This is a Bad Team with a Bad Coach...you can see it on the ice,no sugar coating it...I don't like saying it but be "real" and just watch them play and watch how there Coached...we are fooling ourseleves if you think they'll rip off a 10-12 game unbeaten streak or UPSET the BC's or UML's this season. It is time for change at the end of the season...you and I can see it,BUT does the A.D. DARE do it..?

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

I'll say it again because a few Timmy apologists have reappeared. There is a huge lack of talent on this team. That is the coaching staff's responsibility. Bring in hard working, talented hockey players who will go to class and be decent members of the community. Coaching staff has brought in far fewer than needed talented hockey players.

I'm sick of people defending any of the blue liners. There is zero skill back there with exception of Hutton. Nemec is big, but turnover prone and loses key battles along boards because he doesn't use body to best of ability. Pryor whiffs on shots on PP, turns puck over.

Sullivan is a. 890-900 guy in net. Not good enough. I want to see more of Morris.

Too many undersized forwards with not enough skill and speed to make up for it. Diamond, Shore, Anthoine, Merchant, Lomberg, Beatie are good, but not great college players. I see potential in Shore, but he's a young freshman. Diamond is trying to do too much without Abbott and Flynn.

St. Lawrence had a guy on weak side all alone too many times to count. Puck carrier and two others would carry up right side while guy would sneak up left side and be all alone. Point Carvel (SLU coach). Timmy out coached once again.

Would love to see your talent level..................Zoomba !

Never said I was as talented as any of the players. I played high school hockey and did not have the talent to play Division I hockey, but I'm not angry at the players. My beef is with Whitehead for not recruiting better Hockey East caliber student athletes. As long as Maine asks paying customers and donors to pony up $20+ to go to a college hockey game, I feel people have the right to voice their displeasure. If the players and coaches want to play and coach without getting criticized, there is Division III. I was a student athlete at the Division II level in a spring sport that was free to attend. I never was criticized on the internet for not playing better, but didn't have the perks that come with playing big time college hockey. You can't have it both ways.

P.s. I know some of the non revenue players at UMaine would trade having to deal with criticism for getting more perks like the hockey team.

Irish To which perks are your refering? Early registration to be sure, financial support for academic and room and board for most..free gear...7 month season. leave Thursday, miss classes, have to make them up; get home @ 05:00 Sunday AM, and practice on monday afternoon....Travelling back to Orono on Christmas day so they can practice and travel again....There is fan support and the players do feel a respionsibility to perform fopr the school, classmates and even the state....just not sure what perks the other non revenue athletes don't get....Field Hockety and Soccer...almost done for year already,,,scholly same value.... which perks do they not get???

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Look, I only am a football and hockey fan, but if you think the softball and cross country players get all the same things as hockey, you're kidding yourself. I think hockey deserves it because they bring in revenue unlike the other sports. These are big boys. They can take heat. Look at ND football forums. They are 7-0 yet people are criticizing Mike Golic (offensive lineman) and Brian Kelly (coach). It happens all across big time college sports. Minnesota and North Dakota fans criticize their players and coaches. Gophers fans hated Adam Hauser. Remember him? He won a NC in St. Paul.

One last thing, I'm not saying it is bad hockey gets more benefits, but they do just like ND football gets more and Kentucky hoops gets more.

If the administration and program doesn't want the coaching staff and team to be criticized, don't ask people to pay $50 between blue lines and $20 everywhere else. Don't ask people to pay a $6 order processing fee for tickets sales in advance.

Let it be free admission like it is for women's hockey or baseball.

Flynn, Abbott, Nyquist, House, O'Neill, Mangene, Diamond are some of few players in recent years that would have contributed to the Walsh era teams. There might be a few others, but the talent isn't there and the coaching staff sure isn't.

I was at the game Friday, but couldn't make it up for Saturday's game. Probably for the best, but from what I saw on TV Maine looked defeated (the season isn't even a month old yet!)...

My weekly column is up for those that don't follow me on Twitter. It's found here.

You pretty much summed it up by "Maine looked Defeated"....no other the way to say it, that phrase caught it all...for the Team & Coach.

Timmay!!!!!!

edit: Jeez, this friggin' forum, won't even let you use all caps.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

I would say it is since Bishop left the goaltending has been bad. I think you were a little harsh on Sullivan in your other post, goaltending is to a large degree a product of the skaters, but it definitely does have to at least be more consistent. For me, the timing is absolutely perfect to replace Timmy with Jimmy.

gosh... and who was Bishop's goalie coach?
Kerluke? Alexander?
is the answer Jesus?
cause, we got a lot a losses

So aside from the rhetoric, what perks do the Hockey players get that the others don't....aside from having to deal with fans, good and bad commentary, that the track team doesn't? And the great hoary " Grade massage" that KIA brings up is a chimera from the Shawn days.....

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

You are either very naive or trying to defend the team. There is no reason to defend the team regarding this issue. Maine hockey players get more perks, are more noticed around campus, Orono, etc...It's the same as at every other school that only has one major sport. The hockey players at BU, North Dakota, Duluth, Merrimack, Lowell, UNH all have much bigger perks than any other athlete on their campus

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

It's not that we disagree, per se, but the more you avoid answering a direct question with some examples, the more it looks like you're talking out your bum.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

You want examples...It's plain as day. Go to Pats, the Roost, or the shut down night club and watch how hockey players get served/treated compared to the regular UMaine students. Look at all the extra clothes the hockey team gets compared to the cross country team. The hockey team gets all the gear needed for playing, but multiple gym shorts and lots of UMaine hockey tshirts, etc. The other teams get half the amount of clothing. Do you think there are multiple media outlets and blog reporters waiting to interview players after cross country meets or after soccer games? There might be one from the BDN and that's about it, if it's a big conference game at home. BDN has a writer at every game, home and away. Press Herald out of Portland did too until last year. There are several bloggers that make a lot of road games and every home game. I'm a huge fan of the UMaine hockey team. I could care less how the other teams at the school do (sorry if that offends anyone). Ask some of the other student-athletes if they're treated the same way as the hockey team. They'll say no. Want me to keep going? Do you think there are tons of kids, groupies, puck bunnies, etc waiting for autographs, pictures, etc at other UMaine games? Nope.

not that I know what a chimera is, but you are guessing.. promise
