Not even November yet and we have to seriously wonder if this team will get to double-digit wins this year.

I know Maine fans are in crisis mode right now (as we should). But Providence played Miami tough last week...if that counts for something (which it doesn't)

Maine fans are probably more in apathy-mode than they are in crisis-mode, actually...

Tim has had his own recruits, coaches and "systems" for eight years or so, and his results are becoming as predictable as the sun rising in the East: one barely passable year followed by two or three embarrassing ones.

I don't think that the program is beyond resurrection at this moment, but a last-place finish in HE might do the trick, and I see that coming, depending on how bad Vermont is this year.

Tim needed to go a few years back, and Blake should somehow be accountable for extending him without any reason to do so... These professorial types get free rein with public money, and that's just a special case of embezzlement, IMO. It should be considered a crime against the tax-payers, a la Welfare fraud... There is really no fundamental difference between the two, aside from the huge disparity of money involved.

Bottom Line is: Whitehead needs to be removed after the Season,no if's/ands/or buts about it.

Penn State 5 Army 0 last night. That's first year Penn State, who lost to a D3, beating the team Maine beat for its only win by one goal. And Penn State did it at West Point!

But there have been tons of injuries and Flynn and Abbott left. Just read the BDN this week. There will be another excuse piece by Larry. I'm getting so sick of it.

Unreal freakin' real

You're right, neither of those things happened. I actually feel better about the team after last night, they're young and its going to take a bit of time. This isn't an endorsement of Timmy, I still think he should go, but we do have some talent in the frosh/soph classes.

They did happen, but it happens everywhere. Back when Shawn was here Maine reloaded and had enough depth to still be OK after players leaving early and graduating and injuries.

My no more than 7 wins prediction is looking good. At this point I might take the under.

Back in those days teams used to concede 13 or 14 goals in a game too. Times are completely different. I'm not saying Timmy is a great coach, he's not on the same planet as Shawn, but folks need to understand that a lot of this is systemic and has nothing to do with who the coach is.

Other teams have adjusted. I know the excuse is college hockey is different. The smaller schools aren't as successful. I hear that excuse. People say look at LSSU, Michigan Tech, etc...I say look at the success DU has had, making NCAAs every year basically, producing lots of NHL players. North Dakota is a small school even and they've had success. Duluth won a national championship. A D2 school! Ferris State and Union played in a national semifinal last year.

Maine needs a new coach who can recruit good, overlooked Canadian players and win hockey games with good, decent young men. This team has great kids who do well academically and Tim should be applauded for that. However, winning with class and good students is not mutually exclusive. I hate BC's football and basketball program and the arrogance of many of their fans, but Jerry York has won with great student-athletes. It can be done.

You completely missed the point of my post. It wasn't that smaller schools can't be successful, it was that there is much more parity now than there was 10 or 15 years ago. Programs like Merrimack, UML, and UMA are way ahead of where they used to be. They're not going to be great every year but you're certainly not going to see the top teams putting 10+ goals by them. It's the same with all of the other conferences I'm sure.

I actually really like what Maine has done recruiting wise the last few years. They have got a decent mix of kids and I think for long term success you need the right culture which they've developed. In today's world I'm not sure how many kids get overlooked. I'm sure there are examples but I don't think you can bank on finding enough talented kids with it.
