Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

11 teams....what schedule are you looking at? UND, BC, UNH, and MC are the only teams I see on the schedule that were in the NCAA this past season.

11 games, not 11 teams. Just out of curiosity, with 27 league games and only 7 NC games, exactly how many NCAA tournament opponents are they supposed to schedule? Let's see, UHN is playing Union and....um...well, no one who made the NCAA tunamelt. The Wildcats have a much stronger schedule than Maine, with a whopping seven games against 2011 tournament teams. BU plays the same 3 conference foes that made the tournament, plus a game with Denver and @Notre Dame. 11 games. Just like Maine. Out west, Miami plays Michigan (4 games) and Western and Notre Dame (twice apiece) plus a NC game vs Denver. 9 games. The NC schedule includes powerhouses Princeton, Providence, Colgate and Bemidji.

Once again people are just looking for a reason to complain.

My mistake.:o I meant to say 11 games against teams that made the NCAA tournament this past season.

I'm quite sure I was making a point that Maine was playing 4 tourney teams not 11 I wouldn't consider that a complaint just a fact. If I was looking for a reason to complain it wouldn't be hard to find and it wouldn't be about the schedule.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

The defense will always be a question mark until the coaches decide to have them play a different style. This back up, back up, back up, poke check, stick whiff, don't hit anybody stuff just isn't cutting it.
Unfortunately your right, like I said I am hoping for a surprise, but if they're not allowed to be physical then this group has not alot to offer, they won't dazzle anyone with their puck handling or scoring, but if allowed to be physical they could be lunch pail group, not elite but a solid group.

UNH's schedule is a joke next year, not only because of the weak non-con schedule, but the fact that we have only 3 home and home weekends and zero back to back games against the Boston schools is pathetic. Part of what made Hockey East great for the teams that don't have to travel wicked far for all of their road games (you guys and UVM) was the home and home, and they're getting rid of some of the best serieses and its a joke.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

If the downward trend of Maine hockey was only a year or 2 old I could see being somewhat optimistic. But after 4 years of downhill spiral its hard to make a case for an upward trend at this point. On paper the D is worse, The O is worse, the only thing I see as getting better is the Goalies but even that isn't written stone looking at goalie performance over the last 4 years.

Other teams are going to be worse too. I have a hard time seeing either UNH or Merrimack being better than Maine next year. BC and BU might be but I don't see them being better by very much if at all. If the players are fully committed and Maine gets a bit of luck it could be a really good season.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Was Danny Kerluke coaching the defense back then? Or was that someone else.

Gotta get a kick out of it: a forward, not known for his defensive abilities, is in charge of coaching the defensemen for this team. Only in TIMMAYland.

you will get no argument from me (nor does Timmy from Danny)
the broken record says...
my favorite quote regarding Tim's coaching stint at Maine was made by the guy who WAS coaching D back then... " I don't care what coach [Whitehead] says, I want you hitting out there"
and he was shipped to Alaska for his insubordination.
my least favorite, is seeing all of the pi5s and vinegar sucked right out of Corkum in only one semester.... Corkum USED TO coach on the bench, telling the boys what they did right and wrong when they came off the ice.... but "we don't coach that way at Maine"
It is getting easier to grow away from the program (and I have a lot more of my own money in my bank account, not giving to the university... not till they get rid of him... and I have told them that every time they call or write)

lunch pail groups play with heart.

apples and oranges.
don't compare Maine's schedule to Miami's
compare maine's schedule to other Maine schedules.... Jesus, Becker College has a weaker schedule, how come you didn't pick them for your comparison?

Looks like they'll lose a good chunk of seats (200-300), even though the sections will be wider. Most of the seats lost are bleachers. Maybe they'll add some standing room areas since the concourses are wider and there's more handicap places.

It will be awesome. Can't wait until the first game

See: the Boston Bruins defensive corps. And see the effect beating on people has late in games.

maybe it's just me, but I see a lot of value in taking kids aside when they come off a shift, and pointing out the things they did right, or the things they did wrong, and how they might want to try doing it like this the next time they're in the same situation. That way it's corrected right then, and might have some effect on the outcome of the game as it goes on. Every good hockey coach I've ever seen is always doing this with his players.

If you wait til you get to practice on Monday, it's too late, the teaching moment's gone, and the play isn't fresh in anyone's mind by then, so the proper corrections might not even get made.

But then, I'm not TIMMAY, I guess I just don't understand.

The thing that Timmy doesn't get is that these boys have grown up having the coaches tell them after every shift, good, bad, horrible, fantastic.... and they have grown up learning from coaches who yell and show emotion.

he is NEVER going to get good results doing things differently than what his players are used to.

it is good that he got rid of grant-dead-weight-standbrook... he had nothing more to offer and was clearly washed up (god I am close to crying as I type this BS)

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

AND that is what I meant...passion/grit and no fanfare, just a solid group working for the TEAM cause...WIN's

yeah right...
the Raiders had Commitment to Excellence and Just Win Baby
Shawn had Road Warriors and ... what was the other one? Excellence, Determination and something...
Tim has "Show Heart, Get Benched"

There will be no standing room.......they are widening those areas due to ADA (wheelchair access and seating). Why would they muck it up with standing room and make the situation that they rectified even worse? Also........where do you see them losing 200-300 seats??? That's A LOT of lost revenue if that were the case. I think that it will net out due to less aisles.......each aisle eliminated adds 2 seats per row. Looks like they are eliminated 8 aisles (4 on each side?) which would add 128 seats. Then if you subtract what they are losing due to wider concourses for ADA.......it's probably about a wash.

Do simple math. The plans called for 2266 lower bowl seats. 912 upper west seats, 848 upper east seats, 786 balcony, 19 skyboxes x 12 seats each = 228.

2266 + 912 + 848 + 786 + 228 = 5040

5445 - 5040 = 405 seats lost

Wider seats and unnecessary ADA areas causes them to lose seats. They got rid of 4 aisles on the sides but add two on the north end. It just seems like a bad and awkward design. Of course, these designs are from a couple of months ago, so things may have changed. You could also add chairs in the unused handicapped areas. There's also plenty of room between the upper seats and lower bowl for people to stand. Spending $4 mil on losing 400 seats makes no sense.

No, it doesn't.......and I doubt that is the case. This is one time where "simple math" might actually NOT explain it all. ;)

I was wondering about the ADA areas........has there been increased demand for wheel chair accessible seating areas........or is this just another government directive being rammed down their throats???

Probably the second one, but where they cut seats out for wheel chairs they can do so by cutting out one row instead of two. That'll save some seats. They also cut out seats in from of present ADA seats (lower level south end).

I've got a even better idea, let's blame Blake James for adding more skyboxes in '06. :)
