LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

The Lakers did not have the same intensity as they did friday but the reffing was not questionable at all it was just plain terrible. macinsuck should not be allowed to go any where near a rink let alone ref a game. You have to wonder if they are auditioning for the big 6 jobs next year.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Nice to see 3,747 show up, the biggest since March 2000. Nice to Ciotti off to a great start, as well as Sternberg. Murdock played well, but can he handle the #1 goalie job if Kapalka is out *gulp* for the season? I wasn't worried when Mahoney-Wilson went down two years ago, but this year might be different if K2 is KO'ed. Let's hope Kevin gets good results on his shoulder.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

So the week before last Roque says Ravn played really well in relief of Kapalka in the 2nd Tech game, he's been working hard, and that he deserves to be the backup goalie to Kapalka. But after Kapalka got hurt on Friday night, Roque immediately puts Murdock into the game instead of Ravn.

I will start by saying the obvious that I hope KK comes back immediately and the shoulder is fine. I will now go to the worst case scenario and envision that KK is out for the year, this will truly be a litmus test on Roque putting his assumed issues (whatever they may be) aside concerning Ravn.

Murdock did a bang up job as a back up last year, sporting a .940 save percentage and a 1.78 GAA in the 5 games in which he played, however I doubt he will be able (or should be given the opportunity ) to play every game this season. I don't mean that as a slight, playing a whole season as a D1 goalie is grueling and just because KK has been up to the task ( until now) doesn't mean it should be the standard practice. This is Ravn's third year here, he should know what to expect and with the sparkling stats he produced coming out of juniors it behooves Roque at this point to see what he's got. There would never be a good time to see your number 1 goaltender go out with an injury but with a weak Alaska team on the schedule this weekend and a weaker UAH team coming up in 3 weeks, this is the perfect opportunity for Roque to give Ravn a shot in at least 2 of the next 6 games, to see how he does and adjust accordingly our goaltender situation going forward, ideally Ravn would play well and we would be able to go forward feeling comfortable being able to play either guy in less than "emergency" situations

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

It's a shame with a huge attendance that this Laker team cannot put together two good nights as was the case last season.

Alaska has already beat Merrimack and North Dakota at home, and Ferris on the road. One win in Alaska this weekend would be a successful trip.

I was thinking the same thing that a split would be nice up there. With it being Kapalka's other shoulder it's hard saying how long he may be out hopefully we will hear a favorable update on him tomorrow on the Hockey Show.

I know I comented earlier about the recruiting but I have to mention again this freshman class is looking real good. Good job with recruiting from the coaches.

Today with the sting of the inept ccha reffing fading a little I think about the league trying to go out with the silly embrace the legacy campaign. To me this weekend was a perfect example off the ccha legacy. Ticky tack calls against us along with legit ones then I watch a ref watch a blatant infraction by the opposition that goes uncalled. Bruny getting singled out for a 5 minute major for grasping the mask when all that other nonsense was going on as well. That is what I will always think of being the legacy of that inept league.

But of course the 3 National Championships were nice as well. I am looking forward to embrace the nWCHA and playing on a level playing field.

Excellent example of the CCHA legacy. I agree. As everybody knows, I am couinting the days until this broken, corrupt crappy league dies a long-over-due death.

In other thoughts, great corwds both nights. Lots of fun. Good to see so many people so excited about the Lakers. Wish we could've pulled off a sweep. Oh well. The young players are looking very good. So much more energy in a shift by shift basis. The students did a nice job this weekend, too.

It's Ravn.
Do you know him ?

How many riskless opportunities has there been to check that ?

Sounds like he never meant what he was saying ! Could it be that he was just cautious awaiting Murdock's credits to be recomputed.

The answer was in Roque's speech on Friday.

Lots of inconsistencies there. Ravn gets shuffled around a lot and it must be pretty tough on the kid.

I agree but to play devils advocate for roque's behalf, he was a third stringer last season and the lakers couldn't afford to potentially "give away" any games for experimentation sake as they were on the NCAA bubble much of last season.....but even if you give that reason the benefit of the doubt there is still no explanation for the previous season when he and KK came in battling for the backup job and then KK was thrust into action with BMW's injury....granted he did a great job but conventional wisdom would have you playing Ravn at least a few games to see what you had....I mean god forbid what would have happened had KK been injured later on in that season? How stupid would we have looked if we were a majority of the way into the season and had to play a goalie with no game experience when he had been a backup for virtually the whole season?

Better play ball up at that little college of yours!!!!!

Your kid couldn't even make it at that "little college".

However, to give credit where credit is due, I heard we was drafted sixteenth overall for the street hockey league he is in.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Why is it that following a perfectly exciting and fun weekend of hockey in the Soo, we LSSU fans, students, and alumni are bombarded by the same two elements every Sunday and Monday morning on this USCHO board? Why must we endure Mr. Sellers and his three or four alternate personalities? And why must we endure the ranting of Ravn's girlfriend, and associated hand-wringing that goes therewith? I like to pick on the mentally weak as much as the next guy -- probably moreso. But isn't there a way to allow us to enjoy the Laker season, at least without the Truth rube spilling his considerable hate and bile and stupidity on a daily basis?

If we all put them on ignore and then no one quotes them we wont see it. The only time I see any posts from them is when other people are quoting them. Most of the time its the only way I even knew they posted since the truths tend to delete most of their postings shortly after posting.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

So it is the refs fault now??? You people up there never run out of excuses for another disappointing result. Of course you have written the book on it for the past 8 seasons in defense of this coach. Maybe now is the time to give Raven a chance, if he ever gets out of this coaches doghouse, and you people stop the vitriol spewed on here on him.

If you hate everything about the persons here and the coach, why do you even bother to come on this board. Your comments are neither insightful or entertaining. If you have such a problem with the coach, why not give him a call or send him an email? I doubt he'll get your message by reading these boards. You insult these fans on a regular basis. You insult all Yoopers on a regular basis. Is your life such a mission of misery, why don't you make an effort to go out a find your "Happy Place."

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Observations from this weekend:

1)Lakers skated hard all weekend. Despite the ridiculous penalties on Saturday, they hanged in there and made a game of it.
2)Stephen McInchak and Michael Poliski should be unemployed next year. McInchak's actions speak for themselves. The guy just doesn't have his head in the game. Worst head referee I have ever seen. Poliski was standing right in front of me and watched Jake Chelios suckerpunch Matt Bruneteau; Chelios gets a minor for roughing, Matt gets a major. Despicable.
3)Ravn is getting screwed. No other way to put it. I hate to agree with Truthy, but Murdoch's eligibility was re-instated Saturday morning and he got in a quick practice before the start Saturday night. Ravn has been ready to go all season and the TEAM deserved a well-prepared goalie to start that game. I'm sure everyone thinks highly of both Murdoch and Ravn, but shame on you Jim Roque. Murdoch gave it his all, but he should have never been put in that difficult position from the start. Ravn, no matter the "skill level difference" should have been in net Saturday.
4)Lakers PP. When the Lakers shoot the puck on the PP, they could be one of the best PP teams in the Country. When they don't, it's ugly. So far, it's a mixed bag.
You may want to do a little fact checking. That quick practice Saturday morning was far from Murdock's first skate of the year.
