Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Larry is speculating that the door is still open for one of the UNH games to be at Fenway. UNH is at the Alfond for the final two games of the regular season. Frankly, I can't see Maine giving up home ice to play a game at Fenway.

I'll betcha it would imprve their home winning percentage if they played that game at Fenway.

bash, bash I yahooingly bash

and how do ya schedule Clarkson twice? a month apart?
was AIC booked?

Actually, AIC does have a full schedule this year.

Can't remember if you guys have an alumni page or not, but congratulations to Jimmy for his new bundle of joy, Colin Donald Montgomery! This was reported on the Dubuque Fighting Saints facebook page.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Despite all the pooh-poohing about the schedule, an exact replica of last season's results with this year's schedule (replacing the MSU series with 2 at NoDak, the NoDak series with UAH etc) would put Maine 11th in the Pairwise heading into the Hockey East tournament.

Even a sweep at the hands of a TUC in the first round (BC, UHN, BU, MC or NE) puts them in 13th. Manage to see the slightest improvement in net and they could easily be a 2 seed.

Oh wait, that would require optimism, which has been outlawed in this thread. My mistake.

Back to the regularly scheduled bitchfest.

Oh, and sandie, take your *yawn* and shove it up your ass. :)

Edit: Because someone asked and I'm just bored enough to do it: UHN finishes #9, BU #16 and Northeastern unranked (#36 in RPI). BC and MC have not released their official schedules yet.

And if wishes were horses, we'd all ride.

Love this fantasy schedule you've put together for next season, assuming everyone else will be ranked just as they were this past season, and all results end up exactly the same `in every league.

But as we saw from this past season, all that matters is what happens on the ice, and TIMMAY hasn't shown he can get the results there. How'd he do last year, with a veteran defense and a Hobey Baker candidate? And knowing that last year was gonna be "the year" for Black Bear hockey?

But keep playing the games out on paper. I think that's where TIMMAY plays them too.

The point is that the schedule isn't as terrible as everyone is making it out to be. The non-conference schedule in 1999 included powerhouses UNO (11-24), Dartmouth (10-17-2), Colgate (19-12-4), Yale (13-14-4) and Union (3-26-3) to go along with Denver and CC. People are looking for another reason to complain and the schedule is the latest target.

If the downward trend of Maine hockey was only a year or 2 old I could see being somewhat optimistic. But after 4 years of downhill spiral its hard to make a case for an upward trend at this point. On paper the D is worse, The O is worse, the only thing I see as getting better is the Goalies but even that isn't written stone looking at goalie performance over the last 4 years.

Just to provide more info, Maine's schedule includes 11 teams that were in the NCAA tournament this past year. Rachael Lenzi reporting that Martin Ouellette is on the Columbus Blue Jacket Development team roster. Scheduled Aug.3 - 7, in Edmonton.

I think Martin has tremendous upside, I can see him being really good if he gets the coaching he needs.

Paper is all we got until they play the games

do me a favor, run the numbers if Maine had Paul Kariya, Scott Pellerin, both in their primes and Barry Clukey red shirting ( we all know waht happens EVERY YEAR Clukey red shirts)... and if Clemmenson were in net for BC... give Maine an extra 31 hit points, 164 stamina and 32 constitution, and allow BOTH Maine goalies to use the Claymore of infinite invincibility... oh, and see if you can't get the heart from the cowardly lion and give it to Tim... what more... they ALWAYS have to play against Muggles...

THEN how does Maine stack up?

I think your right he has alot of upside,my only concern is his focus during the game and for a full 60 minutes...maybe he learned from last season, lets hope so...Sullivan can be right in there as a push for Ouellette to stay focus...if both can improve this could very well be a tandem that can make Maine a tough team to play...I agree the Offense maybe down and I think the D could surprise...not Elite type but Blue Collar and keeping it simple in there own end.

The defense will always be a question mark until the coaches decide to have them play a different style. This back up, back up, back up, poke check, stick whiff, don't hit anybody stuff just isn't cutting it.

but what about all those frozen fours?

and did you notice that the kid who hit hard this past season was up in the stands most of the time?

Was Danny Kerluke coaching the defense back then? Or was that someone else.

Gotta get a kick out of it: a forward, not known for his defensive abilities, is in charge of coaching the defensemen for this team. Only in TIMMAYland.

11 teams....what schedule are you looking at? UND, BC, UNH, and MC are the only teams I see on the schedule that were in the NCAA this past season.
