Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

the administration had nixed the program HOW many years (months) ago?
I can see lowell going by the wayside... there is not money in Mass for everything that everyone wants.
If the ticket sales at the Tsongas could support a team, then MAYBE...
be the Devils left after averaging about 15 paid tickets per game
The Lock Monsters, ditto. and with Blais MacDonald giving about 1000 ticket per game to Lowell middleschoolers, and with PatMan living in DC, the paid attendance currently includes me, when Maine is not in town, Scott, mary and the trainer's wife (oh, wait, she probably gets comps).
I can see lowell losing D1 hockey.

Agreed.

I was referring to the UML administration. Chancellor Meehan is very supportive of the program. The issues that the UMass administration had a few years ago have been addressed. Thanks for supporting the program by going to the games. It's hard to believe over 4,000 people get in free every game. :)

More investment in the Tsongas/hockey program coming. From the UML thread:
I have been told that the first home game will be late in October. Big changes coming this summer to the Tsongas. A new refrigeration system is going to be installed. That construction is expected to begin mid-June and will take all summer into the fall. In addition, all the dasher boards are expected to be replaced and the arena will be getting seamless glass. There will also be new netting in the end zones.

I am pretty sure you would be very surprised at how many comps are handed out at the middle schools, the youth hockey programs, the boys and girls clubs and places like that.
I do not know the figures, but I know that MANY tickets are handed out for free as a community service and certainly to boost sales of concessions.... but if you look in the end zone nearest the front entrance, you tell me how many 12 year old hispanic or cambodian girls you see, and then take a gues at how many of them paid for their tickets
I absolutely do not have a problem with the whole concept (hel1 it would be smart for everyone to fill their arenas with cheap or free tickets to enhance the atmosphere AND sell concessions), but if so few people are paying and if Scott and mary already bought their game worn jerseys at auction, there is not a heck of a lot more money rolling in.

last... when was the last game that had 4000 butts in seats at the Tsongas? Jingle Ball does not count.

Well you can check out the box score on the HE site for the last home game against PC, but I'm sure you'll tell me how it's way over stated.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

UConn should use some of that BCS $$$ and build an actual rink and respectable hockey program.

I hate to break the bad news to you but Uconn lost $1.8M going to the Fiesta Bowl.

In other news, KIA is on an absolute roll right now.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

CBS College Sports had a 2010-2011 college hockey marathon last night. The theme was "fantastic finishes." Maine figured prominently. I don't need to explain it further. :(

I don't know what to tell you... i have been to maybe a hundred lowell games... and while the last lowell PC game I saw had PC in their chrome helmets (I WILL NEVER FORGET)... I cannot think of a time that that place was even a 10th full.... and I do not think it seats 40,000

sections look pretty full from a distance when they are only 1/5 full... lowell does not allow anyone in a lot of upper sections... i am not trying to argue to tell you that I know it all ... I am saying that the place is very empty.... granted it draws better than Bentley and Tufts... but that is saying NOTHING

40,000

You asked when was the last time they had 4,000 people for a game. It was the final home game last season against PC, 4,932. Lowell averaged 4,163 /game this past season, they averaged 4,664 / game the year before.

I think you've been away to long. The attendance was one of the few bright spots during a very long and frustrating season.

Bentley and Tufts

Any word on when the schedule will be released?

More interesting stuff from Rachel Lenzi regarding Notre Dame hockey and their future plans.............

http://www.pressherald.com/blogs/lenzi/123670449.html

The most interesting info. from their AD is this........In addition to considering the impact on the nation’s Division I programs, Swarbrick brought up three points of consideration when evaluating a conference move: Maximizing television exposure, finding a cultural fit for the program and for the school and mechanical issues such as travel and scheduling.

Those 3 things favor admission to Hockey East. There won't be any bus trips for Notre Dame in Hockey East or the WCHA, but the flights and trips from the airports to the arenas will be much easier in HE........in addition, there's no doubt that television coverage and "cultural fit" favor Hockey East as well. Stay tuned.........

Not sure; I know I'm looking for it as much as you. I think there's still some indecision on that third UNH game, whether it will be at Fenway or at one of the school's locations. I have all of your non-conference information, just 13 league games to go, plus an exhibition (if you happen to play one).

Anyone seen season tickets apps yet?
