that crow's nest that is adjacent to Section 8. Also, in terms of the band: that is not the MC Pep Band, they are on school break until 1/23, so that was a stand-in band who I thought did a pretty fair job. Normally, the Pep Band sets up shop in Section 8, but now that the beacher seating is gone, they may be moving again...

Good for Merrimack as they are a HUNGRY TEAM and winning...Good for the LOYAL FAN's that have stuck thru it all....if they start winning on the road they will give anyone fits in Hockey East Playoffs...
