Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Ouellette is playing with a great deal of poise and confidence. He was partially screened when the puck went in off his arm on the tying goal (his words). I'm not sure how a penalty was called on Rutt in OT. During the same play Ouellette was taken down and the net completely dislodged as players from both teams rushed the net. I think the defense is playing much better, particularly the freshmen and sophomores. The offense is still struggling. There were times when players should have put the puck on net when given opportunities but seemed tentative or just didn't have the on ice awareness. I think they will improve as the season progresses.

You know you are in trouble when the majority of your scoring comes from the back line............
Forwards can not get to the front of the net............no size........skating circles........
Just do not understand the coaching decisions of taking extra chances of trying to get that extra goal in the last 1.09 minute of a game. Why not keep the "STRONG" forecheck going and grinding along the boards in the opposing zone.
Also what a joke TW taught, in a shell, fall back zone defense...........poke check crap..........

Going back to drinking..........

A great pass to Allen set up the tying goal but the Minutemen deserved the tie by never giving up. Give them credit!

You

Still, now that I think about it, Prestin probably took more dumb and unnecessary penalties than any player I've seen in a Maine sweater, and I've seen them all at least a few times. ( Walsh and Diamond are mighty close, though... Honorable mentions to them, anyway. )

I had high hopes for O'Connor in this department, but Timmy has apparently coached the stones off of him. :p

I agree completely... preston and brendan (their first years at Maine) would just retaliate way after a whistle...

Both players were fun to watch but prestin was a blast, he'd kill anything that moved as a Freshman

On a lighter note..

Recent Maine graduates are doing quite well in the AHL this year.

Nyquist 14GP 8G 9A 17Pts

Flynn 14GP 5G 6A 11Pts

Abbott(injured) 4GP 1G 5A 6Pts

If Whitehead could only recruit guys like these more consistently..

If only we had Franky Boyle back  This article is one of the most pointless things I have ever read.

Why pointless? Its the same point we've been making for years on this board. I'd say its spot on, though certainly not original.

Now, who was this Frank Boyle character? Didnt he play for BC? :D

It's way too shallow. The article doesn't define what would be considered success or say where Tim has gone wrong. Also, if he has been so bad who would have done better? I think it's important to look at other factors as well such as how the landscape of college hockey has changed and lack of leadership at the university in the AD and president positions. I'm sure there are people who could put great arguments together on why Tim should be fired but that article most definitely does not.

Sure, but the more pressure from the "media" in general will hasten the day. 12 years is tenure long enough for any coach at one location anyway, without counting his disaffection with the fans. We need something fresh now, some hope for the fans and school.

That article is ridiculous...absolutely no substance.

wait until the end of the year...Whitehead will be gone. And, Jim will be hired (No, not Jim Montgomery)....Jim Totorella.

Based on his work at Colby?

I dont think he even wants to return to UMaine.

Isn't he at UNH at the present time..? 2nd time around @ UNH if I remember correctly...maybe he(Torts)or Borek are eyeing the day Umile packs it in...and they put there names in for that gig...might be awhile...figure if there's ever a opening @ Maine that there will be no shortage of names bandied about....................

If the Bears go winless at the Alfond this year (admittedly a long shot, but not as long a shot as at the beginning of the season) AD Abbott should offer every season ticket holder a 50% refund.
That might make some otherwise meaningless games REALLY interesting. What do ya say Steve? Ready to go all-in with Timmay?

Not that I'm saying Tim Whitehead is Jerry York or anything, but I think your premise is flawed.

So Shawn overstayed his welcome in Orono then? He was the coach for 17 years...

Nope, his logic is flawless. Jerry, Jack and Whistling Dick have to go! :D
